Education & Learning
Education & Learning 'Rugby with Rodney' 2 Like everybody, in between washing his hands and learning new rugby skills, Rodney needs some help with learning other skills and is asking all his friends if they could work through some of his tasks and send them into us or post them to us on twitter. [email protected] @DRA_Community Good luck and thanks for your help. Task 1 Lots of Rodney's friends that play for Dragons Rugby are in different positions. Could you write a paragraph on one forward and one of our backs and explain the differences between them? Rodney says : “Think about what different skills sets or qualities they may need…” Task 2 I sometimes get really confused with the different sizes and weights of our Dragons players. Below are some of our players: I would like you to research and tell me the height and weight of them all and convert it from metric to imperial measurements. (Metres & Kilograms / Feet & Pounds). Rio Dyer Elliot Dee Jack Dixon Rhodri Williams Ross Moriarty Richard Hibbard Sam Davies Aaron Wainright Task 3 I love keeping fit and healthy like all our Dragons players. Could you help me by using your technology at home to video a short exercise video in your home or garden to give me some ideas? Rodney says: “Think of using your communication skills, as well as videoing the action from different angles or slow motion to help me understand your exercises…” Task 4 At the Dragons we don’t only have Welsh born players in our squad. -

The Rugby Programme The training will be complimentary to the academic programme as the main focus will still be the development of the individual. Training will focus on the practical delivery of technical, tactical, physical and mental elements of rugby and aim to place the player in a high performance and competitive environment. The rugby academy will be entering National tournaments such as the Welsh College league, the Association of Colleges League, the Welsh schools league, the Llandovery 7’s, URDD 7’s and the Rosslyn Park 7’s tournaments. The College League is the key competition to underpin the Dragon Regional U18’s competition and S4C will provide live coverage of this competition. All games and results will be promoted through the WRU, Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport High School web sites. The school is the hub for these young athletes where they begin a journey to develop their rugby talent, attain higher education qualifications and fundamentally become BETTER individuals. Combining the individual aspects of their academic studies, their rugby pro- gramme and commitments with our Dagon partners will allow players of the academy to develop an innate competitive edge, time keeping skills and good habits that are essential to survive in the professional arena. The influence Newport High and its academy programme has on the young adults of the Gwent area is fundamental in developing them as an INDIVIDUAL, them as a PLAYER and them as a TEAM Meet the Coaches Robert Sidoli - Rugby Manager Head of the rugby programme at Newport High School. Qualified teacher of Key Stage 4 PE, Key Stage 5 level 3 Sport and Level 3 Be- spoke Welsh Baccalaureate. -
