As presented at the annual village meeng held on 14th May 2019:

The Parish and Borough Council elecons have just taken place. Wimbotsham Parish is now part of and Delph ward. As the Parish Council was uncontested no Parish Council elecon took place.

The New Village Hall Working Group connues to meet with the purpose to provide a new village hall facility for Wimbotsham. They have carried out the consultaon stage and all the informaon gleaned has been collated. The stascs are being put together in the form of a brief ready for the next stage of the process which is the Feasibility Study stage. This will focus on viability and opons for a new hall.

We are working with the village hall commiee toward an agreement for the management of the current village hall. This needs to be drawn up in the form of a legal agreement. A new agreement will replace the now out of date trust document which dates back to the early 1980’s.

Some residents have contacted the parish council asking if the speed limit on Lynn Road could be reduced. It is currently at 50mph. We raised this with NCC, but to no avail. It will not be changed. Cllr Brian Long has supported us with our concerns, as has MP Liz Truss

We are also concerned with the safety of the juncon of Lynn Road and the A10 and have requested beer signage for drivers.

Last July the NVHWG and Parish Council ran a successful Cheese and Wine evening in the village hall. We had Andy Moore speaking on the history of Bexwell Airfield and Wimbotsham’s connecon to it during the me of the 2WW. During the evening it was announced that the village hall survey quesonnaires would be delivered to every household in the village.

On 11th November 2018 the village parcipated in Bale’s Over, A Naon’s Tribute, 100 years of Remembrance. This was a beacon lighng ceremony which commemorated and remembered the end of the First World War, 100 years ago and the many millions who were killed or came home dreadfully wounded. There was a big turnout in our village for this event, with over a 100 people joining us on the village green when the beacon was lit and the last post played. All the names of those from the Parish who lost their lives in the war were read out.

4 your Wimbotsham June2019 Following on from the remembrance event, later in November, the Parish Council and the NVHWG hosted a community café drop in event. The results from the Village Hall community survey were displayed for everyone to see. Residents could talk to members of the commiee too and joining us were the Police who met and chaed with residents, LILY who gave advice and informaon on living independently, West Befriending who’s aim is to reduce social isolaon for lonely older people and West Norfolk Deaf Associaon who support the deaf and hard of hearing adults and children to live independent lives. All of these organisaons reported back to me that the event was highly producve for them. They had idenfied people in our community who were in need of further support.

We connue to maintain the village green to a high standard, with regular mowing and maintenance of the trees, benches and village sign. We maintain the street lights in the village and monitor the rights of way in our parish. We also have a duty to provide allotments, which are currently well used and managed by the allotment commiee.

Planning decisions are taken by King’s Lynn & West Norfolk BC. Details of all planning applicaons are given to the Parish Council to review and comment on which we do. This also includes highway and road safety issues.

We have a very informave newsleer which keeps the village informed of what is going on. Every household gets a copy as we hand deliver them.

The informal footpaths named trods are well used in our village. They provide a safe alternave to walking on the road. We have them at the west end of the village off Westway and off Low Road just past the VH. We have just received noficaon from NCC Highways that our funding applicaon to make improvements to these trods has been successful and we will be discussing this tonight aer this meeng.

Please remember you are all welcome to aend any PC meeng. We meet here at 7pm, noces are on our website in the newsleer and on noce boards.

This wasn’t a set meal but buy what we wanted and pay for ourselves.

In March we had a visit from two girls represenng “Driving Miss Daisy”. This is a company that provides transport and help of all kinds to those who need it: from accompanying people to hospital appointments, to taking them shopping or on oungs. They have a range of cars, including wheelchair friendly, and you cannot miss them as they are bright blue and decorated with daisies! We all found the talk very interesng and helpful and the two girls extremely pleasant. None of us would have any hesitaon in using their services in the future.

April is our Annual General Meeng and in May our 53rd Birthday combined with a garden party, for which hopefully the weather will be kind.

Sadly we lost two members at the beginning of the year: Rose Jeary, who had been unable to aend meengs for quite some while, and Marjorie Jeary, who together with her husband, Norman, was a stalwart of the club for many years. (Rose was Norman’s sister-in-law). Although in poor health, Marjorie was always cheerful and had connued to aend meengs up unl a short while ago. Norman is, of course, sll a member. A service for Marjorie was held in Wimbotsham’s Methodist Chapel. A cheque was sent to the Brish Heart Foundaon in her memory.

