RECOMMENDATIONS:

A. That the City Council designate the unnumbered location situated one sidewalk square northerly of and between numbered locations 72K and 72k as shown on Sheet 19 of Plan D-13788 for the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the installation ofthe name of Shrek at 6931 Hollywood Boulevard.

B. Inform the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce of the Council's action on this matter.

C. That this report be adopted prior to the date of the ceremony on May 20, 2010.

DISCUSSION:

The Walk ofFame Committee ofthe Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has submitted a request for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame the name ofShrek. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 11:30 a.m.

The communicant's request is in accordance with City Council action of October 18, 1978, under Council File No. 78-3949. Following the Council's action of approval, and upon proper application and payment of the required fee, an installation permit can be secured at 201 N. Figueroa Street, 3rd Floor, Counter 23".

The Walk of Fame Committee ofthe Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has approved the below listed name for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame:

SHREK (Category-MOTION PICTURES) Requested star location to be 6931 Hollywood Boulevard, north side of the street at Hollywood & Highland, in front of . The star for SHREK will be placed in the second row and will be situated next to the star of Milt Larson in the second row. The original stars in the first row are THE CARPENTERS (72k) to the east and the star of JON HALL, numbered (72K) to the west. According to sheet 19 Plan D- 13788, the star for SHREK has no number. The dedication ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 20, at 11:30 a.m. Thank you for your cooperation in this request. I look forward to a response from your office soon.

Jeff Briggs calle'd the meeting to· order at 7:49a.m.

1. Gubler was directed to send out copies of the audit to the board with the notice of the board meeting.

~~ . f 2. rrant moved and Schultz seconded to approve Shrek for a Walk of Fame ~tar. Motion passed. ·

3. Considerable discussion centered on the issue of membership and how to structure a salary to hire another salesperson. Staff will bring back recommendations next month.

,4. Discussion covered the proposed PAC bylaws. Diehl pointed out concern that the Chamber officers have time constraints and that we should not burden them with more responsibility. Briggs will take those points in consideration and will make needed changes to the bylaws and present them to the board of directors.

5. Lindgren reported that KTLA's ad sales have stalled for the Christmas Parade. Many advertisers want to know what celebrities have committed before they will consider signing on. This could affect the Parade bottom line and KTLA's willingness to do the Parade again. Staff is working to recruit a couple of prominent stars to help with the ad sales.

6. It was agreed to sign on as a partner for L.A. Inc's Hollywood Visitor Information Center for $5,000, but that Gubler will request for an annual reconsideration of the request from L.A. Inc. rather than a five-year mandate.

7. Gubler was directed to send a second letter to the Mayor, expressing our disappointment at the lack of a response from his office to our request to move the Marathon route

BIOGRAPHY

Not so long, long ago, Shrek was mostly known by the local swamp comnllmity for his thunderous flatulence and unparalleled winning streak in the weed rat-eating contest. But since finding the love of his life----and teaming up with his new best friends, big-mouth chatterbox and swashbuckling but loveable , Shrek has quickly become Hollywood's favorite ogre, His adventures have been documented in the feature "Shrek," which caused a phenomenon on its release in 2001, and went on to become the first ever animated film to win a coveted Academy Award®; its sequel "" broke more records in 2004, becoming the third highest grossing film of all time; and in May 2007, the much anticipated third chapter of the Shrek story, "," will finally be unveiled to fairytale creatures and other fans around the world.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF SHREK'S CHARITABLE WORK

Behind Shrek's ogre looks is a heart of mush. Besides regularly visiting sick children in hospitals and participating in Halloween charity events, Shrek's contributions to the community include the following:

• To celebrate the release of Shrek's first movie in May 2001, free scoops of Sbrek ice cream were given away with donations being made to First Book for each scoop served, helping provide free, new books to children from low-income families. The campaign was a great success with over 3 millions scoops served.

• In January 2003, Shrek also headlined with his friends Variety's Gold Heart pins program to help special needs children in the Greater Kansas City area.

• On the premiere day of "Shrek 2 11 in Italy, the top seller sports newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport" was released in green paper to celebrate the sequel's release and half of the cost of the operation were given to charity.

• Four "Shrek 2" premieres were held in the UK in support of the 11 Make It Big" with the National Autistic Society.
