Volunteers, We Need You

We are in desperate need of Volunteers to help out with our Sunday Cruise Nights. There are cars that need to be parked, the lot needs to be set up, garbage needs to be picked up after the cruise night is over, awards need to be given out, the trailer need to be packed up...... there is a lot to do and there is usually the same 6 to 9 people that do the work every week. Please, come out and sign up to help out a couple of times during the summer. Every little bit helps!!! We are a club that is built on it’s Volunteers. Nobody gets paid for doing this work. The members that go out every year and procure our Sponsors, the people that pick up the T-Shirts and Awards, the people that transport the club trailer, all the people that work at our one paid Charity Car Show a Year, we all do this for FREE. We are a club of Volunteers! This is everyone’s club and we want to keep up our good name. Please get involved in your club! If more people get involved it makes it easier for everyone. See Sharen or call her @708-301-8899 to help out Thank You!! On A Sad Note

We regret to inform you that in the beginning of July we lost one of our active members. Tom Pace has been a member of the Lemont Classic Car Club for the past 4 years. He and his wife Angie were always at the “Little Cruisers” Christmas party, the Wrap party and he was also at the last club event when we went to view the Nagle Collection in Plano, Il, in April. Our Sympathy goes out to Angie and his family. Tom was a wonderful person and will be missed by a lot of people. Page 6

Past Events from this Summer

It has been a very busy summer for the Lemont Classic Car Club. We started out by bringing some of our vehicles out to Strike and Spare II Bowling on May Thursday, May 30th. For a benefit for the Veterans. Eight of our members came out for this event. On June 6th, the owner of Apple Chevy, Mr. John Alfirevich or John Alfie as we know him was chosen the #1 Chevy Dealer in the United States. His picture was on the cover of Time Magazine and he had a party at the Dealership with people from Time Magazine and General Motors in attendance. John asked us to bring out 6 Chevys from the 50's, 60's and early 70's for the occasion. I want to thank Mr. Matt Dallio and his 57 Chevy, Mr. Bob Pobiega and his 55 Chevy, Mr. Gary Karns and his 71 Monte Carlo SS, Mr. Don Falduto and his 61 Corvette, Mr. Dennis Wokurka and his 71 Nova, and Mr. Bob Bugel and his 65 ElCamino for coming out for this special event. Jim Demopoulos set it up with the Orland Park Police Dept. to give us a Police escort into the dealership on Thursday morning. It was quite a seen. We had 2 police cars with their lights flashing in front of the vehicles and 1 on the side and I in the back of the pack. Apple was quite impressed not only with the vehicles but with the police escort too. On Sunday, June 9th, in honor of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day we held a Military Vehicle Night. We had 10 Jeeps and Trucks and 1 Motor Cycle. Our crowd was not very big that night but those of us that were there were quite proud of all of the vehicles and their owners. On June 15th, we hosted our annual trip to The Pointe At kilpatrick. It did rain a little on us but we still managed to bring out 9 vehicles. As usual lunch was very good and awards were out picked by the residents and given to the participants. On Saturday, June 22nd we joined in the Homer Township Annual July 4th Holiday Parade. This was our 9th year in the parade. It was hot and some of us overheated because of a dumb truck driver handing out back packs to the crown and stopping for 5 to 7 minutes at a time. Next year things will be different or we will not be joining the parade and I told them so in a letter I wrote to the Township! Our last 2 events took place on July 13th, first we went to Smith Crossing from 11 to 1:30PM. There were 9 vehicles from LCCC and 2 from Smith Crossing. The weather was extremely hot but we did have some shade and lunch was very good as usual. Then we were asked to come out to Apple Chevy for a USO BBQ for the troops event. We called Apple Chevy and told them we were on our way and they had a whole row of spaces set up for the 8 vehicles that continued on after leaving Smith Crossing. It has been a very busy year for the Lemont Car Club. I personally want to THANK everyone that has participated in any of these events that were sponsored by our club. Our Club Name is so well known because we participate in these local community events. Again, Thank you for volunteering your time!

Continued on page 8 Page 7

for that $20.00. If it should rain on that Sunday, we will reschedule this event for another day probably some time in September. We will also have a lot of door prizes as well as a bigger 50/50 with White Sox Baseball tickets included. We also want to thank some of our sponsors for donating gifts for the Car Show especially Strike and Spare II Bowling Alley, Apple Chevy, Nick’s Barbeque, The “Big R” for letting us extend our hours in their lot and anyone else that I may have forgotten. This has been a bad year for our Sunday Night Cruise with all the rain-outs so we are counting on a large turn-out for this Charity Event. So please, cone out and get involved for this one time only pay car show so we can continue to support the children and their families that use the Lemont Food Pantry. Some of these people don’t even have a Christmas tree much less extra money for gifts for the children. That’s where the Lemont Classic Car Club comes in. When we host this party we are able to give the children gifts, a nice lunch, a chance for one family to win a color TV, a gift certificate for groceries for their Christmas dinner and a happy day out to enjoy the holiday season. So Please cone out and join in the fun. It’s only once a year. We are also in need of a lot of volunteers for the car show. Please call Sharen at 708-301-8899 and volunteer your services for just a couple of hours. We need people to set up the lot, collect the money when the vehicles come in, work the registration desk, help with the 50/50, help pass out the door prizes and help to clean up after the show. Please volunteer your services if you can and get involved with your club. Thank you.

Some Things To Think About For The Last Half Of The Year

In the fall we will be setting up a Garage Tour back to visit Pete Todo’s Museum in Hobart, Indiana. If you have not seen Pete’s Collection of Automobiles, Neon Clock, Bikes, and Memorabilia you need to make sure to join us on this trip. We also were told about a Car Collection that belongs to Mr. Jerry Rich. It is quite a setting and collection and we are going to try and set something up to view his collection. |We also have our “Little Cruisers” Christmas Party on December 7th , from 11 to 3 PM and our Club Christmas Party at Aviana Banquets in Palos Hills on December 8th, from 4 to 8 PM with our club elections, and we will also be having our Kids Wrap Party to wrap all the Christmas presents for the Little cruisers party. So mark your calendars and plan on joining us for these club events.
