GREGORY EUCLIDE 1543 A Wazee Street Denver, CO 80202 tel: 303.893.4234 davidbsmithgallery.com I first exhibited Gregory Euclide at the David B. Smith Gallery in our inaugural exhibition in February, 2007. Since that time, I have been fortunate to work closely with Gregory, and observe his creative process firsthand. He has attracted attention for his complex installations, unusual dioramas, and intricate and surprising sculptures. His ideas concerning the landscape — the conflict between the real and the ideal, and between pristine nature and the inevitable impact of an inhabited world — are executed with vision and perspective. What makes Euclide’s work so attractive and so compelling is the way he uses both paint and multiple media to express his ideas. His painting is impressive — detailed and executed with great skill. But it is the way he integrates this work into unique and intriguing relief pieces that particularly challenges the viewer to engage in a dialogue about the work. Through an unusually creative use of both natural and synthetic materials, Euclide transports his viewers into the world that he has created. He examines the culture in which we live, questioning how we can simultaneously preserve the environment while maintaining the benefits of a modern lifestyle. Euclide’s world is an extension of his early experiences outdoors, time spent both alone and with his family. He developed an extraordinary ability to observe and create, to evolve his ideas on location, and bring back remnants of organic treasures and weathered waste to use in his works. He is an artist who thrives in nature, and carries his love back into the studio where he puts his thoughts to paper to make landscape art fresh and engaging.

  • Bon Iver (Usa)
BON IVER (USA) 22, A Million Label: Jagjaguwar Release Date: 30.09.2016 Web: www.boniver.org EPK: irascible.ch/de/releases/bon-iver/22-a-million Bon Iver - the musical project led by Justin Vernon - will release its third studio album «22, A Mil- lion». The album is part love letter; part final resting place of two decades of searching for self- understanding like a religion - and the inner-resolution of maybe never finding that understanding. The album’s 10 poly-fi recordings are a collection of sacred moments: love’s torment and salva- tion, contexts of intense memories, signs that you can pin meaning onto or disregard as coinci- dence. If «Bon Iver, Bon Iver» built a habitat rooted in physical spaces, then «22, A Million» is the letting go of that attachment to a place. To narrow this album down to the next step within an «artistic career» would be to miss a far grander purpose of this music—or any music for that matter—and the cultures of friendship that sustain us in our capacities to even play music. Although «22, A Million» emerges from a swirling context of transformation in Justin’s recent life, it is based on how we have always approached what music can be or do. It is not the perceived power of money and fame that will change the course of events in one’s life, but empathy. Music is a pathway that allows us to listen to our- selves and the people that surround us. Music, even in its most intimate moments, is a pathway between us all.

  • Album Review: Bon Iver's 22, a Million
Album Review: Bon Iver’s 22, a Million 22, a Million, the newest album by American indie folk band Bon Iver, leaves the listener with an overarching question: Is there any border left between acoustic and electronic music? Although ambiguous as to which category it falls into, Bon Iver manages to respect both genres with a rich, homogenous mixture of experimental and traditional instrumentation. However, the album is a motley of songs that—both individually and as a group—build to nowhere, like a fleeting thought that crosses the mind at one point, but leaves no lasting impression. Founded in 2007 by singer/songwriter Justin Vernon, Bon Iver has been the vanguard of the indie folk/experimental genre. Vernon—a Wisconsin native with deep ties to the American wilderness—is undeniably influenced by a guitar-and-voice acoustic sound that is reminiscent of childhood campfires, roasting s’mores, and long silences between experienced fishermen. Tracks like “29 #Strafford APTS” and “00000 Million” have obvious connections to the folk genre: banjo, acoustic guitar, three and four-part vocal harmonizing, and chatter and laughter among musicians before the start of the song. These elements anchor the album, preventing it from straying too far from the group’s previous releases. During the five-year gap between the album Bon Iver and 22, a Million, Bon Iver evidently delved into the uncharted territory of experimental music. The use of synthesizers, vocal filtration, extensive sampling, and static-ridden beats establishes a distinctive atmosphere of digital haziness, a complementary frame for Vernon’s midwestern accent-tinged voice.

  • Ani Difranco – Revolutionary Love Biography
Ani DiFranco – Revolutionary Love Biography The transcendent new album from Ani DiFranco, Revolutionary Love marks the latest proof of one of her most powerful gifts as an artist: a rare ability to give voice to our deepest frustrations and tensions, on both a personal and political level. “My songs have always reflected an acute connection between my personal life and the life of my society,” says the trailblazing musician and activist. “As I started to come out of dealing with years of personal hardship, I saw that my entire country was struggling with the same problems: the same themes of how much damage we do to each other and how much pain we’re carrying, and the same question of how to keep going when we’re so broken.” As her 22nd studio album in an iconic career—one that’s included winning a Grammy and countless other accolades, collaborating with legends like Prince, and breaking ground as one of the first artists to launch her own label, Righteous Babe Records— Revolutionary Love first began taking shape in the final weeks of winter 2020. After returning from a West Coast tour with a new batch of songs she’d written on the road, DiFranco laid down those tracks at her New Orleans home studio with bassist Todd Sickafoose and drummer Terence Higgins (her longtime touring bandmates), but then felt compelled to keep on writing. Before long, she’d amassed a body of work whose urgency felt undeniable. “I suddenly decided I need to push this record out by fall,” she recalls.

Now their 6-year romantic relationship is put to the test when Dan receives an attractive job offer from the record label with whom he interns, and he must choose between a move forward and a future with Mel. Growth and temptation happen – but will their relationship remain part of their future? Writer/director Hannah Fidell explores the struggles of young love as it begins to face the next steps into adulthood. Taissa Farmiga and Ben Rosenfield give warm, genuine performances as Mel and Dan, alongside Lindsay Burdge (star of Fidell’s A TEACHER) as a colleague of Dan’s who entices him in more ways than one. (for those of you who are married to that first person...please ignore…) More than anything though, I modeled Dan and Mel’s world on my group of friends in college. Although, the fighting and the physical violence, that was pure fiction. The script was in great hands with Taissa and Ben.
