Hampton, who helped guide the Memphis in May International Festival from troubled times to financial solvency, has been named Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Mid-South Community College. Hampton performed a variety of roles during her 14 years with the iconic event and most recently served as executive vice president. During her tenure, Memphis in May generated the highest level of sponsorship and admission revenue in the organization’s 37-year history. At MSCC, Hampton will oversee the College’s Foundation and Marketing/Public Relations department. “Diane brings more than 20 years of dynamic and diverse executive-level management experience, including leadership in sponsor, donor and volunteer partnerships, communications, marketing, and public relations,” said Dr. Glen Fenter, MSCC President. Hampton said she is eager to move the college forward. “When I stepped away from Memphis in May, I felt like I had one more good job, one more challenge to pursue,” she said. “Many positive things are happening in our region, and the mission of Mid- South Community College aligns closely with my professional passions.” “I am truly excited about the possibilities at MSCC and am honored to be a part of such an excellent team. I appreciate Dr. Fenter for giving me this opportunity and look forward to helping make more great things happen at the College.” Hampton, who earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications from the University of Tennessee at Martin, started her career as a promotion director at WMC radio in Memphis. After more than five years in radio and television, Hampton accepted the Development and Marketing director position with the Easter Seal Society of West Tennessee. In 1985, Hampton returned to her radio roots as director of Marketing for WREC, WEGR, and WRXQ. She left the radio business to take a position with Memphis in May in 1998. The station had a strong influence on music, hiring musicians early in their careers, and playing their music to an audience that reached through the Mississippi Delta to the Gulf Coast. The station started the WDIA Goodwill Fund to help and empower black communities.
