Woodland, churches, easy field paths, hills, views In Brief This is a gorgeous walk with lovely views, shady woodland and an interesting visit to two churches, one twelfth-century the other unique and hidden in the depths of the forest. There some nettles on one narrow path making shorts inadvisable. Hiking boots are best for this walk, although in dry conditions you could wear trainers or solid shoes. The undergrowth may be very high on at least one stretch, which could be a hazard for children. There are only three stiles in the last section and they allow a gap for your dog.     Hampshire County Council (HCC) Meon Valley Division County Councillor Roger Huxstep’s Annual Report 2016-17 February last year saw the launch of “Your Hampshire” (sign into www.hants.gov.uk/news/yourhampshire ) a substitute for the tri-annual ‘Hampshire Now’; keeping residents connected to the County Council’s latest news and activities. It is another way of maximising the opportunities provided by technology to deliver up to date information more quickly and easily to residents, supporting the digital strategy and at the same time making significant savings. Last May, the council welcomed Councillor Keith Chapman as our incoming Chairman. He is a keen champion of the County Music Service and has arranged many music events. The Youth Orchestra had an amazing tour of Hungary, even earning praise from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. And, the Hampshire Music Education Hub made it to the last 7 of organisations recognised for success by the Music Education Council (MEC), for their Music Education Awards 2016 from an entry of 123 hubs across the country. Three new Directors have been appointed in the last year namely Mr Graham Allen now Director of Adults’ Health and Care; Mr Steve Crocker now Director of Children’s Services and Dr Sallie Bacon as Director of Public Health. All Directors have tough roles but we all know these officer appointments are critical for the services this County offers the people of Hampshire. You will know a number of Hampshire MPs have now joined the Government or promoted to higher ministerial rank; so, Hampshire is well represented in the Government.

    Alresford and District Neighbourhood Watch Association NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICING TEAM IN ALRESFORD AN INTRODUCTION FROM OUR NEW SERGEANT, BETHAN WOOD As a new Sergeant, new to the area, and new to the role of Neighbourhood Policing, I was grateful that the first community representatives I got to meet were from one of the two Neighbourhood Watch Teams that we work in conjunction with here in Winchester Rural District. It must have been a productive meeting as I then agreed to explain in the local magazine who we are and what we do! SO, WHO ARE WE? The Winchester Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) is part of Winchester District. We also have NPTs based in Winchester City and Bishops Waltham. We work closely together as a district to have the right people, in the right place, and at the right time. The team at Alresford are co- located at the Fire Station and cover a large area that includes Shawford, Sutton Scotney, Micheldever, Otterbourne, Sparsholt, Kingsworthy, Itchen Abbas, Northington, Beauworth, Bramdean, Bishops Sutton, New Alresford and Old Alresford – to name just a few. We choose to simplify this by splitting it into three areas, each covered by a PCSO and overseen by myself. The Western and Northern beat areas, are covered by PCSOs Kerry Croutear and Amey Stevens. The Eastern area rather conveniently aligns with the Alresford & District Neighbourhood Watch Association area and is covered by PCSO Rhys Griffiths. WHAT DO WE DO? My team is responsible for many different areas of work including managing risk and vulnerability, engagement, crime prevention, and sign posting to other agencies with whom we work together to keep, you, your families, and our communities safer.
