Kawhia residents concerned about coastal erosion, and the impacts of vehicles on beaches and dunes, are behind a public meeting to discuss forming a local Beachcare group. The meeting comes after a group of the residents contacted Environment Waikato’s Beachcare co- ordinator Sam Stephens to see what the community could do to protect the coast more. “Forming a Beachcare group will allow commun- ity members to be involved in helping to manage coastal erosion and to restore the natural character of the area,” Mr Stephens says. “The community have initiated the meeting and many people want to get involved in protecting the coastline in their area. Angela Sylvia learned how to sew when she was a child and was referred to as ‘the best seven year old dressmaker around’ by her mother Paula Spiers. So it’s no real surprise that when Mrs Spiers decided it was time to step down from fulltime dressmaking that she handed the ‘reins’ over to her daughter. ‘Paula’s Dressmaking’ has been taken over and is now known as ‘Ang’s Alterations and Dress- making’. While Mrs Spiers has moved into ‘semi-retirement’ she is not totally lost to the business. ‘‘Between us, mum and I have 80 years experience in dress- making. Her experience certainly won’t be lost however, as she is still available to give me advice and guidance. ‘‘She has a great loyalty to her clients from over the years, so she is pleased I will be looking after them now.’’ Ms Sylvia says she has always used her dressmaking skills for herself and her family, but this is the first time she will be using TC180510CA04 them to run a business. Tights or pants can be worn underneath as layering pieces. If you are buying tights or pants it is essential to select the right ones for your shape If you chose pants chose the ones that create a visual balance between the upper and lower body to carry the look off successfully. The fashionable skinny leg or slim leg pant style gives the feel of a little more coverage and are more forgiving than a tight while offering a similar look when layered under a tunic - just without the cling. Pants can also look dressier depending on the fabric. Will you be Red Lust? Blue Serenity? When choosing pants for layering, look for an easy fi t. Flat waists that have LILY’S FASHIONS MORPH HAIR no detailing or pockets make for less bulk and a smoother fi nsh under your layers. If you’re fuller in the thighs and smaller up top a triangle shaped tunic can be very fl attering as it will skim the thighs without clinging. Ensure your tunic is long enough to cover your widest part, usually just below your bottom. For shorter ladies the key to tunic wearing is for you to keep the hem a little shorter, approximately crotch length and always wear heels. Ladies with tummies to hide usually have great legs, so slim leg pants that don’t cling are an excellent way to highlight your assets while rectangular shaped tunics provide a fl attering style choice for you (avoid bulky fabrics). Dark pants and tights will slim your legs and when worn with a matching shoe colour will give you the appearance of longer, leaner legs and an overall slimmer look.
