ISSUE21 Features Events Clubs&Rinks Feb 2014 Your Curler The Royal Caledonian Curling Club Member Ezine Silver and Bronze for Great Britain in the Winter Olympics, Sochi 2014 Great Britain’s Men’s and Women’s Curling Teams both took medals in this year’s Sochi Games which was to be Great Britain’s most successful Winter Olympics to date. Great Britain’s Men’s Team, David Murdoch, Greg Drummond, Michael Goodfellow, Scott Andrews and Tom Brewster, claimed Olympic Silver in the final of the Men’s Curling event with Canada going on to take the gold. The Great Britain Women’s Team, Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams, Claire Hamilton and Lauren Gray, secured a Bronze medal after beating Switzerland 6-5 in the Women’s Bronze Medal Game. Story continued on page 2 Barr and MacDonald are 2014 Scottish Curling Champions Team Kerry Barr secured their first Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish Curling Women’s Championship title at Dewars Centre, Perth on Sunday 16th February in an enthralling battle against last year’s finalists Team Hannah Fleming. In the men’s event it was Ewan MacDonald who made his return to the podium for the seventh time as he lead his men to victory in a final that went all the way against David Edwards’ Team. Barr’s Murrayfield rink of Barbara McPake, Rhiann Macleod and Rachael Simms will now go on to represent Scotland at the World Women’s Championship in Saint John, Canada from 15-23 March while Ewan MacDonald, Euan Byers, David Reid and Duncan Fernie head to Beijing, China for the World Men’s Championship from 29 March to 6 April. -

Meet AAKP’s Ambassadors! Updated 12.09.19 ALABAMA Katina Lang-Lindsey Katina, a Social Work Professor at Alabama State University, has lived with kidney disease for over 11 years. She received her kidney transplant in April 2007 from a deceased donor where she began to get involved in patient engagement through the local Kidney Foundation. Katina gained her passion for patient engagement when she returned to her full-time job as a social worker and began to work with peer educators in a research project at a hospital in Mississippi. In this position, she learned a lot about patients’ experiences on dialysis including her own personal experience. Katina became involved with Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) by participating in recipient commercials. She serves as a patient representative with Network 8 for Mississippi, Alabama & Tennessee. In her role as patient representative, Katina has served on the Medical Review Board and a couple of patient committees such as PAC & LAN with Network 8. Lastly, she serves as a representative on the Kidney Patient Advisory Council (KPAC) and co-investigator on the PREPARE NOW kidney study as a patient representative funded through PCORI. Canna Caldwell Biography coming soon! Jerald Collens Jerald was diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy while emigrating to the United States from Canada in 1998. IGA Nephropathy is a condition that has symptomatic treatments but no known cure. Jerald’s Nephrologist has said that Jerald was his miracle IGA patient having gone over 20 years without requiring dialysis or a transplant. -
Writing to Your Donor Family Is a Special Experience
Transplant Chronicles Volume 5 A publication for transplant recipients of all organs and their families, Number 1 published by the National Kidney Foundation, Inc. When we walked inside the Writing to Your Donor Family Shrivers’ lovely home, we were greeted by a room full of Doug’s Is a Special Experience family members. It was wonderful to meet his 12-year- by Faith Taylor old daughter, Jodi. We all sat together and enjoyed watching family videos of Doug working with his father on the farm and helping Jodi find eggs during the family’s Easter egg hunt. My mother and I enjoyed hearing about the many practical jokes Doug loved to pull on his mother. I felt proud to know that my donor was such a handsome, strong and witty young man who cared about others and was such a great help to his father.
