Our knowledge of extrasolar planets has grown exponentially, from our understanding of their formation and evolution to the development of different methods to detect them. Now that more than 370 exoplanets have been discovered, focus has moved from finding planets to characterise these alien worlds. As well as detecting the atmospheres of these exoplanets, part of the characterisation process undoubtedly involves the search for extrasolar moons. The structure of the thesis is as follows. In Chapter 1 an historical background is provided and some general aspects about ongoing situation in the research field of extrasolar planets are shown. In Chapter 2, various detection techniques such as radial velocity, microlensing, astrometry, circumstellar disks, pulsar timing and magnetospheric emission are described. A special emphasis is given to the transit photometry technique and to the two already operational transit space missions, CoRoT and Kepler. -

13.3.2018 EN Official Journal of the European Union L 70/1 II (Non-legislative acts) REGULATIONS COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2018/336 of 8 March 2018 amending Regulation (EC) No 748/2009 on the list of aircraft operators which performed an aviation activity listed in Annex I to Directive 2003/87/EC on or after 1 January 2006 specifying the administering Member State for each aircraft operator (Text with EEA relevance) THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION, Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, Having regard to Directive 2003/87/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 October 2003 establishing a scheme for greenhouse gas emission allowance trading within the Community and amending Council Directive 96/61/ EC (1), and in particular Article 18a(3)(b) thereof, Whereas: (1) Directive 2008/101/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council (2) amended Directive 2003/87/EC to include aviation activities in the scheme for greenhouse gas emission allowance trading within the Union. (2) Commission Regulation (EC) No 748/2009 (3) establishes a list of aircraft operators which performed an aviation activity listed in Annex I to Directive 2003/87/EC on or after 1 January 2006. (3) That list aims to reduce the administrative burden on aircraft operators by providing information on which Member State will be regulating a particular aircraft operator. (4) The inclusion of an aircraft operator in the Union’s emissions trading scheme is dependent upon the performance of an aviation activity listed in Annex I to Directive 2003/87/EC and is not dependent on the inclusion in the list of aircraft operators established by the Commission on the basis of Article 18a(3) of that Directive. -

Stanek20 Draft version April 3, 2012 ABSTRACT The Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Treasury (PHAT) is an on-going Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Multicycle Treasury program to image ∼1/3 of M31's star forming disk in six filters, spanning from the ultraviolet (UV) to the near-infrared (NIR). We use the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) and Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) to resolve the galaxy into millions of individual stars with projected radii from 0{20 kpc. The full survey will cover a contiguous 0.5 square degree area in 828 orbits. Imaging is being obtained in the F275W and F336W filters on the WFC3/UVIS camera, F475W and F814W on ACS/WFC, and F110W and F160W on WFC3/IR. The resulting wavelength coverage gives excellent constraints on stellar temperature, bolometric luminosity, and extinction for most spectral types. The data produce photometry with a signal-to-noise ratio of 4 at mF275W = 25:1, mF336W = 24:9, mF475W = 27:9, mF814W = 27:1, mF110W = 25:5, and mF160W = 24:6 for single pointings in the uncrowded outer disk; in the inner disk, however, the optical and NIR data are crowding limited, and the deepest reliable magnitudes are up to 5 magnitudes brighter. -

Everett7 Received 2006 July 22; accepted 2007 February 7 ABSTRACT Driven by the incomplete understanding of the formation of gas giant extrasolar planets and of their mass-radius relationship, several ground-based, wide-field photometric campaigns are searching the skies for new transiting ex- trasolar gas giants. As part of the Trans-atlantic Exoplanet Survey (TrES), in 2003/2004 we monitored approximately 30,000 stars (9:5 V 15:5) in a 5:7 ; 5:7 field in Andromeda with three telescopes over 5 months. We identified six candidate transiting planets from the stellar light curves. From subsequent follow-up observations we rejected each of these as an astrophysical false positive, i.e., a stellar system containing an eclipsing binary, whose light curve mimics that of a Jupiter-sized planet transiting a Sunlike star. We discuss here the procedures followed by the TrES team to reject false positives from our list of candidate transiting hot Jupiters. We present these candidates as early examples of the various types of astrophysical false positives found in the TrES campaign, and discuss what we learned from the analysis.
