CollegeBound Foundation Scholarship Information CollegeBound administers over 125 privately-funded college scholarships in a portfolio valued at more than $1.5 million. CollegeBound encourages students to apply for as many awards as you desire. Please read each scholarship carefully and note the required materials. If all the required materials are not received for a particular scholarship, we cannot process the application.

CollegeBound Last Dollar Grants The CollegeBound Last Dollar Grant is a need-based award for City public high school graduates whose expected family contribution and financial aid package total less than the cost to attend college. Students who are awarded a CollegeBound Foundation Last Dollar Grant are eligible to receive a grant of up to $3,000 per year, renewable for up to five (5) years of college or the maximum amount of $15,000. These Grants are gift money that does not have to be repaid. Approximately 40 awards are given each year.

CollegeBound Travelers Edge and Urban Scholars Scholarships

CollegeBound Travelers EDGE ℠ Scholarship—One (1) or more $10,000 scholarship(s) (renewable)

Travelers EDGE ℠ Empowering Dreams for Graduation and Employment, is an innovative educational opportunity developed by Travelers Companies, Inc. This unique opportunity will provide you with the resources and support needed to enhance your degree and make you competitive in the business world. Criteria: You must attend ; be eligible for Federal and State aid; have a minimum GPA of 3.0; major in Accounting, Business/Management Information Systems, Mathematics, , Finance, Marketing, Business Administration, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or Actuarial Science.

The EDGE Program is administered through the CollegeBound Urban Scholars Program (CUSP). Career and College Major Scholarships

The Alice G. Pinderhughes Scholarship—One (1) $500 scholarship (renewable) This scholarship honors Alice G. Pinderhughes, former Superintendent of Baltimore City Public Schools, who dedicated her career to the education of Baltimore's children. Criteria: You must major in the field of education and plan to teach in grades K-12; have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; demonstrate financial need; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

The Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, III Scholarship—One (1) $1,500 scholarship (renewable) This scholarship honors Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, President of University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). He has gained national recognition for the development of the Meyerhoff Scholars Program at UMBC. Criteria: You must major in the field of mathematics and/or science/technology; have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; have a competitive SAT (CR+M) score and be accepted to and attend UMBC.

The Greater Baltimore Committee Scholarship—One (1) $1,500 scholarship (renewable) The Greater Baltimore Committee has created this scholarship to assist Baltimore City Public School graduates who are interested in pursuing a government/public policy designated degree program at . In addition to the scholarship, the Greater Baltimore Committee is also offering a summer internship with a stipend. Criteria: You must attend Towson University and major in one of the following fields: Economics, Political Science, Communications, or Metropolitan Studies; and submit an essay discussing your academic and professional goals and why education is important to you (500—1000 words; 2-4 pages).

Hilton Baltimore Convention Center Hotel Scholarship Fund—Up to fifteen (15) $3,000 scholarships (renewable) This award has been established in order to increase educational opportunities for the young people of Baltimore City. This fund will award those who are enrolled in hotel, hospitality, business and/or restaurant management programs. Criteria: You must demonstrate financial need; major in the field of hotel, hospitality, tourism, restaurant management or business. Preference is given to seniors from the National Academy Foundation high school.

Jeanette R. Wolman Scholarship—One (1) $500 scholarship (renewable) Jeanette Rosner Wolman earned her law degree in 1924 from the University of Maryland. Although admitted to the Maryland Bar Association, she campaigned for 30 years before she gained membership into the Baltimore City Bar Association which had not previously admitted minorities or women. Mrs. Wolman practiced law for 53 years with her husband in Baltimore. Criteria: You must major in the field of pre-law, social work or a field that focuses on child advocacy; and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better.

