Q36 WHAT TYPES OF RETAIL AND COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN SOUTHLAKE? 2013 CITIZEN SATISFACTION SURVEY www.CityofSouthlake.com/CitizenSurvey 338 2013 CITIZEN SATISFACTION SURVEY VERBATIM COMMENTS SECTION 8: COMMUNICATION Q36 WHAT TYPES OF RETAIL AND COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN SOUTHLAKE? 2013 CITIZEN SATISFACTION SURVEY www.CityofSouthlake.com/CitizenSurvey 339 Q36 - KEYWORD: HAPPY WITH WHAT WE HAVE • What types of retail and commercial development would you like to see in Southlake? I enjoy the country feel of southlake and am satisfied with current development Regarding the previous questions about parks - roadways - services: We do too much! We need to ban bicycles on our collector streets - especially during high traffic times! We have plenty (too many) parks. We have too much of all of that - get out of the way and the people and the businesses will take care of themselves... lower taxes! Quit spending! You are just like the federal govenment. It might be best to let the current development in Carillon and the still-planning development at 1709/Carroll have some time to settle down. I am definitely concerned that the retail growth is not sustainable in the long term. Trader Joe's is a terrible idea because although it's a novelty and many (including myself) would love to have access, the location across from CM and 3 miles away from Eatzi's is bad for everyone - not to mention the Whole Foods in Colleyville next year. I do not feel that some of these decisions have been truly evaluated in the context of business, outside of the "I want to have this" desire. Really do not want more I am very satisfied with what we currently have. I think the city is doing an excellent job of attracting a great mix of retail. We are very well stocked right now. We do not need anything else. We just about have one of everything. We sure do not need any commerical development. I Think the mix of retail in the Southlake Town Square is wonderful. I believe Cooper & Stebbins has done a fabulous job of bringing high quality retail and providing a one of a kind town center the entire City Council should be grateful to. My one complaint would be the slowness of the residential development in town square. Continue with what we have. Be sure they are aestecially pleasing Satisfied with what we have already. We need to maintain and improve what we have. No more. We live in Texas for its small town appeal. We are going to see people moving out of Texas very soon if we do not control the expansion. Not sure. We have almost everything. I'm good with what we have None we have enough development Currently have good retail development. 2013 CITIZEN SATISFACTION SURVEY www.CityofSouthlake.com/CitizenSurvey 340 Q36 - KEYWORD: HAPPY WITH WHAT WE HAVE • What types of retail and commercial development would you like to see in Southlake? I'm pretty sure we have enough. High Quality Retail has continued to be attracted to the area and I believe you hare handling it well. None- the last thing we need is more retail & commercial development!!Maintain what we have and focus on land preservation! satisfied with current retail and commercial i think we have a great mix already Fairly satisfied. we have enough (costco, kroger/tom thumb, town square, central market). prefer when 1709 had trees & less lights vs. numerous stores. what more do we need???? I am completely satisfied as I don't see further development needed. Southlake getting too big will lose it's charm. All is good today Just moved from MN, we have everything! I think we probably have enough considering the new stuff being bulit at Southlake Blvd. and Carroll ave. In my opinion we do not need additional retail development. Southlake already has too much retail development. Of course I wouldn't mind if you allowed a liquor store and/or brothel to open next door (sarcasm). none. Stop developing... I'm thinking we don't want to add too much more. It will take away the free space we have that gives the city the open, country feel and turn it into a big city feel. OK AS IS The city is already doing a good job. We have a good mix right now. I think it is just right I'm very happy with the job being done now. 2013 CITIZEN SATISFACTION SURVEY www.CityofSouthlake.com/CitizenSurvey 341 Q36 - KEYWORD: HAPPY WITH WHAT WE HAVE • What types of retail and commercial development would you like to see in Southlake? I think we have enough of everything! Please - no Trader Joes! None at the moment I am content with the retail and commercial services that Southlake offers. I think we already have a good selections of businesses here. Don't we have enough already? Seriously? Although we have done a far, far better job with commercial development than, say, Colleyville I really think the City has overplayed it's hand at this point and will rubber stamp just about any proposal. That Carillon development is the most egregious example of this while the self-righteous "controversy" over the Twin Peaks (?) restaurant the most comical. I think we are good. NONE I CAN THINK OFF - SOUTHLAKE OFFERS ALOT Retail is right on track. I am satisfied with the status quo. EVERYTHING I NEED IS ALREADY IN SOUTHLAKE SO I DON'T FEEL LIKE FURTHER DEVELOPMENT IS NEEDED. I think we have a good variety as it is We have enough. Recent developments have brought in fabulous restaurants, grocery, upscale retail, and medical facilities. Frankly, I am hoping that we don't continue to grow at this pace with commercial development because I would rather not turn Southlake into a strip mall. I would rather see some of the land remain undeveloped as I perceive we are running out of green space. No opinion. It seems like we have enough stores and commercial development now without even adding more. It has everything it needs. We have plenty now. In my opinion, the city has done an excellent job of retail and commercial development. I can't think of anything that I'd like to see at this point. No more. We have enough. I think the retail and commercial development should stop... you are going to jump the shark if you continue at this pace. I am satisfied with the current development that is already here. These seem to be covered in southlake Not sure, we have so many restaurants including fine dining, wine bars, various fitness centers, a cinema, an apple store located in our fabulous town square, "The Rack" among otghers... what more can I ask for? I am satisfied with the diversity of businesses presently in the City. I think we pretty much have everything. We already have pretty much have every type of business that we need. Good job currently. Please don't over build, and cause blackouts in shoppiung centers I am more in camp of supporting what we have versus having a huge influx of new. Not resistant to change. And I understand that need for economical development to generate tax revenues. But fear Southlake is becoming over-developed. we have enough retail and commercial development. No more of either. We have plenty. none, we have too many that have are out of business, why add more? keep it a community I'd actually like to see less retail and commercial development. I feel like the market has become saturated for a city of our size. no more needed Enough! Support what we have - I see way too many businesses go out of business within a year or two while the city continues to pursue new businesses that compete with existing businesses. none we have enough!!! We have what we need We have enough We are satisfied with the current status 2013 CITIZEN SATISFACTION SURVEY www.CityofSouthlake.com/CitizenSurvey 343 Q36 - KEYWORD: HAPPY WITH WHAT WE HAVE • What types of retail and commercial development would you like to see in Southlake? No more We have all we need no additional No more development of any kind. This was a small town for people who worked in the larger metropolitan areas. People moved here to have a quiet home life and raise children in a slower environment, while working in the busy cities. We don't need to be a thriving, economic metropolis, nor a tourism hub, nor the next cool urban city. With the new restaurants in town, I am very satisfied with the mix of businesses we now have. Continue in this same vein and I'm happy. we have a good mix We do not need any more retail/commercial development. Southlake is becoming too congested. Just keep the ones we already have I think we have everything we could possibly need. NO MORE ABSOLUTELY NO MORE I am very satisfied with what is already here. I think we have enough. Nothing is missing. i am satisfied with retail mix I am ok with what we have No more I think we are in good shape. We might not have an A+W Root beer store but that is ok. We have enough of everything else. Plenty of national big brands and some small home town business.
