Preparing for Adulthood [Careers] This information is specifically for students, teachers, parents/carers and employers. Preparing for Adulthood [Careers] is an important aspect of the intent of our whole school curriculum which ensures our pupils develop the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to live fulfilling lives. Our curriculum design identifies the specific knowledge, skills and attitudes required for our pupils to leave school and led fulfilling lives as adults in the community on each of our destination pathways. Preparing for Adulthood [Careers] focuses on preparing students to follow pathway C: C) In employment, further study or training- preparing students for the next stages in their lives Preparing for Adulthood [Careers] is always taught as part of our stable careers programme and includes;

 Learning from career and labour market information  Addressing the needs of each pupil  Linking curriculum learning to careers  Encounters with employers and employees  Experiences of workplaces  Encounters with further and higher education  Personal guidance

Our pupils have different Preparing for Adulthood [Careers] needs at different stages of their school journey which is reflected in our commitment to equality and diversity.

Good quality information about community based provision including future study options and labour market opportunities are available to every pupil and their parents/carers.

Pupils and their parent/careers have access to support from an informed advisor, such as a Transition Worker, in order to make best use of available information.

Every student has a ‘One Page Profile’ which is updated as part of their annually reviewed EHCP. Target setting, monitoring and assessment of learning is on-going. From Key Stage 3 onwards Transition Plans are created for each pupil which reflect personalised pathway and consideration for the next stage in their education and life.

Support for pupils and their families is provided through the staff team. Further support is available, if required, from our Family Support co-ordinator.

Pupils engage in Preparing for Adulthood [Careers] opportunities through our differentiated skills/knowledge scheme of work. Programme of Study:

Work Experience Placements Students have an opportunity to participate in bespoke work experience placements which are supported by Education Business Partnership who vet employers and businesses against the nine Health and Safety Procurement Standards (HASPS) which form part of an auditable pathway and supports schools and colleges to meet their duty of care and assesses if employers are meeting the regulations. Transition from Sixth Form The aim of this department is to prepare students for life beyond school. Therefore planning for students’ transition is an important aspect of Sixth Form provision. Transition Planning is supported by a multi-agency team including: the young person; their parent and or carers; education staff and independent careers advice, provided by agencies such as the Transition Team. All students and their parents can attend our opportunities fair; this is held biannually at Red Marsh School All students have individualised transition programmes to facilitate and smooth transition to adult life. The Sixth Form department has established excellent links with the adult provision and have a 100% success rate in helping students transition from school into appropriate provision.
