We talked with the Supervisor of Election to find out why so many names could be removed, and he explained. Removal and Reinstatement of Names on Voter Rolls If the supervisor of elections receives change of address information from jury notices signed by the voter and returned to the courts, from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, or from other sources indicating that the voter might have changed his or her legal address, the supervisor of elections office will send an address confirmation final notice to the voter. All voters who have been mailed an address confirmation final notice and who do not return the form within 30 days will be placed on the inactive voter registration list. Voters on the inactive list may be reinstated by updating their voter registration, appearing to vote, or requesting a vote by mail ballot, providing their status has not changed. However, after two general elections from the date the notice was sent, all inactive voters who show no activity will be removed from the registration records and must register again in order to vote. (See Section 98.065, Florida Statutes) What this means is that we have work to do and he has agreed to help, where legal- ly possible. First, we must be prepared. Types of Identification Accepted Current and valid photo and signature identification are required to vote at the polls. A voter who fails to show photo and signature identification will be required to vote a provisional ballot. Acceptable forms of identification include: Florida driver license Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles United States passport Debit or credit card Military identification Student identification Retirement center identification Neighborhood association identification Public assistance identification It is important that when getting an acceptable ID, you must first, have a certified copy of your birth certificate. If you have had a name change since birth, then it is imperative that you show a certified copy of the mrriage license or document that changed your name, no matter how often you changed your name and recorded such on public records. ONLY certified documents are acceptable. We are aware of a lady who is 92 years old, and was married in 1940. She was born in Jacksonville but married in Georgia. Therefore, she had to contact Georgia to get her certified marriage certificate since her marriage occurred after 1935. Her husband passed some years ago and she never remarried. Yet, she had to show how her name was changed from birth. The deadline to register is October 9th. Early voting begins on October 27th. It is important that you check the list if you have not voted in more than two federal elec- tions, and have your friends, relatives and associates do the same. The list of those removed from the voters roll is in alphabetical order so, if you sus- pect your name or someone you know name has been removed, please contact them or call the office of the Supervisor of Elections at (904) 630-1414 or www.duvalelec- tions.com. Former Pirates Player ‘Slays’ It On The Field Earning SEC Defensive Player Of The Week Title

By DEMETRIOUS LAWRENCE Florida/Georgia Star

If South Alabama has any chance to upset No. 23 Mississippi State this week one thing is for certain - do not throw to Darius Slay’s side of the field! Slay, the Bulldogs' do-everything star, was this weeks the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. The electrifying senior defensive back has certainly earned it - Slay recorded six tackles, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a pass break up in the Bulldogs' 30-24 win over Troy. Slay's four interceptions this year has him tied for the most in the nation. Mississippi State first signed him out of Brunswick, Ga., where he played with the Brunswick High Pirates as an all-state running back and defensive back. He was named All-State by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution at defensive back following his sen- ior season. Slay was also chosen for the Georgia North-South All Star Game plus he Brunswick High got the rushed for over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns in the 2008 season. Also voted first-team All-Region 23 by the national coaches, Slay col- lected 27 tackles and forced one fumble on defense. He caught three passes for 63 yards including a 43-yard touchdown. Junior College Grid Wire named him to their preseason All-America second team, and Mississippi Gridiron Magazine tabbed him All-MACJC prior to the campaign. As a freshman recognized as first-team All-State and All-Region 23 at cornerback and a second-team All-State kick returner. In recent seasons, no stat has been a better harbinger of success for the Bulldogs than turnover margin. Over the last three plus seasons, State has won 19 of 20 games when victorious in the turnover column. Conversely, the Bulldogs have won just four times out of 12 when losing the turnover battle. Through three games, State ranks atop the nation along with Alabama with a +11 turnover margin. The Bulldogs are tied for the national lead with both 12 forced turnovers and one lost turnover. The Mississippi State Bulldog defense has picked off a national-best seven passes and allowed opponents only an 102 passer rating, good ....for sixth in the SEC and 21st nationally.....I'd be willing to Defensive back Darius Slay #9 of the Mississippi State Bulldogs intercepts a pass in bet a small fortune that Darius Slay has a lot to do with that success! the end zone in the fourth quarter of a NCAA college football game on September 8, 2012 at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi.