The Sheila Z. Kolman Memorial Scholarship—One (1) $1,000 scholarship (renewable) This scholarship honors Sheila Z. Kolman, former Baltimore City principal and president of the Public School Administrators and Supervisors Association of Baltimore City. This scholarship supports the efforts of Baltimore City Public School students to attend college. Criteria: You must major in the field of education or a related field and aspire to become a teacher; have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or better; demonstrate financial need; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

The Shirley E. Cooke Health Services Scholarship—One (1) $1,000 scholarship (renewable) & One (1) $1,000 scholarship (non-renewable) This award honors Shirley E. Cooke, a longtime Baltimore area health professional, who has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to public service and the empowerment of young people through education. Criteria: You must major in a health-related services area—clinical, education, or research; have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher; be accepted to a two or four year college or university; and submit an essay discussing your academic and professional goals and why education is important to you (500—1000 words; 2-4 pages). Students do not have to be Pell Grant Eligible. For renewal, students must be enrolled fulltime and maintain a 2.75 or higher GPA.

Walter Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program—One (1) or more $5,000-$15,000 scholarship(s) (renewable) This scholarship is designed to attract candidates from Baltimore City public schools interested in careers in public service and public affairs to UMBC. UMBC’s Walter Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program will guarantee a scholarship for a minimum of one Baltimore City public school student each year. The award offer will be a minimum of $5,000 per year and a maximum of $15,000 per year. Criteria: You must be accepted into UMBC and the Walter Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars Program; demonstrate a concern for the larger community and express an interest in public service and/or a public affairs career (all academic majors are eligible); and you must enroll in UMBC directly out of high school as a college freshman.

High School Scholarships

Britney C. Bownes Memorial Scholarship—One (1) $500 (non-renewable) Britney C. Bownes graduated from Carver Vocational-Technical High School in 2003. She understood the importance of a quality education and aspired to become a teacher. After a lengthy battle with cancer, she passed in 2005. Britney epitomized strength, courage and perseverance. In spite of her illness, she graduated from Carver with a certificate in childcare and completed one year of college at BCCC. This scholarship has been established to give back to the Carver community to support a student who possesses the same qualities and love for education as Britney. Criteria: You must be a senior at Carver Vocational-Technical High School, have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; submit an essay providing a “personal statement” or an essay which describes the challenges you have overcome and why you want to attend college (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages).

The CollegeBound Foundation Alumni Scholarship Award —One (1) $500 scholarship (non-renewable) The CollegeBound Foundation Alumni Scholarship Award was established by the CollegeBound Foundation Alumni Association to provide students from CollegeBound Foundation supported high schools with financial assistance. With your generous contribution, we can assist with providing opportunities. We thank you in advance for your support and look forward to your involvement with the CollegeBound Foundation Alumni Association! 1. The primary objective of the CBFAA is to foster lifelong network and goodwill among CollegeBound Scholars Program Alumni. 2. The Secondary Objective of the CBFAA is to promote communication and mentorship between the CBFAA members, CollegeBound Foundation, and current scholars. 3. The Tertiary Objective of the CBFAA is to support philanthropic and social causes directly related to either the CBFAA or the CollegeBound Scholar Program, to connect with current CollegeBound Scholars, and to celebrate kindred ideals. Dunbar Class of 1958 Scholarship—Three (3) $1,000 scholarships (non-renewable) The Dunbar Class of 1958 established this scholarship with the intention to give back to the community in which they were raised and went to school. The Class of 1958 views Dunbar as the source of their many successes, and hopes to provide financial assistance so that current graduates have the same opportunities to succeed. Criteria: You must be a senior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School; have a cumulative high school GPA of at least a 2.0; and demonstrate financial need.

Georgine Newman Edgerton Scholarship—One (1) $500 scholarship (non-renewable) This award has been created by the family of Georgine Newman Edgerton in recognition of her many accomplishments as a community activist, volunteer and advocate for the citizens of Baltimore. Criteria: You must be a senior at Frederick Douglass High School or Maritime Industries Academy High School; and demonstrate financial need.

