Standard Chartered unveils online platform

Nairobi, Tuesday 6th November 2018...Standard Chartered Bank , in partnership with General Insurance, today launched a Mobile platform that will enable its clients to purchase motor and home insurance via the existing Bank’s Mobile App. The move is aimed at simplifying insurance procurement by introducing an end to end digital process thus considerably reducing the turnaround time to minutes. Speaking during the launch of the platform, Standard Chartered Bank CEO Mr Lamin Manjang said the Standard Chartered Insurance Agency Ltd, underwritten by Sanlam Kenya, will allow clients to complete automobile insurance purchase from the comfort of their home or office.

“This digital proposition enables our customers in Kenya to purchase motor and home insurance offered in collaboration with Sanlam in a fast and simple way directly from the SC Mobile App. The mobile application offers a true end-to-end customer experience including payment and receipt of the insurance policy in just a few minutes,” said Mr. Manjang. Clients will complete the entire application digitally, upload required documents, receive quotes for the policy and make premium payment, all within the Mobile App. Clients will receive the relevant policy documents same day by email while the motor insurance sticker will be available immediately at the client’s preferred branch.

Mr. Manjang said Standard Chartered will continue to redefine the future of banking by introducing new wealth management features. Early this year the Bank introduced video advisory capability that enables clients to review investment propositions via video conferencing.

Said Mr. Manjang: “Bancassurance is one of the alternative distribution channels that must be embraced to boost insurance penetration. Just as we have witnessed commendable uptake in online banking, we are optimistic that adoption of digital channels will be instrumental in driving insurance business in Kenya.”

On his part, Sanlam General Insurance CEO, Mr George Kuria, said the firm is keen to extract value through technological innovations and solutions which increase ease of use and choice for current and potential clients.

“At Sanlam General Insurance, we are celebrating the launch of the general insurance feature on the Standard Chartered App, which will improve customer experience through technology. This, dovetails with our overall corporate strategy to deliver and distribute our products on contemporary channels such as mobile and related ICT platforms, while enhancing collaboration with business partners,” said Kuria.

Through the Standard Chartered Insurance Agency Ltd, the Bank offers General Insurance and Life Insurance products which include Endowment Policies, Education Policies, Funeral Plans, Personal Accident Insurance and Credit Protection Insurance.
