Union County retains the top spot in an overall ranking based on an average rank of women’s representation on local councils, mayoralties, and commissionerships. Mercer, which shared the top rank with Union in 2020, dropped to fourth place in the overall rankings, while continuing to lead New Jersey in women’s representation on town councils. Union also leads the state in women’s share of mayoralties and county commissionerships. The state continues to see incremental progress in women’s overall representation in these offices. Women gained eight mayoralties between 2020 and 2021, an identical change as 2019 to 2020, while women gained two seats on county commissions, one more than in the previous report card. As for seats on city councils and similar offices, women gained just 15 seats since the last time CAWP compiled this data; CAWP’s 2020 New Jersey County Report Card showed a gain of 68 council seats.

You now have an opportunity to assist your fellow Veteran and or surviving spouses, make the most of it. Pottawattamie County Veterans are one of our counties most valuable assets. No one has done more for this county than our county Veterans. Pottawattamie County and Iowa has been on the forefront of every War, Conflict, and Skirmish that this Nation has encountered. In order to show its appreciation for the sacrifices that the Veteran/Dependents have made, in 1874 the State of Iowa established a Veteran Assistance Program. In 1927, the Veteran Assistance Program was renamed the Iowa Bonus Board. Through the efforts of the Bonus Board, the Iowa State Association of County Commission of Veteran Affairs was organized in 1937. The sole purpose of this association is to see that Veterans should not be in want by insuring that adequate aid is provided for the Veteran/Dependent in times of need. You are now a part of this rich heritage as a member of the Pottawattamie County Commission of Veteran Affairs. Again, welcome and thank you. Under Chapter 7 of the Kentucky Revised Statutes, the Commission constitutes the administrative office for the Kentucky General Assembly. Its director serves as chief administrative officer of the legislature when it is not in session. County Commissioners: Powers and Duties Virginia “Ginger” Delegal In Florida, except when otherwise provided by county charter, the governing body of each county 1 is a board of county commissioners, composed of either five or seven members. P85F BUDGETING AND SPENDING COUNTY FUNDS A budget system has been established for the control of the finances of the boards of county 2 commissioners across the state.P86F P The budget controls the levy of taxes and the expenditure of money for all county purposes on an annual basis, and it is unlawful for the county commission to expend or contract 3 for expenditures in any fiscal year for more than the amount budgeted.P87F P The county budget is to be prepared, summarized, and approved by the board of county commissioners of each county and it must be balanced—that is, the total of the estimated receipts (monies to be received by the county), including balances brought forward, shall equal the total of the appropriations (monies budgeted to be spent) plus monies held in reserves. The receipts side of the budget can include only 95 percent of anticipated receipts from all sources. The expenditure side of the budget must include itemized appropriations for all expenditures that are authorized by law, contemplated to be made, or incurred for the benefit of the county during the year, and the provision for reserves. Finally, the budget must reflect the estimated 4 division between countywide and non-countywide expenditures and revenues.P88F The annual county budget must make provision for reserves. A reserve for contingencies (i.e., unforeseen circumstances) can be provided but not in an amount that exceeds 10 percent of the budget.
