Huangshan Wang Wusheng captures the mysterious sense of infinity of these iconic mountains in Huangshan, the Yellow Mountain, Anhui, which inspired most glorious Chinese painters. Wang Wusheng says: "These mountains are not mountains, they are the mountains of my mind, they are Qi, black, grey and white balanced to be energy". Wang Wusheng lived 30 years in Japan, coming back to shoot his pictures in China, dedicated to his one life's sole work, Celestial Realm. Born in 1945 in Wuhu city Anhui Province, China, Wang Wusheng graduated in Physics at Anhui Normal University and in Arts at Tokyo Arts University. He has worked as a journal photographer of the Anhui Newsphoto and Pictorial. He began shooting Hunagshan in 1974. His photographs are represented in numerous public and private collections, including Friedrich Christian Flick Collection in Berlin, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, National Art Museum of China in Beijing, Shanghai Art Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Robert Klein Gallery in Boston, Kunsthalle Krems in Austria, and in Russia, United States, Ukraine. 汪蕪生 《天域黃山》 黃山位於安徽，汪蕪生跟很多中國水墨畫家同樣受到黃山宏偉的景觀所感動，捕捉她 無窮神秘的一面。對於黃山，汪蕪生說： 「這些不是山，她們是氣；由黑、白、灰平 衡這道力量。」 汪蕪生在日本居住了三十年，回國後便開始拍攝黃山，從此奠定了他 終身的目標，製作《天域黃山》系列。 汪蕪生出生於 1945 年中國安徽省蕪湖市。於安徽師範大學物理學院及東京藝術大學畢 業。他曾是安徽省新聞圖片社的攝影記者。於 1974 開始拍攝黃山。 汪蕪生的作品被德國柏林 Friedrich Christian Flick Collection、維也納藝術史博物館 收藏。共於中國美術館、上海美術館，東京都攝影美術館、華盛頓沙可美術館、奧地 利克雷姆斯美術館及俄羅斯、紐約、烏克蘭展出。 La Galerie - 74 Hollywood Road, Central, Hong Kong - www.lagalerie.hk [email protected] About Wang Wusheng Wang Wusheng was born in 1945 in the city of Wuhu in China’s Anhui Province and was graduated from Anhui University’s School of Physics. Landscape Aesthetics in Photography will present Wang Wusheng’s photography of Mount Huangshan, also known as Yellow Mountain, to reflect the renowned Chinese landscape painting aesthetic and its influence. New Landscape Photography includes the works of Hong Lei, Lin Ran, Lu Yanpeng, Shao Wenhuan, Taca Sui, Xiao Xuan’an, Yan Changjiang, Yang Yongliang, Yao Lu, Zeng Han, Gao Hui, and Feng Yan, who express their thoughts on the role of mountains in society.

Landscape Aesthetics in Photography will present Wang Wusheng’s photography of Mount Huangshan, also known as Yellow Mountain, to reflect the renowned Chinese landscape painting aesthetic and its influence. While some research has been made on post-1949 photography, the photographic production of the pre-1949 period has not been sufficiently explored. Focusing on the years of the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-45), this thesis aims at addressing this gap in the literature and at providing an analysis of how the Chinese Communist Party exploited photography for propaganda purposes during the war.