Lewis H. Richardson, Jr.—Edmondson High School Class of 1972—One (1) $500 scholarship (non-renewable) The Edmondson High School Class of 1972 established this scholarship with the intention of giving back to the community and the environment that enabled their growth and development. Their relationship with Principal Lewis H. Richardson, Jr. was one that provided advice, counsel, leadership, discipline, encouragement, guidance and unconditional love during their years at Edmondson High School. Dr. Richardson was an educator, whose accomplishments set his career path leading him to Edmondson at a time when his unparalleled leadership style would be the catalyst for change in the lives of many students. The Baltimore Sun obituary described him as a “teacher and administrator, known as a disciplinarian who cared about his students.” It is our hope that we provide support to an aspiring educator with a commitment to educational excellence with care, concern and compassion for students. The Edmondson High School Motto, “Excellence Demands Sacrifice” is one that modeled the legacy of Lewis H. Richardson, Jr. and we are proud of his legacy in providing support to a deserving high school senior. Criteria: You must be a senior at Edmondson High School; have a cumulative high school GPA of at least a 2.5; with plans to major or minor in education; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

Mark & Patricia Rothleitner—NAF High School Scholarship—One (1) $3,000 scholarship (renewable) The Mark & Patricia Rothleitner—NAF High School Scholarship was established to help NAF High School students achieve their goal of going to and graduating from a four-year college. Mark and Patricia Rothleitner have been involved with the National Academy Foundation academies since the 1990s. They were impressed with the curriculum and practical business provided, but most of all, they were impressed over the years with the students. They have proven to be hard-working, motivated, polite and self-confident, and this scholarship is intended to help them continue their educational success. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 2.5 or better; be accepted to and attend a Maryland four- year college or university; graduate from NAF with a certificate in chosen field (Finance, Travel & Tourism, IT, etc.); preference will be given to Academy of Finance graduates and to students who are active in their communities or working part-time. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Current college students are not eligible to apply.

Paul Laurence Dunbar High School Scholarship—One (1) $500 scholarship (non- renewable) The Paul Laurence Dunbar High School Scholarship was established to provide students from Dunbar high School with financial assistance. Criteria: You must be a senior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School; be accepted to a two or four year college/university; demonstrate financial need; have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5; and submit an essay providing a “personal statement” or an essay describing why you want to attend college (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages).

Merit Scholarships

Anna and Eli Berkenfeld Memorial Scholarship—One (1) $1,000 scholarship (renewable) This scholarship honors the memory of Anna and Eli Berkenfeld by supporting the efforts of students who have demonstrated financial need to attend college. Criteria: You must have verifiable community service; have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; and demonstrate financial need.

Annabelle L. Johnson Scholarship Fund—One (1) $500 scholarship (non-renewable) Devoted to a true everyday hero that is gone but certainly not forgotten, the Annabelle L. Johnson Scholarship Fund has been established in memory of the mother of Dominic L. and Adrian S. Johnson. She was a down-to-earth mom who loved her boys unconditionally and who generously gave of herself to her family, friends and her community. She was a lifelong resident of Baltimore City. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA or better; and submit an essay providing a "personal statement" or an essay which describes the challenges you have overcome and why you want to attend college (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages).

Baltimore Distinguished Scholars Award—Two (2) $2,500 scholarships (renewable) The City of Baltimore established this scholarship program to enable Baltimore City students to continue their education on a collegiate level. This renewable scholarship is based on financial need, academic achievement and community service. To be eligible, applicants must be high school seniors who attend a Baltimore City public high school. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; demonstrate financial need (include a SAR if available); be accepted to and attend a Maryland four-year college or university; have verifiable community service; submit one (1) reference from an individual who can attest to your commitment to helping others; submit one (1) reference from a teacher, school counselor or administrator; and submit an essay describing the environment you live in, then describe the most meaningful contribution you have made as a volunteer in your community (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages). Applicants must also be US citizens or permanent residents.

