Gjennom forslaget fremkommer det at departementet ønsker å heve årsgebyr for tilsyn med anslagsvis 10% understøttet av behovet for å dekke kostnadene ved tilsyn. Representantene bak denne høringsuttalelsen stiller seg ikke uforstående til at reguleringer kan være nødvendige, men mener det foreligger mangelfullt grunnlag for forslaget som er fremmet. Dette fremgår av følgende punkter; a) Redegjørelse for hvorfor tilsynet skal være selvfinansierende Gjennom siste 2 år har Jernbanetilsynet gjennomført en evalueringsprosess av tilsynsfunksjonen, hvor aktører fra bransjen har deltatt i prosessen. Et av temaene som ble løftet fra aktørene sin side knyttet seg til hvorfor Park- og Tivolitilsynet skal videreføres som et selvfinansierende tilsyn, til forskjell fra de fleste andre offentlige tilsyn. Representantene er ikke kjent med at det foreligger noe redegjørelse eller grunnlag for en slik vurdering. Det synes hensiktsmessig at man redegjør for konklusjon om hvorfor tilsynet skal videreføres som selvfinansierende, før man vurderer gebyrsatsene, da dette må kunne sees i sammenheng. b) Endringer i lovforslag om gjennomføring av tilsyn - Tivoliloven Høringsnotat for gebyrsatser er sendt ut på samme tidspunkt som det foreligger høringsnotat til en ny Tivolilov, ref. 15/5052-10. Gjennom dette lovforslaget fremgår det at tilsynet har til hensikt å gjennomføre et mer «systembasert» tilsyn.

    ACE’s Scandinavian Sojourn : A Southerner’s Perspective Story by: Richard Bostic, assisted by Ronny Cook When I went on the ACEspana trip back in 2009, it was by far one of the most amazing vacations I have ever experienced. In addition to getting to visit parks in a different culture than we see here, it is also a great opportunity to spend time with fellow enthusiasts and grow friendships while enjoying our common interests. When Scandinavia Sojourn was announced for the summer of 2011, I knew it was a trip I could not miss. Since the 2009 trip was my first trip to Europe I thought that there was no way the over- all experience could be better in Scandinavia. I was wrong. We landed in Helsinki, Finland around 1300 the day before we were required to be at the hotel to meet with the group. Helsinki is an interesting city and fairly new compared to many cities in Europe. Walking around the city you can see the Russian influence in the city’s architecture. In fact, many movies during the cold war would use Helsinki to shoot scenes that are supposed to be set in the Soviet Union. After making our way to the Crowne Plaza Hotel and getting a quick lunch at the hotel restaurant we decided to spend the remaining time that afternoon checking out some of the sites around our hotel. Some of these sites included the Temppeliaukio Church inside of a rock formation, the train station, Routatientori Square and National Theater, and a couple of the city’s art museums.

    “The Good, The Bad, The Wicked: Lessons from Oz” by Dr. Brian Howell Assistant Professor of Anthropology , Wheaton College What could be a more unambiguous, self-identified portrait of evil than a green faced Witch surrounded by creepy flying monkeys? Her very name, the Wicked Witch of the West, sets the tone pretty clearly. She’s Bad; Glinda is Good; the wizard is a bumbler but a well-intentioned guy and Dorothy is haplessly caught in the middle. But the hottest ticket on Broadway says, “Not so fast.” Perhaps having a green face and wearing unfashionable black hats is not enough to make you Wicked. In fact, perhaps “goodness” and “wickedness” are not such clear-cut categories at all. In a musical “prequel” to the film “The Wizard of Oz,” the audience is challenged to re-evaluate the judgements of good and evil, tapping into the powerful cultural theme of authenticity at the same time. The Broadway musical “Wicked” is based on a book of the same name that tells the story of Elphaba (nee The Wicked Witch of the West) and her early history in the land of Oz. Born an unnatural shade of green due to the dalliances of her mother, Elphaba is misunderstood and ostracized, particularly when enrolling in a boarding school for aspiring Witches and Wizards (Shiz Academy). There she finds herself rooming with Galinda (later to become Glinda, The Good Witch), who inspires her to travel to the Emerald City in order to meet the Wizard. Elphaba, you see, has true magical gifts, and her only dream has been to meet and work with the Wizard, the Great and Powerful Oz.

With Top Thrill Dragster costing $25 million in 2003, that certainly speaks to what is on display for this season — and beyond. In addition to the new hotel grandeur, Cedar Point has also made new upgrades and ad- ditions in several areas of the park. Hotel Breakers dates back to 1905, a time when most guests coming to Cedar Point Cedar Fair recently completed its largest investment ever at the Cedar Point Resort. IN c I N Bowling Green, Kentucky, founded in 1798, is a beautiful Southern city nestled adjacent to the Barren River and set amid the undulating foothills of south~central Kentucky. Long before Bowling Green was known as the home of Western Kentucky University, the General Motors Corvette assembly plant, the National Corvette Museum, and the birthplace of Duncan Hines of cake mix fame, the town forged a progressive but not aggressive attempt to become a community of consequence. The Civil War hampered this progress, but the march quickened after the difficult years of Reconstruction. Transportation was always an important component of this growth. Over the years, Bowling Green enjoyed access to good roads, river traffic via steamboats and barges, rail service on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, and, by the late 1930s, a developing airport. This transportation infrastructure placed Bowling Green on solid footing to benefit from the economic boom after World War II.

    Carousel Organ , Issue No. 32 — July, 2007 The McClaran/Santa Cruz Wurlitzer 165 Matthew Caulfield It is always a sad occasion when one more band organ disap- pears from its natural place in an amusement park, either from fire or neglect or — most often — by sale into a private collection. So it was very welcome news that Hayes McClaran, longtime Fresno, California, resi- dent, lately in Batesville, Indiana had sold his Wurlitzer 165 band organ to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, which is celebrating its centennial this year. Walk in the Park--Celebration of Courage event was held on April 26th at Six Flags. We are thrilled to announce that the event raised nearly $50,000 for the Aflac Cancer Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and had over 500 participants registered. Wow! Thanks to Terry, Chip and Kim for coming out to join Melinda's team. I hope that more ACErs will come out and join this great cause next year. We really had a great time at the park.
