Repair Reuse Repair REPAIR REUSE REPAIR WEXFORD Wexford’s Repair Directory Wexford County Council, as part of the Southern Waste Management Region, is endeavouring to encourage people to reduce consumer consumption by promoting the repair of household items rather than disposing of them, thereby reducing waste generation and associated environmental impacts. Waste Prevention is one of the main principles of the current Southern Waste Management Plan. The list of repair services was collated by Wexford County Council with the assistance of; Ballycullane Tidy Towns, Duncormick Area Action Group, Ferns Tidy Towns and New Ross Tidy Towns. Wexford County Council does not advocate or endorse any listing. As part of this directive the HSE formed a Local Implementation Group comprising of HSE personnel involved in the delivery of Paediatric Services. Parent, Department of Education and Section 39 Voluntary agency representatives will also become involved in this process as we move forward. While reviewing current service provision it became apparent that there was a lack of awareness of all the support services that are available for children and their parents in the Wexford area. In order to address this deficit we have put together the attached directory of local supports both Voluntary and HSE run in County Wexford.     Draft Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy - Southern Region Submission from Wexford County Council 0 P a g e | 1 Wexford County Council P a g e | 2 Executive Summary Wexford County Council (WCC) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Draft Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES). WCC make the following suggestions to the RSES which would see a much improved and strengthened strategy to the benefit of the whole region. WCC welcomes the holistic objectives which form the strategy outlined in Section 2.2 and consider that they will positively influence the sustainable development of the region. The RSES would benefit from a more defined strategy which clearly outlines the dynamics of the strategy. This section should be explicit in stating what the strategy is and how it will achieve its vision and deliver effective regional development to the benefit of the whole region. This should be accompanied by a clearly identified, named and graphically illustrated Spatial Strategy, Economic Strategy and Settlement Hierarchy1. It should provide a vision and strategy for each of the components of the region; the Southern Region, each Strategic Planning Area, the three Metropolitan Areas, each county, the Key Towns, other towns and villages, rural areas and Networks. The strategy needs to clearly address and plan for the mechanisms by which the MASPs will drive the development of the region. WCC request that the key principle of ‘tackling legacies’ in urban centres is expanded to include tackling legacies and regional socio-economic disparities in all areas and at all levels of the hierarchy. The theme legacies/disparities should be reflected throughout the RSES, in particular, the sections relating to employment, education and quality of life and it should be linked to URDF/RRDF/DTF/CAF funds.

Sea angling is available along the entire coastline from Dundalk in County Louth to Ballyteigue Bay in County Wexford. You will find many fantastic venues and a multitude of species throughout the region. Whether fishing from the shore or from a licenced charter boat there is terrific sport to be had, and small boat operators will find many suitable slipways for their vessels. At venues such as Cahore in Co. Wexford small boat anglers battle with fast running Tope, Smoothhound, and Ray. Kilmore Quay in South Wexford is a centre of excellence for angling boasting all types of fishing for the angler. There is a great selection of chartered boats and the facilities for small boat fishing are second to none. Anglers can go reef fishing for Pollack, Wrasse, Cod, and Ling. From springtime onwards at various venues shore anglers lure, fly, and bait fish for the hard fighting Bass, while specialist anglers target summer Mullet and winter Flounder. In recent years black bream have been turning up in good numbers in the Wexford area and this species has recently been added to the Irish specimen fish listing.

File No s.2847. Form B.S.M.2 STATENT BY Mr. MICHAEI CONWAY, Curraghmore, Ballycullane, County Wexford. I joined the Ballycullane Company of the Irish Volunteers in 1917. There were between 25 and 30 men in the Company. John Timmins, who died a few years ago, was Company Captain. Meetings of the Company were held in secret twice weekly. The training included foot drill, arms drill, instruction in the use of and held field arms, occasionally we exercises. The members of the Company were actively engaged daring the l9lg General Election on behalf of the Slim Féin candidate. We attended public meetings, canvassed electors and on polling day acted as tally clerks, and helped to transport the voters to the polling stations. The first activity of a military nature was the collecting of fire-arms, principally shot guns, from the farmers. This operation was carried out in the Company area in one night. We just: got it done in good time as the R.I.C. were on the same job two days afterwards, but they were too late as we had collected all the available arms. The next order I got was to collect boxes of old cart-wheels and old water-piping of about two inches in diameter for the purpose of making bombs with which to attack R.I.C.
