Barb is no stranger to the Guardian having previ- ously been a member of the accounts team. She brings with her a strong accounting and man- agement background, working primarily in the Wai- kato where she managed an accounting firm with a staff of 30. “I’m an absolute processes and numbers person and I’ve always worked in accounting firms or own- er-operated business as their company accountant,” she said. With husband Steve she moved from the Waikato to Westport before moving to Ashburton six years ago and joining the Guardian staff. After a stint out of the accounting industry where she worked in the dairy industry, Adam returned to the Guardian this year in an accounting role. “Leaving my industry made me realise how much I liked this kind of work. I absolutely love numbers,” she said. “I enjoy this company and the people here are so good to work with.” Barb says she is all about systems and numbers and will be working to refine the company’s processes. “I’m very lucky to have a strong team with me. Everyone knows what they’re doing and there’s a lot of experience among staff and it’s good to have strong back-up and support from Bruce (Bell, general man- ager).” Her management style, Barb said, was to resolve issues by working with people and making them feel valued and in finding ways to help staff to work smarter, rather than harder.
