“I am so proud of the illustrious performance of all my children,” PM Simpson Miller says of athletes

Prime Minister Simpson Miller says all ’s athletes who competed in the just concluded IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, distinguished themselves and contributed valiantly to the country’s illustrious performance winning 12 medals with an all-time high of seven gold, TWO silver and three bronze. “I am so proud of the illustrious performance of all my children during the entire championship,” the Prime Minister and Minister of Sport said in a statement on Sunday, August 30. She noted that in the journey for greater national development, the entire nation can take inspiration from the examples of hard work, discipline, teamwork and determination demonstrated yet again by Jamaica’s athletes.

The Prime Minister congratulated the women 4x400 metres gold medal-winning relay team of Stephanie McPherson, , Christine Day and Novlene Williams-Mills for a superb victory on the final day, noting that the fourth leg run by Novlene Williams Mills showed great heart and determination.

“I am also particularly proud of our men 4x400 team of Peter Mathews, Ricardo Chambers, Rusheen McDonald and the courageous and always dependable Javon Francis, who gave their all as once again, they did their national duty of representing Jamaica proudly and with total commitment,” Prime Minister Simpson Miller said.

“I give God thanks that Jamaica continues to be blessed with the greatest athletics tradition in the world supported by our supremely talented world class athletes, great coaches and other support staff, committed and competent sporting administrators and a supportive public,” the Prime Minister added.
