Founded in 1954, UAA has proudly grown to be the largest post-secondary institution in Alaska. Facilities Alaska Airlines Center • Set to open in September 2014, this multi-use facility features a 5,000 seat arena and is managed by Global Spectrum a professional facility management company and subsidiary of Comcast-Spectacor • The complex has been constructed to fulfill student and faculty demand for athletic and recreation facility use • The Suites inside the Alaska Airlines Center, when complete, will be the first of their kind in the state of Alaska – positioning the AAC as the premier sports facility in Alaska • Additional features include: – 5,000 sq. ft. strength and conditioning complex – Fitness and recreation area for students – Gymnastics training facility – State-of-the-art video scoreboard and sound system – Seawolf Hall of Fame – State-of-the-art sports medicine facilities Facilities Wells Fargo Sports Complex The Wells Fargo Sports Complex, with a capacity of 1,000, received a refurbished playing surface and new bleachers in 2010. The complex has been hosting volleyball, basketball, and gymnastics since 1978 and features training and recreation facilities for students and athletes. It will continue to see significant foot traffic as the facility will be used for many University events and community engagements. Facilities George M. Sullivan Arena The George M. Sullivan Arena, with a capacity of 6,290, continues to be the premier hockey facility in Alaska. “The Sully” hosts UAA hockey as well as the Alaska Aces (ECHL) hockey games. Having undergone its largest improvement project since it opened in 1983, the arena now boasts a new center-hung scoreboard, improved video screens, a wraparound LED display system, improved acoustics, and a new ice machine. The arena also plays host to the annual Kendall Hockey Classic – one of the top pre-season hockey tournaments in the country. Alaska Airlines Center Court Logos Alaska Airlines Center Inner-Bowl LED Ribbon As part of the new Alaska Airlines Center, a new LED Ribbon will be introduced to the marketplace. This digital asset offers an advertiser complete domination of the branding message the consumer receives. For a dedicated amount of time, one brand will be featured on the ribbon, creating an eye-catching advertising asset for thousands to see. The LED Ribbon also offers the ability for a brand to create special promotions or messages that can be delivered at specific times of the game, such as a “Pepsi three-pointer” with an accompanying digital display. This partnership also strengthens the perception of the brand association between parties.
