B1ELO Executive Director Fall Is For Fishing In years gone by November fishermen were almost a total rarity. Today we find increasing numbers of anglers remaining on the streams and lakes well into November. Two of the reasons for this late fall fishing enthusiasm are the muskellunge and the coho sal mon. Probablv the fall coho run in Lake Erie has brought about the greatest single change in fish ing habits of many Western Pennsylvania anglers. Until the Commission's coho program was initiated, Erie's windswept shores were barren of late fall fishermen except for a few of the very hardiest types. Now hundreds of anglers flock to Lake Erie shores, congregating at the mouths of small tributaries such as Trout Run and Godfrey Run, casting into the often rough and unruly surf for coho. Others fish from boats with the Commission Walnut Creek access being the major launching point. In a single weekend it's not unusual for 600 fishing boats to be launched at this busy area that is now protected by large stone and steel jetties. Fall musky fishermen make a much less spectacular sight on our waterways. They usually ap pear as singles or twosomes, patiently anchored or maybe quietly drifting, waiting for the excite ment of a "hit" from a feeding muskellunge. Members of this growing group of cold weather anglers can be seen at dozens of places today. And, of course, our smallmouth bass fishing at this time of year can really make a chilly day seem much warmer. -

Wading for a Bite Fishing from shore can create a dilemma. You may not be able to cast far enough to reach some fish. One trick is wading closer. Chest waders or hip boots will help. Waders and hip boots come in two types— “stocking foot” or “boot foot.” “Boot foot” means the boot is part of the wader or hip boot. “Stocking foot” means a neoprene sock is sewn onto the wader or hip boot. A boot is laced up over top (just like putting shoes over your socks). Both work well, but stocking foot types are usually more comfortable. They are good for walking through brush, but they offer no thermal protection from cold water. If they are folded during storage, older rubber boots can leak near creases. Neoprene – Neoprene waders or boots are durable. They are great for wading in cold weather, because neoprene traps body heat but can be less comfortable to wear. Breathable fabric – Breathable fabric allows air and body moisture to pass through but blocks water. It is comfortable for all day wear but won’t trap heat like neoprene. Waders and hip boots also have different types of soles and choosing the right one can be an important decision. Felt – Felt is great on rocky bottom streams. However, walking on muddy bottom streams or muddy banks can be slippery with felt soles. -

Tickets __________________________________________________________________________________________ ► Design Guidelines Each Design Team will be comprised of up to five members plus a model. We encourage the model to be an integral part of the team and someone with your firm or manufacturer. No hired professional models. The intent of the event is to showcase your manufacturer’s product by using it in a unique and creative way. Look to media coverage of the couture and ready-to-wear fashion shows in New York, Paris, London and Milan for inspiration. Fabrication of the materials into a garment is the responsibility of the design team. We encourage your team to sew and assemble your creation using your own methods. With that said, however, you are allowed to have a seamstress outside of your team help you assemble your garment. This cost would be the responsibility of the design team. However only 10% of the entire garment can be sewn or fabricated by someone outside of your team. ► Manufacturer Guidelines The manufacturer’s only responsibility to the team is to supply the materials for the construction of the garment. The manufacturer is not required to help fabricate the garment; however, with past events, the most successful entries have featured collective collaboration between the design team and the manufacturer and pushed materials to perform in new ways. -
