Initial testing of the system already in the mid 1990’s. ● In 2008 a new reform was introduced within Swedish primary health care. The tax paid health care system is controlled by twenty-one local County Councils and reimbursement system for Primary Care has traditionally been per capita model based on age and gender. ● With the introduction of the freedom of choice model there was a need for better risk adjusted allocation models. All county councils in Sweden have to establish a system where resources follow the individual patient. ● Today sixteen of the County Councils use the ACG system. On a monthly basis the ACG co-morbidity risk score is calculated for each provider. Approximately eighty percent of the inhabitants in Sweden (10 Mill 2017) is now covered by the system. 3 Financing system PHC in Sweden County Council Tax County Council PHC financing system Freedom of choice model.

Over the past 40 years, Karlstad´s share is unchanged. The increase in figures depends to more than 50% of influx from the other 15 municipalities in Värmland. Almost 50% are retired. When it comes to regional GDP, Värmland was number 13 of 24 counties in 1860. Today, the position is 22. Nor- dregio's Regional Potential Index expresses the economic prospects of regions. Värmland is ranked 58 of 74 Nordic regions. In Sweden, only Gävleborg region has a lower position. In global terms, regarding the effects of the digital revolution on future employment, we can expect a decline in man- ufacturing, retail trade and transport on roads. At the same time, we see a very strong increase of the employment in the information technology sector and other high-tech industries.

  • Working for the Man a Cross-Sectional Study of Single Industry Towns’ Effect on Entrepreneurship
STOCKHOLM SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS Department of Economics Bachelor´s Thesis – Course 659 Spring 2013 Working for the Man A cross-sectional study of single industry towns’ effect on entrepreneurship Malin Adeborgф and Martin Siltbergψ Abstract Over the last decades, the once prominent single industry towns have gained an unfortunate status as myopic and conformist communities with an adverse entrepreneurial climate. Although the rich history and the economic transitions of single industry towns are well documented in research, limited effort has been made to empirically establish the towns’ assumed negative relationship with entrepreneurship. Building upon this notion, we use econometric methods to investigate if this perception is applicable to single industry towns in modern Sweden. By using data on a municipal level, we find a significant and negative relationship between single industry towns and entrepreneurship. The results are supported through an instrumental variable approach. Even though the risk of omitted variables prevents us from inferring a causal relationship, we conclude that single industry towns have a systematic and negative relationship with entrepreneurship. Key words: Single industry towns, entrepreneurship, regional growth, geographical economics JEL codes: R11, L11, L26, O14 Tutor: Erik Meyersson Examiner: Yoichi Sugita Discussants: Linn Sjöblom and Katarina Sandberg Presentation: June 7, 2013 ф [email protected] ψ [email protected] 1 Acknowledgment We would like to thank out tutor Erik Meyersson, at the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics, for valuable support. We also thank Örjan Sjöberg, Professor at the Department of Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics, for inspiration and guidance.
