Celebrating Success! Mid Term Altamuskin’s February News CelebratingCelebrating Success!Success! Our Under 11 team won their section of the Credit Union Quiz on Friday evening. This means that they are now through to the Tyrone Final which will be held in Kelly’s Inn on Sunday 5th March at 2pm. Keep the date free and come along to support our school team! Well done to EVERYONE who went along and represented our Congratulations to our school hurling team who made it to the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Hurling: Tyrone Final 2017 for the first time ever! Two groups of 4 were drawn out and a highly competitive series of matches ensued. St. Colmcille’s P.S. Carrickmore were defending Ty- rone and Ulster champions, and they cruised through their Section with a 100% win-record to comfortably book their Semi-Final berth. They were joined by the boys from Gaelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh, Stra- bane, as group Runners-Up. After some heroic hurling, the St. Brigid P.S. Altamuskin lads narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot, as did the battling boys from St. Mary’s P.S. Ballygawley. Well done boys...you did us proud! The project began when the first two past pupils got two more to join them and so the Research Team began their work which ha s taken over a year to bring to completion. Now they are looking forward to the 10th.September 2004 when all the Past Pupils from home and abroad will gather in Quinn's Corner where many old acquaintances will meet and have an enjoyable night.     Preliminary Options Report Scheme Assessment Report 1 - Constraints Report 3 Description of Alternative Schemes 3.1 The Study Area In order to identify a route for the A5WTC, extensive consultation and investigation is required in order to ensure that all pertinent environmental and engineering constraints are considered and for this reason it is necessary to identify a study area that covers a sufficiently large geographical area at the outset of the assessment process. In the case of the A5WTC the general centreline of the study area was largely dictated by the overriding requirement that the route should generally follow the existing established transport corridor, and in so doing link the main centres of population along the route (i.e. Aughnacloy, Omagh, Strabane and Londonderry). There was also a requirement for the A5WTC to link in with the A4 (which is currently being upgraded to dual carriageway standard) close to the village of Ballygawley and in so doing open up an improved East–West Link to Belfast. The engineering study area was determined by reference to mapping, carrying out site visits and taking into account areas of settlement, very high and steep ground, major watercourses and the border. This boundary was an initial assessment and was refined during the assessment period to reflect a greater knowledge of particular locations. The environmental constraints study area was determined to ensure that all major constraints that could impact on or be impacted on by the new road would be identified and recorded. This study area crosses the border to allow the identification and assessment of trans-boundary effects in accordance with environmental legislation.

    Preliminary Options Report Scheme Assessment Report 1 - Constraints Report 7 Corridor Evaluation 7.1 Road Design Categories 7.1.1 Road Design Standard The Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) Volume 6; Section 1; TD 9/93 Highway Link Design states that All-Purpose dual carriageways shall be designed to permit light vehicles to maintain the design speed. Subject to traffic conditions, light vehicles can overtake slower moving vehicles throughout. Five categories of dual carriageway are defined, three of which refer to 2 lane all purpose dual (D2AP) carriageway: Category 5 – This is the lowest category of dual carriageway, which normally represents an alternative to single carriageways. The vertical alignment should follow the topography closely with the horizontal alignment phased to match. All junctions should be at-grade, with roundabouts at the more heavily trafficked intersections, although where economically / environmentally feasible, grade-separated solutions should be provided. Category 6 – In this category, gaps in the central reserve for turning traffic are not permissible, and major / minor junctions shall not be used. Minor roads shall be stopped up, provided with left in / left out connections, or grade-separated without connection. Major intersection types, which may include roundabouts, will be determined by site conditions, traffic demand, and economic / environmental effect. However, the high costs of delays caused by roundabouts will normally result in more economic grade-separated solutions at the higher end of the range. The combined vertical / horizontal alignments should follow the topography as much as possible, without purposely achieving a “motorway” type flowing alignment. Category 7a – This is the highest category of Dual 2-lane All-Purpose road, where all intersections, both major and minor, shall be grade-separated.
