Variable numbers on winter barley and floodwater at Easter Rhynd between December and mid April. Max number 112 birds and max Jun 7. On Lindores Loch 23 Feb 84 Inc 5 Juvs., and flock of 42 Mute Swans was present. Several other siahtlngs - last record 13 Apr. Several ringed birds sighted - three of which had been rlnÿed in Iceland (!K) Pink-footed Geese Flocks of severo! hundred in Threapmulr, Bankfoot, Strathearn and Tibbermore areas. In a flock of 2,500 in Bankfoot/Murthly:area 25 Feb a Brown Hare running around caused some dlsturbance (CD&ES) Spring peaks of 8,300 Strathallan late April.     Issue No 12 NEWSLETTER Friends of Perth & Kinross Council Archive Honorary Presidents: Bob Scott, Provost of Perth & Kinross Council and Sir William Macpherson of Cluny and Blairgowrie Welcome to our autumn edition of the Friends’ Newsletter. Despite the summer holidays, work has continued on the archive projects; Perth Burgh Historical Files are now being listed, as are the records of St Andrews Episcopalian Church, Strathtay. The Perth Burial Registers database now contains nearly 3500 records, and we’re talking with the experts on the best means of searching the database when it is online. Unfortunately, Alex Porter has had to withdraw from working on the Name Authority File, although John Howat has kindly taken up the baton. Alex has done tremendous work on what is a very complex task, for which we sincerely thank him. We wish him the very best and good health and hope to see him again very soon. As you will see on the back cover, our next meeting is in January, when Margaret Laing, author of Close-up on Coupar Angus and Donald Abbott, author of A Ramble in Rait will be talking about their experiences as local historians. Everyone (and their guests) are very welcome to come and spend what I am sure will be an enjoyable and informative afternoon.. Another exciting announcement is that, with the help of the Library and Archive Services, the Friends of Perth & Kinross Council Archive have their own publication coming out in the next few weeks. Our Chairman, Donald Abbott, has, over the years, written extensively about various aspects of Pitroddie in the Carse of Gowrie.

DESCRIPTION (in text form) DESCRIPTION OF SURVEY OF SCOTTISH WITCHCRAFT DATABASE INTRODUCTION The following document is a description and guide to the layout and design of the ‘Survey of Scottish Witchcraft’ database. It is divided into two sections. In the first section appropriate terms and concepts are defined in order to afford accuracy and precision in the discussion of complicated relationships encompassed by the database. This includes relationships between accused witches and their accusers, different accused witches, people and prosecutorial processes, and cultural elements of witchcraft belief and the processes through which they were documented. The second section is a general description of how the database is organised. Please see the document ‘Description of Database Fields’ for a full discussion of every field in the database, including its meaning, use and relationships to other fields and/or tables.

    THE CHURCH of SCOTLAND =================== ERROL PARISH CHURCH of SCOTLAND Registered Scottish Charity Number SC015895 ==================== A Short History for Visitors to Errol Church =============== The congregation of Errol Parish Church of Scotland is linked with the congregation of Kilspindie and Rait Parish Church of Scotland and together they are known as the Charge of Errol with Kilspindie and Rait. The Minister of the Charge is The Rev. John Macgregor, BD The second-largest settlement in the Carse of Gowrie, Errol lies on the Firth of Tay, 10 miles (16 km) east of Perth and 10 miles (16 km) west of Dundee. The Church Records show that there has been a Christian Church in the Carse of Gowrie for perhaps as long as 1500 years and from the year 1210 we have records of the many priests and ministers who served here. [see the list hanging in the Ochil Room] Over these years the church has existed in many forms and denominations from the original Celtic Church to the Roman Church and a variety of Presbyterian Churches. These various congregations used different buildings, some of which still exist as ruins, or are now being used as houses or workshops. Succeeding an earlier Parish Church in the old grave-yard, the present building, built by James Gillespie Graham in 1831-33 and modelled on a design of the English Norman Churches, is known locally as the ‘Cathedral of the Carse’. The square tower dominates the skyline from many miles away. The Church was built by a Mr. George Page, his offer for the work being £3,819 but he claimed to have lost money over the contract! Architectural features include a fine stained glass window depicting scenes from the life of Christ [can you spot the ‘mistake’ in it?], a richly carved oak pulpit – an exact replica of that of Iona Abbey, a ‘handsome’ organ and a clock in the tower installed in 1902 in memory of a former minister.