Baltimore Ravens Scholarship Program—Five (5) $5,000 scholarships (renewable) At least one scholar will be chosen from each of the following areas: Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Carroll County. The established this scholarship program to enable local youth to continue their education on a collegiate level. The team has a long-standing history of service to local communities, and this fund will support those who do the same. In addition, this renewable scholarship is based on financial need and academic achievement. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; demonstrate financial need (include a SAR if available); be accepted to and attend a Maryland four-year college or university; have verifiable community service; submit one (1) reference from an individual who can attest to your commitment to helping others; submit one (1) reference from a teacher, school counselor or administrator; and submit an essay describing the environment you live in, then describe the most meaningful contribution you have made as a volunteer in your community (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages).

The Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors Charitable Foundation Scholarship—Two (2) $5,000 scholarships (renewable) One scholar will be chosen from each of the following areas: Baltimore City and Baltimore County. The Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors is pleased to provide two renewable scholarships, one to a student in Baltimore City and one to a student in Baltimore County. Their goal is to make the dream of a college degree a reality for high school seniors. Criteria: You must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

Khia “DJ K-Swift” Edgerton Memorial Scholarship—One (1) $1,000 scholarship (non- renewable) One scholar will be chosen from each of the following areas: Baltimore City or Baltimore County. Khia “DJ K-Swift” Edgerton was a well-known Baltimore DJ, successfully navigating her way into a male-dominated, fast-paced industry. At the age of 18, Khia began interning at 92Q Jams, where she was introduced as DJ K-Swift. Khia worked hard and eventually became a full-time employee, taking on the night show at 92Q. Khia demonstrated the value of hard work and the rewards of passion and commitment to the pursuit of one’s dream. In July 2008, Khia met a tragic and untimely end, but her spirit lives on through the people that loved her and her work in the music industry. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or better; submit SAT (CR+M) scores; demonstrate financial need; and submit an essay providing a "personal statement" or an essay which describes the challenges you have overcome and why you want to attend college (500- 1000 words; 2-4 pages).

Managerial and Professional Society (MAPS) of Baltimore Merit Scholarship—Three (3) $1,000 scholarships (non-renewable) The Managerial and Professional Society (MAPS) of Baltimore is pleased to support the CollegeBound Foundation in its efforts to provide students with the opportunity for a college education. MAPS has been in existence since 1973 and is the bargaining unit for managers and professional employees for Baltimore City government. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; an SAT (CR+M) score of at least 950; verifiable community service; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500- 1,000 words; 2-4 pages). Eligibility is for dues paying MAPS members and their immediate household family members. Winners will be asked to attend a MAPS quarterly meeting.

MECU, Baltimore’s Credit Union, Merit Scholarship—Five (5) $1,000 scholarships (non- renewable) MECU, Baltimore’s Credit Union, is pleased to support the CollegeBound Foundation in its efforts to provide students with the opportunity for a college education. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; an SAT (CR+M) score of at least 950; verifiable community service; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500- 1,000 words; 2-4 pages). Winners must attend a MECU reception and will receive a complimentary credit union membership.

The Richard E. Dunne, III Scholarship—One (1) $1000 scholarship (renewable) Richard E. Dunne, a partner with the law firm of Hogan & Hartson (now known as Hogan Lovells US LLP), tragically died in an airplane crash on Thanksgiving Day, 1997. An active supporter of and volunteer for the CollegeBound Foundation, learning and doing were key to Rich's approach to life. His good humor and commitment challenged and inspired his family, his friends and his colleagues alike to make the most of every opportunity. This scholarship honors that commitment by helping to provide qualified Baltimore City Public School students with an opportunity that they might otherwise not have—to attend college. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; have verifiable community service and must attend a Maryland college or university.

