  • Analysing Rugby Game Attendance at Selected Smaller Unions in South Africa
Analysing rugby game attendance at selected smaller unions in South Africa by PAUL HEYNS 12527521 B.Com (Hons), NGOS Mini-dissertation submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Master of Business Administration at the Potchefstroom Business School of the North-West University Supervisor: Prof. R.A. Lotriet November 2012 Potchefstroom ABSTRACT Rugby union is being viewed and played by millions of people across the world. It is one of the fastest growing sport codes internationally and with more countries emerging and playing international and national games, the supporter attendance is crucial to the game. The rugby industry is mostly formal, with an international body controlling the sport globally and a governing body in each country to regulate the sport in terms of rules and regulations. These bodies must adhere to the international body’s vision and mission to grow the sport and to steer it in the correct direction. This study focuses on rugby game attendance of selected smaller unions in South Africa. Valuable information was gathered describing the socio- economic profile and various preferences and habits of supporters attending rugby games. This information forms the basis for future studies to honour the people that support their unions when playing rugby nationally or internationally. The research was conducted through interviews with influential administrators within the rugby environment and questionnaires that were distributed among supporters that attended a Leopard and Puma game. The main conclusions during the study were the failure to attract supporters to the Leopards and the Pumas local matches. The supporters list various reasons for poor supporter attendances namely: a lack of marketing, no entertainment, the quality of the teams that are competing, and the time-slots in which the matches take place.

Education & Learning 'Rugby with Rodney' 2 Like everybody, in between washing his hands and learning new rugby skills, Rodney needs some help with learning other skills and is asking all his friends if they could work through some of his tasks and send them into us or post them to us on twitter. [email protected] @DRA_Community Good luck and thanks for your help. Task 1 Lots of Rodney's friends that play for Dragons Rugby are in different positions. Could you write a paragraph on one forward and one of our backs and explain the differences between them? Rodney says : “Think about what different skills sets or qualities they may need…” Task 2 I sometimes get really confused with the different sizes and weights of our Dragons players. Below are some of our players: I would like you to research and tell me the height and weight of them all and convert it from metric to imperial measurements. (Metres & Kilograms / Feet & Pounds). Rio Dyer Elliot Dee Jack Dixon Rhodri Williams Ross Moriarty Richard Hibbard Sam Davies Aaron Wainright Task 3 I love keeping fit and healthy like all our Dragons players. Could you help me by using your technology at home to video a short exercise video in your home or garden to give me some ideas? Rodney says: “Think of using your communication skills, as well as videoing the action from different angles or slow motion to help me understand your exercises…” Task 4 At the Dragons we don’t only have Welsh born players in our squad.

“In the New Zealand versus South Africa match in Wellington, the Springboks made a total of 220 tackles, 59% of which were dominant and 107(of the 220) were double tackles.” – Rugby Analytics via Oom Rugby writing on All Out Rugby. Volume 1, Number 8 27 September 2018 Register to receive your own free weekly newsletter at www.leopardnewsletters.co.za Not Jantjies OR Pollard; Jantjies AND Pollard Regular readers of this newsletter may recall that we suggested several weeks ago that, perhaps, just perhaps, Coach Rassie has been thinking of playing Elton Jantjies and Handré Pollard at 10 and 12 respectively. Well, he got the chance against the All Blacks in Wellington when Damian De Allende went off injured in the 47th minute. And so effective were Jantjies and Pollard that Derek Alberts was moved to tweet: It’s an interesting observation and, depending on Coach Rassie’s selections this weekend, we may learn more about it as all three are in the squad and no-one appears to have been called up as cover for De Allende. Ruhan Nel has been brought in but he’s perceived in most quarters as a 13 more than a 12. Indeed, as Sport24 chief writer, Rob Houwing, suggests that a starting 10-12 combo of Jantjies and Pollard suddenly looks incredibly close to fruition for the Springboks. And he’s not alone. Former Springbok fly half Hennie le Roux believes it’s a combination that can He writes: “Partly by process of simple elimination, work.
