Since its discovery as an uncharacterized transmembrane protein in human fibroblasts, TRPA1 has become one of the most intensively studied ion channels. Its function has been linked to regulation of heat and cold perception, mechanosensitivity, hearing, inflam- mation, pain, circadian rhythms, chemoreception, and other processes. Some of these proposed functions remain controversial, while others have gathered considerable experimental support. A truly polymodal ion channel, TRPA1 is activated by various stimuli, including electrophilic chemicals, oxygen, temperature, and mechanical force, yet the molecular mechanism of TRPA1 gating remains obscure. In this review, we discuss recent advances in the understanding of TRPA1 physiology, pharmacology, and molecular function. -

Seven studied Hypericum species (H. barbatum, H. rochelii, H. rumeliacum, H. umbellatum, H. perforatum, H. tetrapterum and H. olympicum) inhibit commercial xanthine oxidase with an IC50 below 100 µg/mL. H. barbatum exerted the most potent inhibitory effect (IC50 = 31.84 ± 6.64 µg/mL), followed closely by H. perforatum (IC50 = 37.12 ± 4.06 µg/mL). Chemistry & Biodiversity, Volume17, Issue1, January 2020, e1900596 Variability of Hypericins and Hyperforin in Hypericum Species from the Sicilian Flora Silvia Lazzara, Alessandra Carrubba, Edoardo Napoli Abstract Within Sicilian flora, the genus Hypericum (Guttiferae) includes 10 native species, the most popular of which is H. perforatum. Hypericum’s most investigated active compounds belong to naphtodianthrones (hypericin, pseudohypericin) and phloroglucinols (hyperforin, adhyperforin), and the commercial value of the drug is graded according to its total hypericin content. Ethnobotanical sources attribute the therapeutic properties recognized for H. perforatum, also to other Hypericum species. However, their smaller distribution inside the territory suggests that an industrial use of such species, when collected from the wild, would result in an unacceptable depletion of their natural stands. This study investigated about the potential pharmacological properties of 48 accessions from six native species of Hypericum, including H. perforatum and five ‘minor’ species, also comparing, when possible, wild and cultivated sources. The variability in the content of active metabolites was remarkably high, and the differences within the species were often comparable to the differences among species. No difference was enlightened between wild and cultivated plants. A carefully planned cultivation of Hypericum seems the best option to achieve high and steady biomass yields, but there is a need for phytochemical studies, aimed to identify for multiplication the genotypes with the highest content of the active metabolites. Příloha časopisu Klubu skalničkářů Praha VÝMĚNA SEMEN INDEX SEMINUM 2014–2015 Příloha časopisu Klubu skalničkářů Praha Klub skalničkářů Praha Vám předkládá Index seminum – seznam semen rostlin pro rok 2014 – 2015 (Index). Tento seznam obsahuje přehled semen, která nabízejí do výměny členové našeho klubu, včetně zahraničních členů. Děkujeme všem, kteří zaslali semena k výměně. Umožnili tak dalším skalničkářům rozšířit si tak sortiment pěstovaných rostlin. Jako každoročně jsme ověřili jména všech Vámi dodaných položek za pomoci dostupné literatury a internetu. Zřetelné zkomoleniny jsme opravili, neověřitelná jména jsme v Indexu ponechali bez úprav a označili znaménkem +. Znovu žádáme dárce, aby si zkontrolovali názvy rostlin, jejichž semena dávají do výměny, aby se chyby v příštích výměnách již neopakovaly. Bohužel i letos se opět vyskytly stejné chyby, nejen pravopisné, ale i věcné, jako v seznamech minulých! Chtěli bychom poděkovat všem, kteří zaslali čitelný seznam darovaných semen v abecedním pořadí. Ještě větší poděkování patří těm, kteří seznam poslali elektronicky. Tato – pro Vás jistě maličkost – nám velmi usnadnila zpracování tohoto seznamu na počítači. Počítačové zpracování také umožňuje doplňovat Index i z opožděných zásilek až do doby předání textu tiskárně k vlastnímu vytištění Indexu. Letošní Index obsahuje ty druhy rostlin, které došly do 20. listopadu, přestože uzávěrka byla do konce října. Pro příští rok bychom opět přivítali zasílání seznamů elektronicky, nejlépe v programu Excel. Řada z Vás tak činí již třetím rokem. Tato „drobnost“ značně ulehčila redakční práce při přípravě Indexu. Jména dárců, resp. jejich čísla podle pořadí jak došly zásilky, jsou již tradičně uvedena za latinským názvem rostliny. Podmínky výměny semen 1. Dárcem se stává ten, který zaslal minimálně 10 druhů semen. -