The Theresa Holland Merit Scholarship—One (1) $1,000 scholarship (non-renewable) This award was established to assist seniors from Baltimore City Public Schools to continue their education on a collegiate level. Criteria: You must graduate in the top 20th percentile of your graduating class; attend a 2 or 4 year Maryland college or university; submit your SAT scores and high school transcript; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

The Walter G. Amprey Scholarship—One (1) $1,000 scholarship (non-renewable) Walter G. Amprey, former Superintendent of Baltimore City Public Schools, dedicated his career to educating children. This scholarship honors him and supports the efforts of Baltimore City public school students to attend college. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; and demonstrate financial need. Community Service Scholarships

The Baltimore Rotary Service Above Self Award Program—Four (4) $1,000 to $1,500 scholarships (non-renewable) The emphasis of these awards is on good deeds—what the young person does for others without the slightest thought of any kind of reward. Examples of community service include volunteer participation in a neighborhood or school program, service club, or social agency. The student must also display leadership qualities and maintain good grades. Criteria: You must have verifiable community service; have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or better; submit an essay describing the environment you live in, then describe the most meaningful contribution you have made as a volunteer in your community (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages); and be accepted into an institution of higher learning. Finalists will be asked to participate in an interview. Award recipients must attend an award luncheon.

The David W. Young Book Award—One (1) $500 scholarship (non-renewable) This award is named in honor of David W. Young, retired Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge. This book award supports the efforts of Baltimore city public high school students to attend college. Criteria: You must have verifiable community service; have a cumulative 2.0 GPA or better; submit an essay describing the environment you live in, then describe the most meaningful contribution you have made as a volunteer in your community (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages); and be accepted into an institution of higher learning.

The Exchange Club of Baltimore Scholarship—Two (2) $2,500 scholarships (non- renewable) The Exchange Club of Baltimore is a community service club whose mission focuses on the children of Baltimore City. In 1980, the Exchange Club created the Child Abuse Prevention Center, which has merged with Parents Anonymous to form The Family Tree. The group also supports and contributes to the William S. Baer School to help purchase equipment and teaching materials for severely handicapped children. Criteria: You must have verifiable community service; attend a college or university located in Maryland; have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; an SAT (CR+M) score of at least 1000; demonstrate financial need; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500- 1,000 words; 2-4 pages). Finalists will be asked to participate in an interview. Award recipients must attend an award luncheon.

The Joyce A. Kroeller Memorial Scholarship—One (1) $1,500 scholarship (renewable) This scholarship honors Joyce Anne Kroeller, the founding Executive Director of the CollegeBound Foundation. During her 10-year tenure, she built CollegeBound into a well- endowed and enormously effective program enabling hundreds of Baltimore City public school students to attend college. She believed passionately in the power of higher education to improve lives. Intensely committed to public service, she worked on behalf of women and children who were abused as well as those who suffered from poverty. She was also an advocate for victims of Alzheimer’s disease. Joyce died of melanoma on June 4, 2007 at the age of 57. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is planning a public service career and thus will emulate her legacy. Criteria: You must have verifiable community service; have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or better; demonstrate financial need; submit at least one (1) reference from an individual who can attest to your commitment to helping others; submit an essay describing the environment you live in, then describe the most meaningful contribution you have made as a volunteer in your community (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages); and be accepted to and attend a Maryland four-year college or university.

Kahdine Ann DaCosta Scholarship for Excellence in Leadership—Two (2) $1,000 scholarships (non-renewable), in subsequent years, $250 annual book grant (renewable) This scholarship is open to scholars from: Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County. Kahdine Ann DaCosta was the first in her family to go to college. While attending , she realized that having the money to attend college was not enough, she also needed mentoring. On October 15, 2011, on what would have been Kahdine’s 34th birthday, I AM O’Kah! Inc. established this scholarship in honor of Kahdine’s commitment to service and dedication to leadership. In addition to the monetary award, students are provided mentoring, support and training in entrepreneurship and financial literacy in order to succeed and flourish through college and beyond. Criteria: Eligible students must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or better; demonstrate financial need; and submit an essay providing a "personal statement" which describes the challenges they have overcome and why they want to attend college (500-1000; 2-4 pages).

