Biathlon Canada provides money for cups in Canada. 2011 WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES Erzurum, Turkey January 27 – February 6, 2011 • Coach Joan Skinstad, with Hans Skinstad as Wax tech • 4 Men (Johnny Forward, Jamie Robb, Jon Skinstad, Kai Skinstad) and 4 Women (Lauren Brookes, Kat Stone, Betsy Mawdsley, Jenny Paterson)represented Canada • Selections were held last season at nationals(2010) as well as at the first NAC in Canmore (2010) •15th overall placing within the 25 Nations present even with the flu that affected a number of the teams during the event. • Benefit to those attending of experience in international event • Suggestions: – Name the coaches earlier who then can assist with deadlines to paperwork and travel arrangements – Add another coach to the trip (Slovenia 2013) or offer as an ICE assignment – Take a full compliment of athletes if possible

Ind, Sprint, Pursuit, Relay • Snow base excellent, well groomed course, rain only on last day • Timing building on site appreciated , Trailers for teams, large meeting tent for volunteers, and teams. Excellent area for media with good coverage by TV and newspaper during the event. Excellent accommodations for all attendees. • TD suggestions – Combine daily competition to mornings will assist athletes to see other sports and to recover. Supporting fellow team members important for athletes attending. – Transportation and food service still needs oversight to benefit the athletes and the volunteer officials during the event week – Check all equipment well before the event to make sure everything is in place and doesn’t need to be replaced or corrected. Run a test event on site before the CWG to ensure everyone is prepared. – Assign a TD early to assist the OC and bring continuity with lessons learned from previous games.

Lack of numbers during the week delayed set up for event

COACHING PROGRAMS • All development work on Competition Introduction is complete with 7 instructors • Work on Competition Development (replacement for Level 3 Technical) continued •One Comppppetition Development mini pilot was held • Seven coaching education seminars were held at the Easterns, Westerns,& Canadian Championships. • Change of office personnel and Coaching Chair stalled some of the work in progress this season. • CAC database still delayed while upgrade of website in progress • CAC continues to be a major funder of our coaching programs

SPDP (cont.)

• A total of 31 clubs from 10 divisions have benefited from this program over the period of 7 years with $270,000 distributed. • Biathlon Canada allocated $20,000 in Sport Development Funding for 2010-2011. We received 11 applications and 5 Clubs were selected by the DWG to receive a $4,000 grant. All programs were well implemented in all clubs and the SPDP objectives were also met for all clubs who have received the grant. • Biathlon Canada allocated $10,000 to 10 clubs of $1,000 each to host demo days this winter taking advantage of the interest in biathlon after the 2010 Olympics • Two Bears Leaders courses were subsidized by Biathlon Canada in two different locations. Vernon BC and Falcon Lake MB. A total of 15 new Bears Leaders were qualified with 6 in BC and 9 in MB.
