Sydney: The Solution

11 The Challenge

Sydney’s infrastructure is challenged by significant population growth and increasing land pressures. The Solution: The Tomorrow’s Sydney programme is preparing the city for this large- scale change through planning and investments to improve transport Travel Choices infrastructure. The first stage includes the construction of a new Light Rail Transit that requires the closure of a one of the major roads in the CBD and thus re-routing of its traffic.

Travel Choices

Travel Choices is a travel demand management (TDM) behaviour change project that seeks to influence customers’ travel behaviours in order to manage disruption to the transport network and achieve sustainable long-term changes in travel behaviour.

It is designed to communicate transport network changes for people living, working and visiting in Sydney. The tailored engagement programme, enables businesses and commuters to plan alternate journeys across the city.

The programme aims to relieve pressure spots throughout Sydney’s transport networks and encourage more active and sustainable approaches to travel in the CBD by promoting greener transport modes.

The objective is to reduce car driving within the CBD to a level that allows the network to continue to operate to at least as well as prior to construction.
