SHNITKA, Printer to the Queen's Most Exeellent Majesty 1966 BILL No. 48 of 1956 An Act to amend an Act respecting the Young Men's Christian Association of Edmonton (Assented to , 1956) Preamhle WHEREAS the Young Men's Christian Association of Edmonton has prayed for an amendment to chapter 40 of the Statutes of Alberta, 1907, being "An Act respec­ ting the Young Men's Christian Associa~on of Edmonton" and it is expedient to grant the prayer of the said petition: THEREFORE, HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. An Act respecting the Young Men's Christian Associ­ ation of Edmonton, being chapter 40 of the Statutes of Alberta, 1907, is hereby amended. SE'CtiOll 1 amended 2. Section 1 is amended by striking out the words "City of Edmonton" and by substituting the words "Province of Alberta", so that the section shall read as follows: 1. MacKenzie, Cecil Sydney Sutherland, John Sommerville, Alex­ ander Forin, Henry Astley, Charles George Jones, Oscar Frederick Strong, Ernest Edward Chauvin, Henry Richard Smith, Samuel Johnson McCoppen, Thonlas Maltby Grindley, Fred Swinton Watson, Edward Thomas Bishop, John Byron Mercer, John Henderson, Cassel Morton Tait, James Emberly Wallbridge, Charles Allan Myers, John Henry Hart, Rob-ert Barton Chadwick, James Burns Walter, 2 Albert Freeman Ewing, or such other persons as are now or shall hereafter become members of the said association, shall be and they are hereby con­ stituted a body politic and corporate under the name of "The Young Men's Christian Association of Edmonton", and shall have power to acquire and hold real estate in the (Province of Alberta), or any lease-hold or other interest therein, provid­ ing the annual value of the real estate so acquired or held and not actually used for the work of the said association, does not exceed at anyone time $10,000.00, and the same, or any part thereof, to alienate, exchange, mortgage, lease or otherwise charge or dispose of as occsion may require. 3. He then joined the law firm of Taylor and Boyle and in 1909 was admitted to the bar. He was on the Board of Trade and was a member of the Library Board for two years. Brockington was born in Cardiff, Wales to Walter Brockington and Annie Christmas Walters. 1893: began school at the Radnor Road School in Cardiff where his father is the Headmaster. September 8, 1903: received the senior certificate at age 15 from Cardiff Intermediate School for Boys. He was awarded a scholarship to the University College of South Wales in Cardiff. November 1908: received a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude with honours in Latin and Greek from the University College of South Wales. He was head of the debating society, the dramatic society, officiated the closing of the municipal buildings, and was Editor of the college newspaper. 1908 – 1912: taught English, Latin and Greek at Cowley Grammar School at St. Helens Lancashire. 1912: emigrated to Canada where he made his way to Edmonton, Alberta. May 31, 1913: married Agnes Neaves MacKenzie at the home of J.J. Duggan. August 1913: joined the City of Edmonton as Assistant Secretary to the City Commissioners and became editor of the Edmonton City Gazette. December 1914: fired from the Edmonton City Hall because of a speech he made in support of an Alderman. 1915: moved to Calgary and found work in the Calgary Land Titles office. May 1916: wrote the First Intermediate Examination for the Law Society of Alberta before beginning Articles. December 6, 1916: began Articles under senior lawyer L.M. Roberts at the Lougheed & Bennett firm.

Thomas Henery, son of Simeon, lived his life in Ireland. b. 1752, d. 1818. Married a Quaker. He had one son, John - one daughter, Mary. John Henery lived in Drumless, a townland situated in the electorial division of Corr, in the County of Cavan, Ireland. b. 1774, d. 1836. Married Nancy Biggar, b. 1776, d. 1816. They had seven children: 4 sons - Thomas, not known, James, William 3 daughters - Names unknown. In 1811 the family set sail for America. After seven weeks, they arrived in New York, then on to Albany. They made their way by boat and wagon up the Mohawk Trail to Niagara Falls (Lewiston), and thence by boat to Toronto (York). In 1816, John bought a farm in the Township of Whitby, at Port Oshawa-on-the-Lake and moved there with his family. His wife, Nancy, died in 1816 and John re-married. There is no record of any additional family members born to John and his second wife in Canada. John Henery changes the family name from Henery to Henry on arrival in Canada. He died in 1836 and is buried in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.

    Descendants of Robert Wood Generation 1 1. ROBERT1 WOOD was born in 1787 in Peebleshire, Scotland. He died on 09 Sep 1867 in Lombardy, Ontario. He married (1) JENNY BROWN. He married (2) MARY MAHON. She was born about 1810. Notes for Robert Wood: There are two versions of Robert Woods story. The first by JOHN ALBIN WOOD is a follows: Robert Wood came from Perthshire, Scotland on one of the Baltic ships in 1815. He settled on a piece of land at Wayside, in Drummond township, on the way to Carleton Place. He was a school teacher and we believe he assisted in some of the survey work in the area. Robert Wood is mentioned in the book, A Pioneer History of Lanark County, Jean McGill. We are told he was married to a Miss Brown also from Scotland who came with their two little boys to Canada in 1815. But his wife died in Montreal leaving him and his two boys to come ahead to Concession III, lot #7 of Drummond township to start a new life in Canada. He did marry late in life and had one child who later became a Mrs. George Bone of the Haliburton area. These men and their wives and families are in the Union Cemetery at Lombardy, Ontario. An extract of the second source, ELIZABETH WOOD DODDS, reads: "Robert Wood was born in the early seventeen eighties in Peebleshire on the Scottish border. He had one sister, Mary, and, I believe two brothers: James and John. Robert Wood married Janet Brown.
