Kuac Pbs Kids 24/7 Services
KUAC PBS KIDS 24/7 SERVICES OVERVIEW PBS has launched new free 24/7 multiplatform children’s services. Provided by local stations, the free services include a new TV channel, a live stream on digital platforms and an interactive gaming feature, which will debut later in 2017. Together, these new services support KUAC’s mission to reach all children with high-quality educational content. These new services offer the very best child and parent experience, increasing access to award-winning PBS KIDS content, especially for those who need it the most, when it is most convenient. Starting June 5, 2017 KUAC will broadcast PBS KIDS shows 24 hours a day on KUAC 9.5 and offer a live stream, making it easy for children to watch their favorite series during primetime and other after-school hours when viewing among children is high. Viewers can watch the station-branded live stream through pbskids.org and on the PBS KIDS Video App, which is available on a variety of mobile devices and tablets. On-demand clips and full episodes continue to be available for free on the PBS KIDS Video App and pbskids.org. Streaming on pbskids.org accounts for over a third of all time spent watching kids videos online and the site is #1 in the kids’ category for total views and minutes spent.i Across digital platforms, PBS KIDS averages 363.2 million streams per month.ii Later this year, the live stream experience will expand to offer an integrated games feature, enabling children to toggle between a PBS KIDS show and an activity that extends learning – all in one seamless digital experience. -

Local Information Programming and the Structure of Television Markets Federal Communications Commission Media Ownership Study #4 Jack Erb* Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis Federal Communications Commission Email: [email protected] May 20, 2011 Abstract: We analyze the relationship between the ownership structure of television markets and the amount of local news and public affairs programming provided in the market (at both the overall market and individual station levels). We find that commercial television stations that are cross-owned with major newspapers in the same market tend to air more local news programming, but that the station-level increase does not translate into more local news programming at the market level. Television-radio cross-ownership has a moderate (but statistically significant) positive impact on local information programming at the station level, and each additional in-market radio station controlled by the television station owner corresponds to additional local news minutes aired by the television station. However, local news programming at the market level is likely to be lower, as the scale economies enjoyed by the cross-owned stations are outweighed by the crowding out of local news programming on other stations. Multiple ownership (i.e., situations in which a single parent controls two or more stations in the same market) does not appear to impact the amount of local information programming at either the market or station level (though this result appears somewhat dependent upon model specification). But we do find that multiple ownership and broadband subscribership have a positive impact on the relative mix of local vs. -

The merger of equals creates a center for public media innovation and creativity that serves the more than 18 million people living in the Southern California region. The name of the new organization will be announced with the closing of the merger, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2018. Establishing a powerful PBS flagship organization on the West Coast, the historic union of these two storied institutions creates the opportunity to produce more original programs for multiple channels and platforms that address the diverse community in Southern California and the nation, and innovate new community engagement experiences that educate, inform, entertain, and empower. Jazz and Radio in the United States: Mediation, Genre, and Patronage Aaron Joseph Johnson Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2014 © 2014 Aaron Joseph Johnson All rights reserved ABSTRACT Jazz and Radio in the United States: Mediation, Genre, and Patronage Aaron Joseph Johnson This dissertation is a study of jazz on American radio. The dissertation's meta-subjects are mediation, classification, and patronage in the presentation of music via distribution channels capable of reaching widespread audiences. The dissertation also addresses questions of race in the representation of jazz on radio. A central claim of the dissertation is that a given direction in jazz radio programming reflects the ideological, aesthetic, and political imperatives of a given broadcasting entity. I further argue that this ideological deployment of jazz can appear as conservative or progressive programming philosophies, and that these tendencies reflect discursive struggles over the identity of jazz. The first chapter, "Jazz on Noncommercial Radio," describes in some detail the current (circa 2013) taxonomy of American jazz radio. The remaining chapters are case studies of different aspects of jazz radio in the United States. Chapter 2, "Jazz is on the Left End of the Dial," presents considerable detail to the way the music is positioned on specific noncommercial stations. Chapter 3, "Duke Ellington and Radio," uses Ellington's multifaceted radio career (1925-1953) as radio bandleader, radio celebrity, and celebrity DJ to examine the medium's shifting relationship with jazz and black American creative ambition. -

BUDGET UNIT BRIEF – FY 2022 Fiscal Services Division July 1, 2021 Ground Floor, State Capitol Building Des Moines, Iowa 50319 515.281.3566 Iowa PBS Purpose and History Iowa PBS is Iowa's statewide public broadcasting network. The organization’s mission is to present an unequaled array of programs of lasting value to Iowans regardless of where they live or what they can afford. Iowa PBS changed its name from Iowa Public Television (IPTV) in 2020. Iowa Public Television began in 1967 when the State Educational Radio and Television Facility Board was created and charged with developing a State network to broadcast educational programs. The Board was composed of nine members selected in the following manner: three members appointed by the State Board of Regents, three members appointed by the State Board of Education, and three members appointed by the Governor, with at least one member from a private four-year college or university. The Board’s name was changed in 1983 to the Iowa Public Broadcasting Board. The membership now includes: • Four citizen representatives appointed by the Governor, including representation from the business community, the television industry, and the Friends of Iowa PBS/Iowa PBS Foundation (see below). • Five members representing the private colleges and universities, the community colleges, the area education agencies, the Board of Regents, and the Board of Education. In 1982, the IPTV Foundation Board was established to solicit and manage gifts of money and property and to make grants and gifts to Iowa PBS. Also established around this time was Friends of IPTV, an organization established to solicit smaller donations from the general public to benefit Iowa PBS.
