Ju for ch Forest .No. 1 Villase under MavalliHobli in BhatkalTaluk of U. K. district

The proposed port at Honnavar on the Tonka side is situated on the left bank of river Sharavati near the confluence/estuary of rivers Sharavatiand Badagani and Arabian sea.The road connectivity to this proposed port is very crucial and plays a vital role in transporting the cargoes to neighboring hinterlands. The Government of Karnataka has accorded approval to develop the infrastructure in Honnavar port and taking up the Port OPerations etc.

As per the DPR approved by the Government of Karnataka, it is proposed to construct two rubble mound breakwaters at the existing gut along with river bank and coastal protection works, RCC piled quay, allied buildings, CC pavement and concrete road. ln this connection tt//s HPPL has taken up the preliminary survey work for the identification of stone and/or metal quarries in and around Honnavar port. This matter of identification of source for procuring stone/metal has been discussed with the officers of the Revenue Department/Forest Department and liflines & Geology. However, the officers have informed that nolegal quarry is in existence in Uttar District in the i*idv'6.hue,, patta and/or forbst land. The forest officers have informed that nearly 82% of "*la '-''l'' -!lt ir[10 ih Uttar. Kangrafla'bistrict is classified as forest land thus leaving small portions of land under private and-governrnent lands. Thus it is imperative that the stone/metal is available only in forest lands. Further, the officers of the Forest Department have informed that granting of permission for quarrying on lease basis in the forest area in favor of Private / lndividuals/ Companies is not possible as per the Government directions. Thus, the only alternative is to apply for grant of lease for quarrying in forest area by the State/Central Government departments. lt is understood that PW, P & IWT Department, National Highway Authorities and other state/central government departments have filed applications for the grant of quarry leases in the forest land as required under the Forest Conservation Act, 1980. Their applications are under process and are under active consideration by the forest department. Accordingly, as suggiisted"by the officers of the Forest Department, [/l/s HPPL has identified a suitable area for quarry purpose in forest survey no. 1131 A of Bengre ll village under tMavallihobli in Bhatkaltaluka of district. The extent of the area identified under this survey number is 1.995 ha (Quarry area = 1 .97 ha & Approach road = 0.025 ha.). This site is about 32 kms from the proposed project site. IMap showing the required area is enclosed for ready reiference. Similarly we request the Port Department to file an application with the forest department and [t/ines and Geology Department for the diversification of Forest land in order to get the quarry lease to extract stone and/or metal for the purpose of Port development activities. Further, we submit that tV/s Honnavarfort Pvt Ltd will undertake all the liabilities and expenditure to be ineurred from time to time that is including NPV, submission of afforestation land value, payment of all the taxes payable to State and Central Government departments as applicable in this regard.