The Leslie Moore Foundation Scholarship—Three (3) $2,500 scholarships (renewable) One scholar will be chosen from each of the following areas: Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Howard County. This scholarship honors Leslie Moore and supports the efforts of well- rounded students to attend college. Criteria: You must have verifiable community service; have a cumulative 2.0 GPA or better; submit an essay describing the environment you live in, then describe the most meaningful contribution you have made as a volunteer in your community (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages); and be accepted to and attend a 2 or four-year college or technical school. Finalists must be available to interview with the selection committee. Award recipients must attend the annual Leslie Moore Scholarship Foundation dinner.

Carmen V. D’Anna Memorial Scholarship of the Mars Super Market Educational Fund— One (1) scholarship up to $10,000 (renewable) The D’Anna family, owners of Mars Super Markets, created this scholarship in memory of Carmen V. D’Anna to support the efforts of Baltimore City public school students to attend college. Criteria: You must be accepted to and attend a Maryland four-year public state college or university; demonstrate financial need; exhibit a strong desire to achieve; and submit an essay providing a "personal statement" or an essay which describes the challenges you have overcome and why you want to attend college (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages).

Hy Zolet Student Athlete Scholarship—Four (4) $1,000 scholarships (renewable) This award was created to honor and celebrate the life and accomplishments of Hy Zolet, a high school and college athlete. All who came into contact with Hy, and his love of life, integrity, work ethic and unsung hero mentality, walked away a better person for knowing him. Through this scholarship, we will strive to identify men and women who exemplify the qualities that Hy exhibited every day. Lorenzo Felder Scholarship—One (1) $1,500 scholarship (non-renewable) The Lorenzo Felder Scholarship, awarded by the ONOSE, is intended to support the efforts of an African American male who is graduating from a Baltimore City public school. Lorenzo Felder was a founding member of the ONOSE, a local organization of African American men focused on social endeavors. Lorenzo sought to elevate our mission by not only paying back our social obligations but serving our community. In the spirit of giving back to our younger generation, the ONOSE seek to support the college efforts of a “rising scholar.” Criteria: You must be an African-American male; be a graduate from a Baltimore City public school; have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better; have demonstrated financial need; have verifiable community service or extracurricular activity; and submit an essay describing the environment you live in, then describe the most meaningful contribution you have made as a volunteer in your community (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages).

Morgan State University Martin D. Jenkins Scholarship—One (1) full tuition, fees, room & board award (renewable) Morgan State University is pleased to reserve one Honors Program Jenkins Scholarship for a CollegeBound scholar. Jenkins Scholars will receive an award for all billed expenses plus up to $500 per semester for books and a laptop computer. Morgan State University Frederick Douglass Scholarship—One (1) tuition and fees scholarship (renewable) Morgan State University is pleased to reserve one Honors Program Douglass Scholarship for a CollegeBound scholar. Douglass Scholars will receive an award for tuition and fees plus $250 per semester for books and a laptop. Criteria: You must be accepted to and attend Morgan State University; meet all honors college admittance and renewal criteria, including a minimum 3.3 high school GPA, and a 1200 CR/M score on the SAT or a 24 composite score on the ACT assuming the student has been classified as a Maryland resident.

