M A N I L A 5 December 2019 THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES XYZ of Pediatric ORL - HNS Practice 3 MESSAGE Republic of the Philippines Department of Health OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY Congratulations to the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the Philippine Academy of Pediatric Otolaryngology on its 63rd Annual Convention! I am grateful for your commitment to further improve the standards in the practice of otolaryngology. Holding your event regularly and focusing on professional development in the constantly changing environment of healthcare will contribute to our aspiration for reforms in the health system, leading to better health outcomes for our countrymen. These reforms are outlined in the Philippine health sector agenda where its elements are merged with a strategic approach through the revitalized flagship program FOURmula One Plus. Through these reforms which are underpinned by the Universal Health Care Law, our health system is being made much more transparent, inclusive, and synergistic with the efforts of both public and private sector partners to ensure quality health services for all Filipinos. May this event renew your fervor to continue serving the health sector with integrity, excellence, and compassion. Mabuhay! XYZ of Pediatric ORL - HNS Practice 4 MESSAGE Warm greetings from the Philippine Medical Association! With the rapid advancement in the technology, your society has to certainly keep abreast with the trends, not forsaking the promotion of public welfare and accessible and affordable healthcare. On behalf of the PMA National Officers and Board of Governors, I congratulate the PSO-HNS and PAPO for the success of your Annual Convention 2019. Mabuhay ang PMA! Mabuhay and PSO-HNS at PAPO! XYZ of Pediatric ORL - HNS Practice 5 MESSAGE The country has a young population with around 35% falls under 15 years of age. Certain diseases of the Ears, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck are peculiar in this age group and the prevalent ailments may require a more passionate, precise and swift diagnostic and therapeutic approach because of their young age. Strong collaboration with the Pediatricians who refer such cases to Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeons is a prerequisite for successful treatment outcomes. This year's annual meeting focus on the illnesses of Filipino Children with the theme "XYZ of Pediatric ORL-HNS Practice”. Our faculty consist of international and local speakers who will share their expertise and experience in finding solutions to the dilemmas of Pediatric Otolaryngology. Accolades to the Philippine Academy of Pediatric Otolaryngology (PAPO) headed by Dr Adonis Jurado, Convention Over-all Chair and Dr. Cecilia Gretchen Navarro Locsin, Co-Chair and Trustee-in-Charge of the Annual Convention for spearheading this endeavor. One of the highlights of the event will be the launching of the Society's Child Advocacy Program entitled “FOREIGN BODY ALERT!" Warm appreciation to all the members of the Organizing Committee for the creative minds, relentless passion and time-tested resourcefulness which converged in order to stage this excellent task. Truly this is ONE PSO-HNS! Mabuhay ang PSO-HNS! DANILO A. POBLETE, MD, FPSO-HNS President, PSO-HNS XYZ of Pediatric ORL - HNS Practice 6 MESSAGE Greetings! The annual convention is the highlight of all the activities of the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The board of directors of the Philippine Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is honored to be part of this highly scientific event. We are proud to see our diplomates actively participating in this endeavor. The annual convention’s theme “XYZ of Pediatric ORL-HNS Practice” is a very important topic to discuss, considering we see a significant number of pediatric patients in our daily practice. The organizing committee headed by Drs Adonis Jurado and Gretchen Navarro - Locsin has left no stone unturned to make this event both educationally fruitful and socially enjoyable. The event also gives us the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and bond with other fellows of the society. In behalf of the board of directors, I congratulate the organizing committee. And to the foreign guests and lecturers, a warm welcome and enjoy the Filipino hospitality. See you all in EDSA Shangri-La, Manila. Mabuhay and God bless! ALFREDO QUINTIN Y. PONTEJOS, JR., MD, FPSO-HNS President, PBO-HNS XYZ of Pediatric ORL - HNS Practice 7 MESSAGE Pediatric Otolaryngology is one of the newer sub-specialties in the practice of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. In the few years of it’s existence, the field of Pediatric Otolaryngology has contributed to wide-ranging and innovative pediatric otolaryngology care, carrying out both lifesaving and life-changing procedures for children. The 63rd PSO-HNS Annual Convention with the theme ”X, Y, Z of Pediatric Otolaryngology” is an initiative that should be attended by the growing number of otolaryngologists in the country not only because of the special issues it highlights in the care of children, but also because of its perspective of collaborative work in the fields of specialized pediatric care. The convention underscores the society’s commitment to address the various needs of children with ear, nose, throat, head and neck conditions, thereby enhancing pediatric care in the Philippines. I look forward to the revitalized role of Filipino otolaryngologist in establishing structured and consistent working relationships that focus on developing new approaches for providing quality service to the Filipino children. With every body’s support, we can indeed make a difference. ADONIS B. JURADO, M.D., FPSOHNS Overall Chair, 63rd Annual Convention XYZ of Pediatric ORL - HNS Practice 8 BOARD OF TRUSTEES Danilo A. Venue & Visitor Information MUSCLECONTEST PHILIPPINES 2019 PHILIPPINES Metro Manila Manila is the capital of the Philippines and the nation's center of education, business, and transportation. Metro Manila is the most populous metropolitan region composing the city of Manila and surrounding cities like Makati, Mandaluyong, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City and Taguig. The event venue, The Tent at Acacia Estates, is in Taguig right after the airports. Hence, exploring any of the more than 7,000 islands of the Philippines via domestic air travel will be convenient. If you have a few nights to spare you may go to Palawan (El Nido, Coron, San Vicente, Port Barton are some of the most visited), Boracay, Bohol, Siargao (for surfing), etc. For day trips, you can go consider Corregidor Island, Anilao Batangas (for diving and snorkeling) Tagaytay to see Taal Volcano, Hidden Valley Springs in Laguna or Mount Pinatubo in Pampanga. Getting In The most reasonable and practical way to reach Manila is by air. Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), is the Philippines’ primary international airport with 4 terminals — Terminals 1, 2, 3, 4. Always check the Terminal of your airline as some airlines use more than one terminal. In any case, know that a free shuttle bus runs every 15 minutes to connect all 4 terminals 24 hours daily. Terminal 1 is used for most international flights such as Japan Airlines, Jetstar, China Southern, Asiana, EVA Air, Thai Airways, Korean Air, Saudia, Scoot, Alitalia, Kuwait Airways, Air China, Gulf Air, Hong Kong Airlines, Oman Air, Vietnam Airlines, etc. Terminal 2 is used by Philippine Airlines, ANA, Etihad, Turkish Airways, Air Macau, Bangkok Airways, etc.
