Newport-High-Rugby-Academy.Pdf The Rugby Programme The training will be complimentary to the academic programme as the main focus will still be the development of the individual. Training will focus on the practical delivery of technical, tactical, physical and mental elements of rugby and aim to place the player in a high performance and competitive environment. The rugby academy will be entering National tournaments such as the Welsh College league, the Association of Colleges League, the Welsh schools league, the Llandovery 7’s, URDD 7’s and the Rosslyn Park 7’s tournaments. The College League is the key competition to underpin the Dragon Regional U18’s competition and S4C will provide live coverage of this competition. All games and results will be promoted through the WRU, Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport High School web sites. The school is the hub for these young athletes where they begin a journey to develop their rugby talent, attain higher education qualifications and fundamentally become BETTER individuals. Combining the individual aspects of their academic studies, their rugby pro- gramme and commitments with our Dagon partners will allow players of the academy to develop an innate competitive edge, time keeping skills and good habits that are essential to survive in the professional arena. It is the premier competition for rugby players of this age. The Academy will synchronise all of the players timetables allowing access to them as a group to deliver specialised rugby sessions per week. I enrolled for my A-Level studies and participated in the academy rugby programme there. In my time there I developed my technical, tactical, mental and physical attributes that are vital to becoming a professional rugby player of the future. It was important that I made improvements in these areas and would train 12 hours per week in order to achieve this. The training was part of my academic timetable and meant that I could take part in a professional set up within the sixth form of Newport High School. The rugby manager, Robert Sidoli was in charge of my provision and whilst his focus was to develop me as a player, he also developed me as a person. He was influential in ensuring that I balanced my commitments between training and my studies and made it clear to me that a successful student from the academy was one who could attain a rugby contract as well as all his academic qualifications. I really enjoyed my experience with the academy and wish anyone else who enrols there the same success I had. From broken bones and viral bugs, to major surgery and life threatening conditions, the staff there see it all. Many patients arrive via the hospital’s emergency department which, last year, saw over 5,000 children after falls, head injuries and even objects stuck up noses. While 90% go home the same day, others aren’t so lucky. One boy staying overnight is nine-year-old Jack. What began as a fun game of hide and seek in school, ends in A&E with a suspected broken arm. His grandparents are with him but, like many children in pain, Jack just wants his mum.

W. ROLLESTON MYTHS & LEGENDS OF THE CELTIC RACE CONSTABLE - LONDON [8] British edition published by Constable and Company Limited, London First published 1911 by George G. Harrap & Co., London [9] PREFACE The Past may be forgotten, but it never dies. The elements which in the most remote times have entered into a nation's composition endure through all its history, and help to mould that history, and to stamp the character and genius of the people. The examination, therefore, of these elements, and the recognition, as far as possible, of the part they have actually contributed to the warp and weft of a nation's life, must be a matter of no small interest and importance to those who realise that the present is the child of the past, and the future of the present; who will not regard themselves, their kinsfolk, and their fellow-citizens as mere transitory phantoms, hurrying from darkness into darkness, but who know that, in them, a vast historic stream of national life is passing from its distant and mysterious origin towards a future which is largely conditioned by all the past wanderings of that human stream, but which is also, in no small degree, what they, by their courage, their patriotism, their knowledge, and their understanding, choose to make it.

  • Rabodirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 ROUND 15 PREVIEWS ROUND 15 FIXTURES
RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 Round 15: 20th – 23rd February 2014 ROUND 15 PREVIEWS With the international weekend kicking off on Friday night, the majority of the RaboDirect PRO12 games take place on Sunday, however Cardiff Blues open round 15 with their game against current champions, Leinster at the Arms Park on Thursday evening and if past form is any guide Cardiff will have their work cut out to claim victory in this match. The sole game on Saturday is also in Wales with Edinburgh Rugby visiting Llanelli to play Scarlets, who missed out last round due to the weather in Belfast. The Scots do not travel well, so Scarlets must be hoping to put their own home record back on track in this fixture. The remaining four games take place on Sunday, with a TV double header in Italy, Benetton Treviso hosting Ulster and Zebre facing another Irish province, Connacht. Connacht’s victory over Edinburgh last time out saw them swap places with Zebre at the foot of the table, which could be reversed if Zebre claim this tie. Ulster on the other hand will be hoping they can make up some ground on the teams above them in the Play-Off zone. At the same time the remaining two Welsh regions will be in action in the principality. Newport Gwent Dragons opponents’ Glasgow Warriors, currently sit in 4th place in the table courtesy of one more win than Ulster, and still have two games in hand over the three teams above them. The outstanding game must be the pick of the weekend, leaders Munster travelling to face 3rd placed Ospreys, who claimed a record victory over Treviso in their last game at the Liberty Stadium.

Education & Learning 'Rugby with Rodney' 2 Like everybody, in between washing his hands and learning new rugby skills, Rodney needs some help with learning other skills and is asking all his friends if they could work through some of his tasks and send them into us or post them to us on twitter. [email protected] @DRA_Community Good luck and thanks for your help. Task 1 Lots of Rodney's friends that play for Dragons Rugby are in different positions. Could you write a paragraph on one forward and one of our backs and explain the differences between them? Rodney says : “Think about what different skills sets or qualities they may need…” Task 2 I sometimes get really confused with the different sizes and weights of our Dragons players. Below are some of our players: I would like you to research and tell me the height and weight of them all and convert it from metric to imperial measurements. (Metres & Kilograms / Feet & Pounds). Rio Dyer Elliot Dee Jack Dixon Rhodri Williams Ross Moriarty Richard Hibbard Sam Davies Aaron Wainright Task 3 I love keeping fit and healthy like all our Dragons players. Could you help me by using your technology at home to video a short exercise video in your home or garden to give me some ideas? Rodney says: “Think of using your communication skills, as well as videoing the action from different angles or slow motion to help me understand your exercises…” Task 4 At the Dragons we don’t only have Welsh born players in our squad.
