"On Thursday week the late Miss Matilda Johns, 5 Breakwater-road, Bude, was buried at West Putford Churchyard. Deceased, who was 91 years of age, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johns, who many years ago lived at Vole house, West Putford. The Rector (Rev. J. Williams) officiated. The hymns sung were "For ever with the Lord," "Jesu, lover of my soul," "Peace, perfect peace," and the Hune Dimittis with Mrs. Williams presiding at the organ. The mourners were Mr. and Mrs. G. Moore (sister and brother-in-law), Mesdames Fairchild, Shepherd, Heal, Ash, Bude (nephews), Miss M.A. Walter, Bude (cousin). The bearers were Messrs. J. and C. Johns (Bude), A. and R. Johns (Hartland), G. Bond (Frithelstock), and J. Heard (Bude). Amongst the friends in the church were Mr. H. O. Walter, Mr. C. Cobbledick, Mrs. P. J. Walter, and Mrs. W. Guy. There were several floral tributes."
