ACT I. THE SET UP

Ordinary World: Show what it’s like to be your protagonist

Inciting Incident: Show the event that starts the story

Story Parameters: Outline the goals, conflict, and stakes for your protagonist in the story

ACT II. THE PLAN

Protagonist’s Plan: Establish the course of action your protagonist will take to achieve the desired goal

Protagonist Obstacles: Establish the obstacles your protagonist will face as he/she tries to enact her plan (antagonist, secondary opponents, external forces, character flaws)

Ultimate Fail: Show the protagonist fail in a devastating way that makes achieving the desired goal seem impossible

ACT III. THE SHOWDOWN

New Plan: Establish the protagonist’s new plan to make a final, last ditch effort in order to help him/her achieve the desired goal

Storm The Castle/Team Battle: Show the obstacles and endeavors the protagonist’s allies go through to help the protagonist make it to the final battleground

Final Battle: Show the protagonist and the antagonist face off in the final, climactic showdown

Resolution: Show the reader a glimpse at your protagonist’s new way of life
