To this end, we are proud to be a STEAM school where cutting edge technology, an exciting Arts curriculum and strong teaching all help our students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to enable them to fulfil their ambitions and make their mark on the world. Our STEAM curriculum, supported by strong links with our University and business ensures our students are well prepared to thrive in an increasingly competitive, and ever changing job market. 7 “Pupils are safe, secure and happy. They know they can rely on staff for help at any time of the day.” Ofsted 2017 PROJECT BASED LEARNING Throughout their time at UAE every student engages in a number of projects in collaboration with others. In these projects the group is presented with a real world problem, often from one of our business and industry partners. The students then have to apply their prior learning, and newly researched knowledge, along with creativity, craft and teamwork skills to develop a solution. By putting their learning into context and giving students an authentic experience where they are responsible for the outcomes we find students are more engaged and better prepared for the world of work. 8 CURRICULUM KEY STAGE 3 YEARS 7,8 and 9 Moving on to secondary school is a big step. Cllr Kieron Williams Leader of Southwark Council Camberwell Ward Rt Hon Alok Sharma MP Secretary of State for Business, Cabinet Office Energy and Industrial Strategy Southwark Council BEIS P.O Box 64529 1 Victoria Street London SE1P 5LX London SW1H 0ET Via email [email protected] 6 November 2020 Ref: KW-29 Dear Secretary of State, Support for businesses in London As we head into another national lockdown, we are writing this joint letter as the Leader of Southwark Council, the Cabinet Member for Jobs, Culture & Skills, and the Chairs of the five Business Improvement Districts in our borough, to ask that you expand on the Government’s strategy on engaging and supporting businesses in London. In particular we ask that you give consideration to the following points: Clarity on timing and support for planning: If many of our business are to survive a further period of national lockdown, support to help firms to plan more effectively and proactively for the medium to longer term is essential. While we appreciate the need to respond quickly to changes in circumstances that require a fast-paced implementation of Covid-19 restrictions, the manner in which changes are communicated with local authorities and businesses is both destabilising and hampers effective planning for the longer-term. We welcome the most recent extension to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to the end of March 2021, but a lack of clarity on support that is available for ongoing business resilience means that many of our companies are struggling with both the here and now, and the ability to plan effectively for the longer term.