Morgan State University Foundation Scholarship—Three (3) $2,500 scholarships (renewable) The Morgan State University Foundation, funded by MSU alumni and philanthropists, is pleased to award three scholarships for CollegeBound scholars. Criteria: You must be accepted to and attend Morgan State University; have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA, and a 900 CR/M score on the SAT or a 19 composite score on the ACT. Scholarship recipients must attend a scholarship luncheon in the spring.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland Matching Scholarship—Matching scholarships of up to $3,000 (renewable) St. Mary’s, Maryland’s public honors college, is pleased to match the competitive scholarships and Last Dollar Grants awarded to CollegeBound Foundation students. Established to honor the memory of Al Sanders to celebrate his career with WJZ-TV and share his love of music, this scholarship is designated for student graduating from a public high school in Baltimore City or County with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, who intend to major in music and pursue a career in music after graduation from college. Arthur W. Elder, II Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $1,250 (non-renewable) Established in memory of Arthur W. Elder II, a 1974 graduate of the former Lake Clifton High School, this scholarship is for a student who may not have lived up to his or her full potential in high school, but who wishes to pursue higher education. Preference will be given to students graduating from Heritage High School, but this scholarship is open to students from any public high school in Baltimore City who has participated in high school athletics or other extra- curricular activities. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or better; submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages); priority will be given to students from Heritage High School.

The Baltimore City Retired Public School Employees Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $1,000 (non-renewable) Created by the Association of Baltimore City Retired Public School Employees, this scholarship is for students graduating from a public high school in Baltimore City who intend to pursue a career in teaching. Students must plan to enroll as a degree candidate in a two-year or four-year college in Maryland. Criteria: You must major in the field of education and plan to teach in grades K-12; have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or better; attend a 2 or 4 year college or university in Maryland; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

The Baltimore Community Foundation Scholarship for Young Civic Leaders— One (1) award up to $3,000 (renewable) A scholar will be chosen from Baltimore City or Baltimore County. The BCF Scholarship for Young Civic Leaders supports young people who have demonstrated leadership throughout their high school career and have contributed to the improvement of their school, neighborhood, and broader community. Specifically, the scholarship will be awarded to students who have demonstrated leadership in civic engagement. We are looking for the student who did more than attend meetings or received services; competitive applicants are students who were engaged in developing ideas, implementing plans, recruiting other young people, or leading a charge. Charles R. “Dick” Ward Scholarship at BCF—Two (2) awards up to $5,000 (renewable) Honors Dick Ward, who attended high school in the late 1940's. Dick was a highly decorated athlete who also understood the importance of education. In his years as a business owner in South Baltimore, he established himself as a community leader and mentor. This scholarship is designated for Digital Harbor High School students who have participated in the Building STEPS Program in their junior and senior years and ranked in the top 15% of their class. Applicants should demonstrate leadership qualities through extracurricular activities or community service. Criteria: You must be a senior at Digital Harbor High School; be in the top 15% of your class; participate in the Building Steps program; demonstrate financial need; and submit an essay describing the environment you live in, then describe the most meaningful contribution you have made as a volunteer in your community (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages).

The Christa McAuliffe Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $2,500 (non-renewable) Scholars will be chosen from the following areas: Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Carroll County or Howard County. Established to honor the ideals and memory of teacher/astronaut Christa McAuliffe, this scholarship is designated for aspiring teachers. The scholarship is open to students who plan to attend an accredited Maryland college or university with an approved teacher education program, planning to pursue a teaching career in the State of Maryland. Digital Harbor High School College Scholarship at BCF—Up to twenty (20) awards worth up to $3,500 (non-renewable) Established by residents of the South Baltimore Peninsula, this scholarship is for students graduating from Digital Harbor High School who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate financial need and plan to attend a two or four-year school or enroll in a community college certificate program. Criteria: You must be a senior at Digital Harbor High School or graduate from Digital Harbor currently enrolled fulltime at a college or university; have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0; demonstrate financial need; plan to attend a two or four-year school or enroll in a community college certificate program; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500- 1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

Ercole Nursing Family Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $3,000 (renewable) A scholar will be chosen from Baltimore City or Baltimore County. Established in 2011 for aspiring nurses by the Stephanie and Erwin Greenberg Fund and named in honor of Mrs. Maureen Ercole and her daughters, all of whom are nurses. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; demonstrate financial need; show participation in community service projects or volunteer activities; intend to complete a LPN, RN or BS/RN degree in nursing at an accredited two or four-year college or university; and submit an essay describing the environment you live in, then describe the most meaningful contribution you have made as a volunteer in your community (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages).

