REF: HT/SAF/tlb Friday 28th May 2021 Dear Parents and Carers I am writing with a final update before the half term break. Year 11 and 13 Today, Year 11 and 13 have had their last formal teaching day in school and have completed their final ‘Just Check’ assessments. We would like to congratulate them on the way they have conducted themselves during this assessment period and for their resilience, positivity and sheer hard work. We will look forward to seeing Year 11 again soon for their Sixth Form Induction events and to say farewell to Year 13 at their leavers’ Lunch. Breaks and Lunchtimes In line with the government systems of control being relaxed and having far fewer students in the building, we will be returning to our usual break and lunchtime slots of 11.00 →11.20am and 1.20 → 1.55pm from Monday 7th June 2021. Year groups will still be zoned in their separate areas and ‘bubbles’ and we will operate one-way systems in areas of school. Year 9 will move into new form rooms in The Quay building to signal their move into the senior part of the school. Uniform The Governors and staff of Newquay Tretherras are proud of the smart appearance of our students and are very appreciative of your support as parents and carers. Ensuring students attend school dressed smartly in their uniform is the foundation for high standards in other aspects of Tretherras life, including a positive work ethic and good conduct in lessons and around school. First impressions do count and by continually reinforcing our high standards of uniform and appearance at Tretherras we aim to prepare our students for their future world of work. Please find attached the NT Uniform Policy which has more detailed guidance on how we will deal with individual uniform matters from next term. We hope that this offers clarity so that students, staff and parents all have complete transparency regarding our policy and any resultant actions. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s Head of Year in the first instance. G7 Summit I have attended a G7 Business and Community Outreach briefing for the G7 Summit led by Devon and Cornwall Police and Cornwall Council. There will be more information released to the public over the coming week, but the key message is that there will be travel disruption, diversions and road closures in the area surrounding Newquay airport. Specific closures will affect our school catchment on the B3276 road between St Columb Minor and Watergate Bay, through to Trevarrion and Tregurrian, St Mawgan and the road from the airport to St Columb Major, although there will be access allowed to Watergate Bay. There will be temporary road closures at various times between the 9th and 13th June and vehicle check points surrounding the airport access roads. School taxis and buses will continue to operate and school transport will be allowed access through the Watergate Bay coast road. There will be re-routing of traffic through St Columb Major and students should be aware that buses are likely to be timetabled to leave 10 minutes earlier. Leaving extra time to travel to school is especially important for Year 10 students who have their PPE assessments in the week commencing 7th June. Thank you for all your support this last half term, which Tretherras staff very much appreciate. Wishing you a very happy half term holiday and I hope you are able to enjoy the sunshine that’s been forecast - at long last! With best wishes. Yours sincerely, MRS S FAIRBAIRN Executive Headteacher Attached: • Uniform Protocols 2021 • G7 Summit: - Newquay Area Map – Access and Diversions (6am 9th June to midnight 13th June) - Information for residents, businesses and visitors .
