Each year we have been able to give more than 1,000 student athletes and coaches a well deserved pat on the back and extra encouragement to help them become better citizens. Tonight at our Hall of Fame event we honor some of the most outstanding athletes from this area. The impact these athletes had on our community and their teammates helped create a tradition of excellence in our small community. Each of tonight’s honorees was recognized during their playing days by the SBART and we are grateful to provide them our highest honor this evening. The 2017-18 athletic year was one for the record books. If you have attended any of our Monday Press Luncheons at Harry’s, you know that our high school and college student-athletes and coaches have been celebrating great successes both on and off the field. We honor all of our teams and individuals who MESSAGE PRESIDENT’S made it to the playoffs and beyond in addition to excelling in the classroom and community leadership. These luncheons also help showcase the incredible coaches which dedicate their time and energy to our youth. Last year our community was struck by tragic events with the Thomas Fire and the Montecito Mud Flow. These events helped showcase the strength of our community as many heroes emerged saving countless lives. Throughout the winter sports season, the community came together at Harry’s for our Monday Luncheons where we all realized how lucky we were to have sports in our lives. Our local sports programs provided a nice escape for those who may have been affected by the tragic events. Even though many of the winter sports seasons for our local high schools were dramatically shortened, the success our community achieved during the winter seasons was remarkable with five section championships (San Marcos Girls Water Polo, Santa Barbara High Boys Soccer, Carpinteria High School Boys Soccer, San Marcos Basketball, Dos Pueblos Boys Individual Wrestling). I am honored to have served the first year of a two-year appointment as the SBART Board President. I extend a very sincere “thank you” to all of our very generous sponsors and members. I would like to recognize specifically the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors and their Charity Golf Tournament. Last year the SBART was chosen as the tournament beneficiary. Thanks to the tireless work of the SBAOR Events Committee, chaired by Drew Wakefield, the tournament was a wild success. The funds from this Golf Tournament have enabled us to establish an annual scholarship in Phil Womble’s name. I extend a deep appreciation for all of the hard-working members of the SBART Board of Directors. The SBART has no paid staff; we are truly a “working board” with countless committee meetings, luncheons and long hours spent, coupled with the financial generosity of our sponsors and members, to keep the SBART mission moving forward. Last, but not least, a very hearty “thank you” to our local sports media for covering our luncheons, working together to honor our student-athletes with weekly and end-of-year awards and for publically sharing all of the great sports stories from our high schools and colleges each and every day. Growing up, I struggled with learning disabilities and I was able to achieve confidence and friendship through sports. Having sports to provide inspiration and motivation to attend college was vital in my life. When I first learned of the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table and their mission to help recognize and celebrate achievements on the field of play and in the classroom, I wanted to be involved. Thank you to all of you in attendance tonight for showing your support for our local student-athletes, coaches, community leaders, sports media and the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table. In Memoriam 2018 The Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table honors the life of long-time Board Member CHRIS CASEBEER 1946-2017 IN MEMORIAM Chris Casebeer was a man who was big, bold, and full of love. Breaking social norms everywhere he went, Chris could not pass up the chance to strike up a conversation and connect with people. He cultivated friendships with people near and far. He never held back sharing a big hug, genuine smile, or an invitation to visit his home. Chris lived with a sense of sharing abundance and possibility that is rare in this world; and all of us who knew and loved him are so much the better for it. A long-time SBART Board Member and Past-President, Chris was an active force for SBART membership, events and awards. The SBART Special Olympics Athlete of the Month Award has been named in honor of Chris.

    COACHING STAFF ADAM WRIGHT HEAD COACH • 1st Year Alma Mater: UCLA ’01 Adam Wright begins his first season as UCLA’s head men’s water polo coach in 2009. A former standout in the pool at UCLA and on the U.S. Olympic Team, Wright was named the fourth head coach in program history on June 3, 2009. A four-year letterwinner at UCLA (1997-2000), Wright led the Bruins to back-to- back NCAA titles in 1999 and 2000. Following his collegiate career, Wright served as a key member on the U.S. National Team, participating in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics for Team USA. He helped lead the U.S. to a seventh-place finish at the 2004 Olympics (Athens) and to the silver medal at the 2008 Olympics (Beijing). Wright served as an assistant coach with the UCLA men’s and women’s water polo teams during the 2008-09 school year. He helped guide the women’s program to an unprecedented fifth consecutive NCAA championship in May 2009. Following the 2008 men’s water polo season, Wright played an integral role in securing the top men’s recruiting class in the nation. In addition, Wright served as an assistant coach with the varsity boys and girls water polo programs at Wilson High School (Long Beach, Calif.) from 2001-04. He helped coach the boys program to four consecutive CIF Division I championships and Moore League titles. Wright coached the girls team to two Moore League titles and two CIF Division I quarterfinal playoff appearances. As a senior at UCLA in 2000, Wright scored 39 goals before earning honorable mention All-America acclaim and second-team All-MPSF honors.

The three-month project features 21 custom wood lockers and new flooring. More from MSJ: "This project absolutely could not have been completed without Mr. Chapman's generosity,'' coach Ryan Lengerich said. "He has ties to this program and believes in its mission and commitment to winning on the court, in the classroom and in the community. We are forever grateful and proud to have him as a friend to the program." The Mount building and grounds staff gutted the locker room in October, including removing small metal lockers and a privacy wall, which significantly increased the usable space in the locker room. New ceiling, trim and wall paint was followed by new flooring and custom lockers from JR Customs Unlimited in Hamilton. The locker room is a special place where the athletes celebrate the wins and pick each other up in defeat," Lengerich said. "These student-athletes deserve this locker room. They never asked for it, they only worked hard each day and were thankful for what they had. They are a humble group, and there is no doubt they will treat this locker room with respect and enjoy it." The men's volleyball locker room is provided by the university for use solely by the team.

If reinstated, Rose would have to be elected to the Hall by Expansion Era Committee, according to Hall of Fame spokesman Brad Horn. "Rose would be an eligible candidate for Hall of Fame consideration based on if he were to be reinstated by Major League Baseball," Horn wrote to the Enquirer in an email on Monday. "Should Rose be moved off Baseball's Ineligible list, his candidacy would fall to the Expansion Era Committee (which next votes next winter – 2016 for Induction in 2017), based on the rules for election. Only candidates who last appeared in a major league game within a 15-year window can be considered by the BBWAA."' I am a resident of the city of Lompoc and I would like to express my concern. I am the Varsity tennis coach for boys tennis at Lompoc High School.. I am also the tennis instructor for the Parks and Recreation department for the City of Lompoc. My concern is that there are six tennis courts at Ryon Park and they are the only public tennis courts in the city. The city has done a terrible job of maintaining the tennis courts there. Two of the courts cannot be used because of the weeds growing on them and zero maintenance. Two of the courts can be used, but need need more TLC. Last year I read in the Lompoc Record that the city wants to maintain a good quality of life for the residents of Lompoc. I thought great maybe someone on the city Council will initiate a vote to to put some of the tax money from all of the pot shops here to improve the quality of the tennis courts. Shame on the city for not maintaining the tennis courts to allow families or children to play on them. I run tennis camps for the P&R department teaching the juniors how to play the game and do not have any decent tennis courts to teach them on, plus to put on any small city tennis tournaments. I have been approached by many adults asking where they could find some decent tennis courts to play on.