Harry Z. Isaacs Scholarship at BCF—Two (2) awards up to $6,000 (non-renewable) Established by the late Harry Z. Isaacs, this scholarship is for the children of employees of I.C. Isaacs & Company and for graduates of Baltimore City public high schools. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages). Priority will be given to applicants who have a parent or guardian who is currently employed by I.C. Isaacs & Company and its subsidiaries.

Legg Mason’s College Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $20,000 (renewable) This scholarship was established by Legg Mason Global Asset Management to provide a full tuition scholarship for eligible Baltimore City public high school graduates who wish to pursue their education at a four-year public institution in the state of Maryland.

Maggie Feiss Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $5,000 (renewable) The Maggie Feiss Scholarship was created in memory of Maggie Feiss by her family. Maggie worked hard for and cared deeply about Baltimore in her short but brilliant life. This scholarship was created in celebration of Maggie’s spirit, energy, and impatience for change in a troubled world. An award of up to $5,000, for up to 4 years, is intended for a young woman graduating from a Baltimore City public school who demonstrates financial need and who intends to complete a 4 year degree. The award can be used for tuition, books, fees and, when available, for a paid summer internship facilitated through the student’s school. Criteria: You must be female attending a 4 year college or university; demonstrate financial need; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

Mildred M. Coughlin Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $2,000 (non-renewable) Named for a former principal of Western High School, this scholarship is for young women graduating from Western High School. Criteria: You must be a senior at Western High School in Baltimore City; you must be a female; have a cumulative high school GPA of at least a 3.0; demonstrate financial need; attend a 4 year liberal arts college or university; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500- 1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

The Patricia Likakis Scholarship Fund at BCF—One (1) award up to $2,500 (renewable) The purpose of The Patricia Likakis Scholarship Fund is to provide a scholarship of up to $2,500, for up to four years, for a child of a single-mother family graduating from Towson High School with a 'B' average or better who demonstrates financial need. Criteria: You must have a “B” average or better; demonstrate financial need; be a child of a single mother family from attending Towson High School; and submit an essay providing a "personal statement" or an essay which describes the challenges you have overcome and why you want to attend college (500-1000 words; 2-4 pages).

The Stephanie and Erwin Greenberg Success Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $2,500 (renewable) A scholar will be chosen from Baltimore City or Baltimore County. This scholarship is designated for students who wish to pursue a certificate or associates degree program leading toward a specific vocation. It is open to students who have been active in their community and intend to complete a certificate or degree program from an accredited community college in the State of Maryland. Criteria: You must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better; demonstrate financial need; attend a Maryland Community College; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500- 1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

Walther H. Feldmann Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $2,000 (non-renewable) Established in honor of William R. King, a former principal of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, this scholarship is for students enrolled at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute who are in the top 25% of their graduating class of the "A" Course curriculum. Applicants must have demonstrated leadership qualities at school. Criteria: You must be in the top 25% of the graduating class and participate in the "A" Course curriculum; you must attend Baltimore Polytechnic Institute; and submit an essay describing your academic and professional goals, why you have chosen them and what you have done to prepare yourself thus far (500-1,000 words; 2-4 pages).

The WJZ-TV Jerry Turner Broadcast Scholarship at BCF—One (1) award up to $2,500 (non- renewable) Scholars will be chosen from the following areas: Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Carroll County or Howard County. Established to honor the memory of Jerry Turner and celebrate his career in broadcast journalism at station WJZ-TV channel 13 in Baltimore, this scholarship is designated for Maryland residents graduating who plan to seek a degree in broadcast journalism from an accredited four-year college or university. Criteria: You must major in broadcast journalism; have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; and submit an essay discussing your academic and professional goals and why education is important to you (500—1000 words; 2-4 pages).
