FERTILIER MANAGEMENT PLAN DESIGNWORKSHOP 1. Provide a Topsoil Analysis: Prior to any planting or fertilizer Landscape Architecture • Land Planning application, a soil analysis shall be conducted by a qualified soil-testing laboratory. Soils that have been stockpiled on site shall be Urban Design • Tourism Planning evaluated for their suitability for supporting plant growth. Supplement with imported or manufactured topsoil from off-site sources when Aspen • Austin • Beijing • Chicago • Denver quantities are insufficient. Topsoil shall be amended with state Dubai • Houston • Los Angeles • Lake Tahoe recommended quantities of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash nutrients to produce satisfactory topsoil. 2. Planting Preparation: Loosen subgrade of planting beds and lawn P.O. Box 5666 A areas to a minimum of 6 inches. Spread amended topsoil to a depth 128 Market Street, Suite 3E of 6 inches for planting and lawn areas. For trees and shrub areas, Stateline, Nevada 89449-5666 excavate at least 12 inches wider than the root ball, then fill planting pit with the planting soils mix (planting soil mix: 3 parts amended (775) 588-5929 topsoil, 1 part organic amendment, and slow release fertilizer tablets Facsimile (775) 588-1559 per manufacturer recommendations). 3. Plant Selection: Choose plant and tree species that are adapted to W W W . D E S I G N W O R K S H O P . C O M the local environmental conditions to reduce the need for intensive and ongoing fertilizer applications. Minimize large expanses of lawn that require continual fertilization. 4. Fertilizer: Utilize slow release fertilizer consisting of 50 percent water-insoluble nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in the following composition: 20 percent nitrogen, 10 percent phosphorous, and 10 percent potassium, by weight. If the soil test indicates that adequate US Highway 50 levels of phosphorus are available, consider using a phosphorus-free fertilizer. 5. Application Process: Trees and shrub planting should be monitored for adequate growth, but will not likely need additional fertilization from what is required at the planting stage. Apply fertilizer to lawn areas two times each year. Apply ½ to ¾ pounds of nitrogen for every 1000 square feet of lawn. Fertilizer should be applied in early June and late Project B Area August. The late summer application should be done when the average daily temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit (average daily temperature is determined by adding the daily high and low temperatures and dividing by 2). 6. Irrigation: Following fertilizer application, the irrigation system should be immediately turned on to wash the fertilizer off the leaves and into B the root zone of the lawn. Watering two or three times following fertilizer application avoids carrying the fertilizer away in surface runoff. Turn irrigation system on for ten to fifteen minutes then one to two hours off works well with many soils, then repeat the cycle. Do not Property Boundary allow water to pond while irrigating.

IRRIGATION NOTE A combination of native, drought resistant plant material and an efficient irrigation system is proposed for Project 3. An automatic controller with multiple functions will be used to operate different pressure zones and moderate the rates of application of water on a zone by zone basis. Rain sensors will monitor the operation of the system and shut it off during natural rain events. Drip irrigators around trees, shrubs, and perennials will be used to eliminate evaporation loses. Drip irrigators will reduce overall water consumption in these areas by 50-70%. Unlike sprinklers, drip irrigation is practically unaffected by wind conditions, nor is it affected by soil surface conditions. Also, plant species have been grouped with similar water requirements on common zones to match precipitation heads and emitters. Lawn areas use low-volume, low angle sprinklers for irrigation.

LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT PLAN 1. All planted areas to be mulched with wood chips or pine duff. No C rock mulches to be used along Highway 50. Areas along Cedar will have rock mulch to meet BMPs requirements. 2. Allow tree volunteers in natural areas to mature and if appropriate be removed at a later date. 3. Plant trees in various sizes and over plant the small sized plants. 4. Plants will be grouped in logical arrangements to ensure that plant PROJECT A PROJECT B water requirements are met. 5. Plants from TRPA's Site Type Recommended Species List.

TREE REMOVAL NOTES 1. Contractor shall conform with Chapter 71 of the TRPA code of ordinance when removing any tree on site.
