Die doel is om te dui op hoe dié sport in populêre skrywes uitgebeeld is. Die fokus gaan val op die twee vorme van populêre geskiedskrywing in hierdie tydperk, naamlik algemene rugbygeskiedenisboeke en biografiese werke. Die manier hoe hierdie verhandeling te werk gaan, is om tendense en tematologie in hierdie werke te identifiseer en die verandering daarvan oor die jare, na te volg. Hierdie werk lê op die breekvlak tussen ’n studie van die geskiedenis en die letterkunde. Deur die gewilde rugby skrywes inhoudelik en letterkundig in fyn detail te bestudeer, gaan lig op die veranderende tendense en tematologie gewerp word. Aanhalings word deurgans ingesluit en bespreek om die ontwikkeling van die populêre rugby geskiedskrywing oor die jare te verduidelik. Deur op hierdie kompleksiteite klem te lê, poog die studie om ’n bydrae te lewer tot die steeds ontwikkelende veld van Suid- Afrikaanse sportgeskiedenis.

It is arguably the most magnificent setting at the foot of Table Mountain and Devils peak. The concept of the South African College was first formed in 1791 when the Dutch Commissioner-General, Jacob Abraham Uitenhage de Mist, asked for funding to be set aside to improve schooling in the Cape. After the British took over control of the Cape Colony its first governor, Lord Charles Henry Somerset PC, gave permission for the funds reserved by de Mist to be used to establish the South African College in 1814. It was decided in 1874 that the younger students should be separated from their older counterparts. The South African College was separated into the College which became the University of Cape Town and the College School. The College School moved to its own building on Orange Street, separate from the College, in 1896. For the next few decades, the school grew and the building became too small for the number of students attending. In 1959 the school moved to its current home in the Montebello Estate in Newlands,] former home of the mining magnate Sir Max Michaelis, after a decade-long negotiation with the Cape Administration.     Alfred Beit – Kimberley – 20 November 2017 Alfred Beit – South Africa’s financial genius Part 1 Kimberley The Right Man, in the Right Place, at the Right Time! The Man – was Alfred Beit, born in 1853, into a Jewish family in Hamburg. He was arguably the single most effective person in the transformation of Southern Africa from a sleepy dry agricultural backwater, into not one, but several modern industrial countries. But you would probably never know it – he hated publicity and preferred others to shine in the foreground. He did not set out to be a rich or powerful man. He just loved to make things happen in the most effective way to benefit as many people as possible and he relished the work involved. He was popular and attracted business like a magnet. He had an enviable reputation for generosity, integrity and fair play. Nevertheless, when he died at the age of just 53 he was possibly one the wealthiest men in the world. The place was the desert in the middle of South Africa where this boyish, fun- loving, young German arrived at the age of 22 to deal in diamonds. Kimberley is where he joined the influential French Diamond company J Porgès and Co and grew into a hugely successful organiser of and investor in mining companies as well a major diamond merchant – and became a great friend and colleague of Cecil John Rhodes.     Garden Route National Park Draft Park Management Plan For the period 2020 - 2029 1 Invitation to comment South African National Parks (SANParks) hereby provides you with an opportunity to provide information and to express your opinion, on how the Garden Route National Park (GRNP) will be managed over the next 10 years. How to make effective comments It is important to indicate those objectives and management actions you agree with as well as those with which you disagree. Each submission is important, but those that give reasons for concerns give support where appropriate and offer information and constructive suggestions are most useful. To ensure your submission is as effective as possible, please provide the following: • Make it clear and concise; • List your points according to the subject sections and page numbers in the plan; • Describe briefly each subject or issue you wish to discuss; • Say whether you agree or disagree with any or all of the aims or objectives within each subject or just those of specific interest to you – clearly state your reasons (particularly if you disagree) and provide supportive information where possible; and • Suggest alternatives to deal with issues with which you disagree.
