A local source from Ngaba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan (the Tibetan area of Amdo) told Radio Free Asia: “He was protesting against Chinese policies in Tibet. His body was taken away by police.” Another source told RFA: “He had received [religious] recognition for his vow not to harm others in personal disputes—a vow that he took in honor of all those who have sacrificed themselves in self- immolation protests for the cause of Tibetan freedom” the source said.” (RFA report, April 16, 2015).

With the support of our global network of Tibet supporters, this latest compilation spans a period of nine years with resolutions reflecting the international community’s continued solidarity with the aspirations of the Tibetan people inside Tibet who yearn for free- dom and stand strong in the face of great adversity. So much has happened during that period, the mass protests across the Tibetan plateau in 2008, the year the Olympic Games were held in Beijing, the wave of self-immolations which started in 2009 and, sadly, per- sists to this day. All the resolutions call for the Chinese government to recognize and peacefully address the underlying grievances of the Tibetan people. Each day, China grows more assertive globally and carries on with implementation of policies in Tibetan areas giving rise to political repression, cultural assimilation, lack of religious freedom, economic marginalization and environmental destruction. Under such cir- cumstances, the unwavering expression of support by governments, parliamentarians and civil society is all the more critical. Thanks to the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan struggle is known today as an enduring symbol of non-violent politi- cal movement based on the Middle Way Approach (Umaylam in Ti- betan).

All three sentences were reported in the Chinese state media, with Xinhua reporting that the three monks sentenced "plotted, instigated and assisted in the self-immolation of fellow monk Rigzin Phuntsog, causing his death" (Xinhua, August 31, 2011). Reports from Tibetans in exile in contact with people in the region indicated that due legal process was not followed in any of the three cases, with the Tibetans unable to choose their own lawyer and the whereabouts of all three prisoners being withheld from their families upon detention. Ngaba (Ch: Aba) prefecture, Sichuan Lobsang Tenzin Losang Tsondru Lobsang Tenzin Province, has been the scene of numerous protests over the past several years against the Chinese government.

    Kalon Dicki Chhoyang Kalon (Ministro) per l'Informazione e le Relazioni Internazionali Dicki Chhoyang è nata a Mussoorie, in India, nel 1966. È emigrata in Canada con la sua famiglia all'età di quattro anni. È cresciuta a Montreal, in Quebec, e ha iniziato il suo lavoro al servizio della comunità tibetana in giovanissima età. A quattordici anni ha iniziato a lavorare come traduttrice e interprete, dal tibetano al francese, in occasione di eventi in seno alla comunità. Intorno ai vent'anni si è dedicata a due progetti principali. Il primo ha visto la sua partecipazione al primo documentario canadese sul Tibet, intitolato "A song for Tibet" e prodotto dall'Ente nazionale canadese per la cinematografia. Il secondo è stato un progetto di reinsediamento tibetano negli USA, nel cui ambito ha svolto un ruolo di coordinamento e di sostegno a 21 tibetani insediati in Connecticut. Dopo aver completato tali progetti, ha continuato a studiare e fare ricerca e ha lavorato in Tibet e Cina come promotrice e sostenitrice della causa del Tibet. Ha conseguito la laurea in Studi eurasiatici e ha svolto ricerca nella provincia di Amdo, nel Tibet orientale.
