    Student Athlete Handbook for the UBC Okanagan Heat PROUD MEMBER OF: UBC O joined the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (Canada West) in 2011‐12 in basketball and volleyball, 2014‐15 in soccer. Canada West is a conference of the CIS (see below) and is comprised of 17 member institutions across Western Canada (BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba). UBC O was admitted to the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) as a probationary member of the Canada West Conference in 2011‐12, became a full member in June of 2013. The CIS is the national governing body of university sport in Canada and is comprised of 56 members spread over four conferences – Canada West, OUA (Ontario), FESQ (Quebec) and AUS (Atlantic).
