Los Primeros Teléfonos Con Firefox OS Serán De La Marca Española Geeksphone INNOVACIÓN Los primeros teléfonos con Firefox OS serán de la marca española Geeksphone La Campus Party de Brasil, que se celebrará la próxima semana en São Paulo, será el escenario donde Telefónica mostrará los primeros smartphones basados en el sistema operativo Firefox OS de Mozilla, una plataforma abierta basada en lenguaje HTML5 con la que ambas compañías quieren romper la hegemonía de Apple y Android. Ayer presentaron los dos primeros modelos, para uso exclusivo de desarrolladores, diseñados junto a la firma española Geeskphone. Los primeros teléfonos basados en el sistema operativo Firefox OS, una plataforma abierta basada íntegramente en lenguaje HTML5, impulsada por Mozilla y Telefónica para competir con sistemas como IOS, de Apple, y Android, llevarán la marca Geeksphone. Esta joven empresa española, curiosamente, fue la primera compañía europea en fabricar un smartphone basado en Android. Geeksphone fabrica sus terminales en colaboración con Cellon, su socio chino, que es su integrador de la cadena de suministro, y tiene su base en Shanghai. La colaboración de las tres compañias, durante casi un año, ha dado como fruto dos terminales a los que han llamado Keon (gama baja) y Peak (gama INNOVACIÓN alta), que se mostrarán la semana que viene en la Campus Party de Brasil, en São Paulo, según anunció ayer Carlos Domingo, director de desarrollo de producto e innovación de Telefónica Digital, durante la presentación que tuvo lugar en Madrid. El destino de estos terminales no será comercial. Con el objetivo de que Firefox OS sea un éxito entre sus clientes, Telefónica ha decidido adquirir varios dispositivos de Geeksphone para testeo interno y para su distribución gratuita entre los desarrolladores, en aquellos mercados en los que opera, añadió Domingo. En su opinión, “la fabricación de estos nuevos terminales para desarrolladores es crucial para asegurar que el ecosistema alrededor de Firefox OS está preparado para cuando los primeros smartphones salgan al mercado durante 2013”. Los dos modelos serán para uso exclusivo de desarrolladores Telefónica tiene previsto lanzar su primer servicio comercial con móviles que incorporen Firefox OS en Brasil en el segundo trimestre de este año a través de Vivo, la marca de la multinacional española en ese país. Para ello, contarán con grandes fabricantes chinos como TCL Communication Technology (bajo la marca Alcatel One Touch) o ZTE. Después se lanzaran también en otros mercados latinoamericanos, señaló a SINC Carlos Domingo. El precio de estos teléfonos estará entre los 100 y los 200 euros. Entorno real Javier Agüera, cofundador y director de tecnología de Geeksphone, explicó que los terminales Keon y Peak llevan una versión inicial de Firefox OS adaptada para facilitar el trabajo de los desarrolladores. Estos terminales, añadió, permitirán probar las capacidades de este sistema operativo en un entorno real y harán posible comprobar algunas características como el rendimiento real de los dispositivos o la interacción con la red móvil. INNOVACIÓN Según Agüera, ambos terminales están preparados para poder ser utilizados en cualquier lugar del mundo, gracias a su conectividad con casi todas las redes existentes Por su parte, Stormy Peters, directora de gestión de desarrolladores y web de Mozilla, destacó la importancia de “llevar la libertad y la apertura del lenguaje HTML5 al mundo de la telefonía móvil”. Firefox OS, dijo, “elimina muchas de las limitaciones del desarrollo web para dispositivos móviles y abarata todo el proceso”. Más de ocho millones de usuarios desarrollan contenidos para HTML5 y muchos de ellos han creado aplicaciones para Firefox OS a lo largo del año que lleva activo el proyecto, utilizando para ello emuladores. Sin embargo, “los nuevos smartphones suponen una gran muestra de apoyo para esta comunidad”, señaló Peters. Características técnicas de los terminales Keon, el terminal de gama más baja desarrollado por Geeksphone, tiene un procesador Qualcomm 7225A 1GHz, con pantalla de 3,5 pulgadas y cámara de 3 megapíxeles (MPX). Y Peak, el de gama alta, está equipado con procesador Qualcomm 8225 1,2GHz con dos núcleos, cuenta con pantalla de 4,3 pulgadas y dos cámaras. Ambos smartphones cuentan con versiones de desarrollo de Firefox OS. Los desarrolladores que deseen solicitar un Keon o un Peak cuando estén disponibles pueden visitar la web de Geeksphone para obtener información. INNOVACIÓN Pruebas en la Campus Party de Brasil Telefónica ha anunciado que distribuirá varios dispositivos de los nuevos terminales de Geeksphone entre los desarrolladores durante la próxima Campus Party Brasil, que tendrá lugar en São Paulo desde el próximo 28 de enero. En el evento, la operadora española a será anfitriona en varios talleres y encuentros de programadores de Firefox OS, donde los desarrolladores podrán probar sus propias aplicaciones usando estos dispositivos.
