Comprehension

This section contains a one page printable comprehension practice for each reading selection. The chart below is the key to the types of questions for the comprehension questions. The section also contains Constructed response exercises. The Constructed response pages that are chapter specific list the chapters they should be used with. If chapter numbers are not listed the questions are flexible and may be used at different points in the story.

If you wish to assign one chapter for reading, you can alternate giving Constructed response questions on odd number days [as long as the chapters on the Constructed response questions are not listed otherwise], and comprehension quizzes on even numbered days.

Chapters 1-2 ~ Constructed Response – Summarizing (Answer Key)

List 6 events that happened in Chapters 1-2 in the order that they happened.

•Chase wakes up in the hospital. He doesn't recognize his own family members who are in the room with 1 him.

•Dr. Cooperman says he has acute retrograde amnesia from falling off the 2 roof of his home and hitting his head.

•When the doctor asks Chase to dig into his memories, the only person Chase can see is a young blonde girl dressed in church clothes in a garden. He 3 doesn't know who she is.

•Chase is released from the hospital. He goes home with his mother and older brother, Johnny. When they go inside their home, his father is there with his new wife, Corinne, and his half-sister, Helene. Chase gets the impression that 4 they don't like him. He wonders why his half-sister cringes.

•The story moves to Shoshanna Weber. She is texting her twin brother, Joel, who has gone to the Melton Prep and Musical Conservatory in New Britain, Connecticut. The reader learns from Shoshanna that Joel was forced to go to 5 a new school because Chase bullies and terrorizes him.

•Shoshanna goes to Heaven on Ice, a yogurt shop. It is a tradition to go the day before school starts back. She sees Chase who gives her a smile. Soshanna can't believe the 'jerk' would smile at her, so she dumps her yogurt 6 over his head.
