South Point High School is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. CURRICULUM: The academic program is organized on a block schedule. The majority of our students are enrolled in 8 classes per year. Students must earn 28 credits in order to graduate. Block scheduling was instituted in 1995. South Point offers 15 advanced Placement courses: Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, English Literature, English Language, Environmental Science, European History, Government and Political Systems, Human Geography, Physics, Spanish Language, Statistics, US History, World History. Available online and off site AP courses include Computer Science Principles. AP is an open-enrollment program. South Point offers 34 Honors courses: Math I, Math II, Math III, Pre-Calculus, Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, Forensic Science I/II, World History, Civics and Economics, American History I/II, French III/IV, Spanish III/IV, Choral Music, Band, Visual Arts, Health Science I/II, Microsoft Word/PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Multimedia and Webpage Design, Nursing Fundamentals, Early Childhood Education I/II, Drafting I/II, and Teacher Cadet I/II. Additional honors courses are available online. Students have the opportunity to take courses online through the North Carolina Virtual High School (NCVPS), Gaston GO Online, and Career and College Promise. Our partnership with Gaston College enables students to enroll in college courses and earn college credits while in high school. Class Rank Class Rank is based on the weighted 4.0 scale. Class rank is computed at the end of each semester. Rank is exact and is cumulative beginning with the freshman year. All courses are given credit and all students are ranked. Class rank is shown on transcript. Advanced level, CCP, and honors courses are weighted.
