Thank you!” M Y “Everything was great! I'm sorry you're leaving. You have left an important mark on the development and structure of non-governmental organizations in Croatia.” CM MY “A flexible approach to the financial and professional support to NGOs; recognition of needs “as we go”, clear, unambiguous communication based on respect. Congratula- CY tions!” CMY “Who will organize conferences after AED leaves? Thank you for the support and K knowledge you have provided over the past years. Conferences and workshops were a great place for CSOs to socialize, exchange experiences, establish new contacts and cooperation. I wish luck to all AED staff in their future work, and hope that we will continue cooperating - personally or professionally. Thank you!” “Through its varied and well-adjusted grant programs, the CroNGO Program introduced new topics important for the development of civil society in Croatia, increased the capaci- ties of a large number of NGO activists and gave the chance even to small organizations. All in all, I think that the support provided by this program was among the most compre- hensive kinds of support to the development of civil society in Croatia.

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles A Thorn in the Eye: Bosnian Mixed-Ethnicity Families in a Polarized Land A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology by Hannah Keziah Conrad 2014 Copyright by Hannah Keziah Conrad 2014 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION A Thorn in the Eye: Bosnian Mixed-Ethnicity Families in a Polarized Land by Hannah Keziah Conrad Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology University of California, Los Angeles, 2014 Professor Douglas W. Hollan, Chair This dissertation draws on extensive field experience in Sarajevo between 2002-2012 to provide an intimate account of how individuals from mixed families in Bosnia today manage their sense of self and their kin relationships in the face of pressures to align themselves with a single ethno- national category. Such families, which were associated with the socialist rhetoric of “brotherhood and unity” during the Yugoslav period, came under severe pressure during the war, as the populations of entire towns fled “ethnic cleansing” and sought safety in territories controlled by their own people. Mixed families and persons continue to represent “a thorn in the eye” that troubles nationalism, unsettling national categories and insistently recalling histories of interconnection that bind the peoples of the Balkans despite war and the ravages of communal hatred. ii This work traces the repercussions of mixing, the challenging experiments with ethno- religious affiliation that face not only the marriage partners, but move through extended kin networks and profoundly influence the lives of children born into the family. Using audio and video recordings made over 12 months in 2011-2012 among 11 families in Sarajevo, the dissertation focuses on everyday family interactions—routines and conversations located in households—as a way of gaining insight into the micro-processes through which persons and identities are constituted as kin relations are enacted.

  • Vukovarskoga Kraja
JEDNO I POL STOLJEĆE U BROJČANOM RAZVOJU STANOVNiŠTVA VUKOVARA I VUKOVARSKOGA KRAJA Alica Wertheimer-Baletić Ekonomski fakultet, Zagreb UDK 314(497.5 Vukovar)"1857 I1991" Izvorni znanstveni rad Primljeno: 28. 4. 1993. U ovom članku autorica razmatra kretanje ukupnog broja stanovnika Vukovara i okolnih naselja u razdoblju od prvog modernog popisa stanovništva u Hrvatskoj (1857. godine) do zadnjeg (1991. godine). Analitička razrada obuhvaća četiri relevantna povijesno-politička razdoblja u sklopu cjelokupnog razdoblja 1857 -1991.

UNITED NATIONS S Security Council Distr. GENERAL S/1995/783 11 September 1995 ORIGINAL: ENGLISH LETTER DATED 11 SEPTEMBER 1995 FROM THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CROATIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS ADDRESSED TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL With regard to the information concerning the occupied territories of the Republic of Croatia and the implementation of paragraph 12 of Security Council resolution 820 (1993) provided in the letter dated 21 May 1993 addressed to your predecessor (S/25821), enclosed please find the updated list of settlements in the occupied territories. The revised list results from the reintegration of three out of four former United Nations Protected Area (UNPA) Sectors into the legal and administrative system of the Republic of Croatia. Consequently, the number of occupied settlements has diminished from over 1,000 to only 130. The list should serve as a reference for interested Governments with regard to the specific mandate of the Government of Croatia concerning the import to, export from and transshipment through the occupied territories of Croatia, and it in effect replaces the similar list contained in the annex to document S/25821. I would kindly request your assistance in circulating the present letter as a document of the Security Council. (Signed) Mario NOBILO Ambassador Permanent Representative 95-27523 (E) 110995 /...