Update It’s been another busy term here at Wimbotsham and Stow Academy. The children have had some excing school trips to Cadbury’s World and Go Ape which have been thoroughly enjoyed. Friends of Wimbotsham School have raised enough money to purchase some blinds for the outdoor classroom which we hope will mean the children will be able to enjoy their educaon outdoors as much as possible. We finished this term with our very popular Easter egg hunt for all the children and our Easter cake cafe which we raised a fantasc £456! We look forward to the new term and welcoming the nicer weather! Thank you for your support.

NVTEC-EA Road Run Raises £3,500 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance

On Sunday the 7th April, the Naonal Vintage Tractor and Engine Club held their annual Road Run in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance. This wouldn’t be possible without the help from our stewards Richard Perry, Anola Copsey and Peter Thorpe who give up their me free of charge for this great cause. We also need a base to start and finish from and Bryan and Julie Beba kindly allow the free use of their premises each year which is perfect for such an event with plenty of hard standing ground and a grass field to set off from, toilet facilies, a tea and coffee shed and homemade sausage rolls and cake for all which my wife Jayne kindly made.

David Askew and Peter Thorpe organised the route and I must say they done a very good job again this year with some roads I had never been down. Gavin Chapman was first to arrive leaving Lakenheath at 6.30am some 32 miles away in his Mercedes but not taking as long as he thought arriving at 7.30am. This year was the best turn out I have experienced with a total of 49 tractors parcipang. Ken

10 your Wimbotsham June2019 Bailey came all the way from Essex and one gentleman from Lincoln plus Michael Hart who wished he had got mud guards on by the end of the day. We le at 10.30am aer a quick safety speech by Peter Thorpe and headed down many country lanes. Our first pit stop was at B, W Mack Machinery Ltd on Barroway Drove, they are the main agents for CLAAS tractors, Baler’s and Green Harvest equipment so this was quite fing for a stop off and thanks to them for their help. Delicious lunch at The Chequers We then connued on, heading towards the chequer’s pub at Wimbotsham near where we were served a delicious Sunday lunch.

By the me we had stopped for lunch, it had started to rain but the weather forecast implied it was only to be a shower, but when we le the pub, it was chucking it down! We made the decision to cut about 4 miles off the route but unfortunately, in the rush of things, I forgot to menon the detour to our Stewards Richard and Anola who were stood waing at their staon that we had diverted for 45 minutes. I felt terrible and couldn’t apologies enough, I’m sure it will be something we can laugh about for many years.

Our final stop was at the new Village Hall, we were very well looked aer with some tea, coffee and cake. Due to the weather, we took this me to thank all who had aended and announce the winner of who raised the most donaons. This year it was Jim Smart who raised an incredible £745.00. On arrival back at Bryans at 4.30pm, we presented Jim with a glass trophy sponsored by Supreme Windows Ltd. To raise such an exceponal amount of money is a great achievement. On behalf of the club, I thank you all for your support, dedicaon and donaons, you all never cease to amaze me and I’m sure the EAAA will be extremely grateful for your parcipaon and fundraising. Thank you all.

15 your Wimbotsham June2019 News from St Mary’s Church Wimbotsham we meet on the 4th Sunday of the month at 10.30am please feel free to join us, we’d love to see you

Dear reader, Aer four years, we have finally le the city and moved to rural Norfolk. We have now been here for more than three months. What a change! And how pleasant too!

The warmth of the Norfolk welcome has been overwhelming. I am oen asked, ‘How are you seling in?’ or ‘How do you like it here?’ Some of the people behind these quesons are simply curious, others are concerned to know more about our work and wellbeing. Whatever the conversaon, I always answer in the posive. And how can I not?

Yes, the amenies and conveniences of the city are enviable. The professional opportunies are many and varied, and the intellectual atmosphere can oen be smulang and engaging. Sll, I have to confess that I do not miss the relentless pace of city life or the over-busyness of ministering in a city church. Norfolk's clean air is delighul, its wildlife interesng and its simplicity of life aracve. Now I have me to admire the beauty all around me and oen pause to feel the wind blowing on my face, gaze at every sunrise and sunset, follow every cloud in the sky and admire every flower that blooms and every leaf that fades. Is it not amazing to recognise the order, arstry, creavity, power and wisdom behind all of nature?

Of course, my fascinaon with nature and its mystery is not new or unique. An ancient poet, mesmerised by this same beauty and mystery, wrote thus:

“The heav'ns God's glory do declare, the skies his hand-works teach: Day uers speech to day, and night to night does knowledge teach” - Psalm 19:1-2

Affeconately yours, DK
