Community Profile – Ynyswen, Treorchy and Cwmparc Version 5 – will be updated and reviewed next on 29.05.20 Treorchy is a town and electoral ward in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf in the Rhondda Fawr valley. Treorchy is one of the 16 communities that make up the Rhondda. Treorchy is bordered by the villages of Cwmparc and Ynyswen which are included within the profile. The population is 7,694, 4,404 of which are working age. Treorchy has a thriving high street with many shops and cafes and is in the running as one of the 3 Welsh finalists for Highs Street of the Year award. There are 2 large supermarkets and an Treorchy High Street industrial estate providing local employment. There is also a High school with sixth form Cwmparc Community Centre opportunities for young people in the area Cwmparc is a village and district of the community of Treorchy, 0.8 miles from Treorchy. It is more of a residential area, however St Georges Church Hall located in Cwmparc offers a variety of activities for the community, including Yoga, playgroup and history classes. Ynyswen is a village in the community of Treorchy, 0.6 miles north of Treorchy. It consists mostly of housing but has an industrial estate which was once the site of the Burberry’s factory, one shop and the Forest View Medical Centre. Although there are no petrol stations in the Treorchy area, transport is relatively good throughout the valley. However, there is no Sunday bus service in Cwmparc. Treorchy has a large population of young people and although there are opportunities to engage with sport activities it is evident that there are fewer affordable activities for young women to engage in. -

Community Profile – Cymmer & Croeserw Version 5 – will be updated and reviewed next on 29.05.20 The Villages of Cymmer, Croeserw, Abercregan, Dyffryn Rhondda and Cynonville make up the rural ward of Cymmer. They are situated in the east of the Afan Valley, the villages lying approximately 9 miles from the Towns of Port Talbot and Neath. The area is closer to Maesteg and people often travel there for shopping and services as it is easier to get to than Neath or Port Talbot. The villages are located very close to each other – about three quarters of a mile. The local landscape is wooded hills and some farmland. This breaks down as 0 – 17 20.8%, 18 - 64 59.5%, 65 and above 19.7%. 988 working age people are economically inactive, this figure, 47.8% been higher than both the NPT average, (29.4%) and Wales (23.0%). 9.7% of the population holds qualifications of Level 4 and above, with the NPT average been 20.8% and Wales as a whole 29.7%. 36.2% of housing is socially rented which is significantly higher than the welsh average of 16.5%. The majority of NPTCBC run facilities are now run and managed by the community. The local comprehensive school closed in July 2019 this has had a devastating impact on the whole valley. Natural Resources Wales manages the forestry in areas of the ward that houses lots of walking and cycling trails. -

COMFORTDELGRO TO EXPAND FOOTPRINT TO WALES 7 February 2018 – ComfortDelGro Corporation Limited is expanding its bus and coach operations in the United Kingdom (UK) through the acquisition of New Adventure Travel Limited (NAT Group), one of the leading bus and coach operators in South Wales. Whilst the Group already has significant inter-city express and executive coach operations outside London, this £13.4 million (S$25.0 million) acquisition will be the Group’s first expansion of its bus operations outside of London, where its wholly-owned subsidiary, Metroline Limited, is the second largest public scheduled bus operator with a fleet of 1,700 vehicles. ComfortDelGro Managing Director/Group CEO, Mr Yang Ban Seng, said: “We have been operating bus and coach services across the UK and Ireland for close to two decades. With this addition of NAT Group, we are broadening our footprint into Wales, and expanding the bus operations outside of London which has always been our strategic intent. “We look forward to serving the people of South Wales and introducing new and improved services to meet their travel needs,” he said.
