Desafortunadamente, debido a compromisos asumidos antes de la definición de la fecha de este congreso, no podré estar presente y disfrutar de su compañía, lo que es una pena. La realización de la 22ma edición del congreso SILAE en Costa Rica representa una oportunidad única de interactuar con investigadores de este país, el cual cuenta con una de las diversidades biológicas más ricas del planeta y a la vez con una amplia tradición de conservación biológica. El 25% del territorio costarricense se encuentra protegido, lo cual es un hermoso ejemplo a seguir!!!. Espero que todos puedan aprovechar esta oportunidad para estrechar los lazos de cooperación con este bello país. Me gustaría aprovechar el marco para felicitar a los organizadores y en especial a la profesora Silvia Quesada, nuestra tesorera de la SILAE, por la organización de este evento. Deseo a todos, un excelente congreso! Suzana Leitao Presidenta SILAE Bienvenidos Benvenuti Bemvindos Welcome Es un placer darles la más cordial bienvenida como participantes al XXII Congreso de la Sociedad Italo Latinoamericana de Etnomedicina Hernán Arguedas Soto y poder dirigirles unas palabras de bienvenida. Es un honor tener como invitados a renombrados investigadores que dictarán Conferencias Plenarias en los cinco ejes temáticos que abarcan el Congreso de la SILAE: Alimentos Funcionales y Nutrición; Etnobotánica/ Etnomedicina/ Antropología; Fitoquímica; Farmacología/Farmacognosia y Fitoterapia / Terapias alternativas. No fue sencillo realizar esta distribución dado que en las investigaciones muchos de los ejes se fusionan para dar origen a trabajos de investigación muy completos, lo que refleja un trabajo interdisciplinario en cada uno de nuestros países. Es importante recordar que este no es un Congreso Internacional tradicional en donde el principal objetivo es la presentación de nuestras investigaciones sino que pertenecemos a una Sociedad, a una gran familia, en la cual apoyarnos para fortalecer nuestra investigación y crear vínculos para realizar trabajos conjuntos, favorecer el crecimiento de nuestros investigadores jóvenes con cursos o pasantías en los distintos laboratorios y la posibilidad de divulgación de nuestras investigaciones. Si aún no pertenecen a la SILAE los insto a conocer todos los beneficios que aporta y a inscribirse en ella. Que este hermoso ambiente propicie muchas discusiones y relaciones amistosas, como base de nuevos proyectos en los distintos campos que abarca esta Sociedad y promueva el desarrollo personal y científico en cada uno de los participantes. Estoy segura que luego de este XXII Congreso de la SILAE, se adquirirá un impulso importante y afianzará su presencia en la región. The use of advanced “omics” tools in food science and nutrition allows investigating topics nowadays that were considered unapproachable few years ago, this trend has generated a new discipline defined for the first time by our group as “Foodomics” [1-3] (“Alimentómica” in Spanish). Safety, quality and bioactivity of foods and food ingredients are investigated in Foodomics through the application and integration of advanced omics technologies, including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and/or metabolomics. The main goals of Foodomics are to improve consumers’ well-being and knowledge [1-3]. A global Foodomics study performed by our group demonstrated the antiproliferative activity of different extracts from rosemary against colon cancer cells [4]. In the present work, we show a step forward in this long investigation in which a complete metabolomics study (combining results from LC-MS and CE-MS platforms) is carried out to corroborate the anti-proliferative effect of one of the main dietary polyphenols that was found in all the active rosemary extracts (i.e., carnosic acid). Moreover, the present work provides additional information on how this polyphenol from rosemary is able to modulate a specific metabolic pathway in the colon cancer cells (i.e., polyamines pathway), providing new evidences at molecular level on the antiproliferative effect of this type of compounds. This is an inventory of the vascular alien flora of Catalonia (northeastern Iberian Peninsula, Spain) updated to 2018, representing 1068 alien taxa in total. 554 (52.0%) out of them are casual and 514 (48.0%) are established. 87 taxa (8.1% of the total number and 16.8 % of those established) show an invasive behaviour. The geographic zone with more alien plants is the most anthropogenic maritime area. However, the differences among regions decrease when the degree of naturalization of taxa increases and the number of invaders is very similar in all sectors. Only 26.2% of the taxa are more or less abundant, while the rest are rare or they have vanished. The alien flora is represented by 115 families, 87 out of them include naturalised species. The most diverse genera are Opuntia (20 taxa), Amaranthus (18 taxa) and Solanum (15 taxa). Most of the alien plants have been introduced since the beginning of the twentieth century (70.7%), with a strong increase since 1970 (50.3% of the total number). Almost two thirds of alien taxa have their origin in Euro-Mediterranean area and America, while 24.6% come from other geographical areas. The taxa originated in cultivation represent 9.5%, whereas spontaneous hybrids only 1.2%. From the temporal point of view, the rate of Euro-Mediterranean taxa shows a progressive reduction parallel to an increase of those of other origins, which have reached 73.2% of introductions during the last 50 years.

Hamdy Botany and Microbiology Department, Faculty of Science, Cairo University, Giza 12613, Egypt; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] Abstract: For the first time, an updated checklist of Acacia, Senegalia and Vachellia species in Egypt is provided, focusing on the exotic species. Taking into consideration the retypification of genus Acacia ratified at the Melbourne International Botanical Congress (IBC, 2011), a process of reclassification has taken place worldwide in recent years. The review of Acacia and its segregates in Egypt became necessary in light of the available information cited in classical works during the last century. In Egypt, various taxa formerly placed in Acacia s.l., have been transferred to Acacia s.s., Acaciella, Senegalia, Parasenegalia and Vachellia. The present study is a contribution towards clarifying the nomenclatural status of all recorded species of Acacia and its segregate genera. This study recorded 144 taxa (125 species and 19 infraspecific taxa). Only 14 taxa (four species and 10 infraspecific taxa) are indigenous to Egypt (included now under Senegalia and Vachellia). The other 130 taxa had been introduced to Egypt during the last century. Out of the 130 taxa, 79 taxa have been recorded in literature. The focus of this study is the remaining 51 exotic taxa that have been traced as living species in Egyptian gardens or as herbarium specimens in Egyptian herbaria. The studied exotic taxa are accommodated under Acacia s.s. (24 taxa), Senegalia (14 taxa) and Vachellia (13 taxa).
